Gus goes down to Company and Remy tells him that he has Natalia's back and she doesn't need him. Natalia arrives and says that she is back from seeing her son and things are okay. Harley confronts her; she realizes that she didn't come back here by accident, but now they all have to band together to do what's right for Rafe. Later, Harley follows Gus outside. He wishes that she'd told him that she got Natalia fired. She admits that she shouldn't have done that, but their relationship is her 'holy grail' and she doesn't want to risk it. Back inside, Remy tries to convince Natalia to go out with him. She can't, and it's not just because of Rafe, Gus is still in her heart, even if she can't totally admit it.
At juvie, Daisy is climbing the walls when she and Ashlee are trapped in their room under lock down. She has the feeling that something awful has happened and she'll never see Rafe again. Later, Rafe arrives at the vent and tells her that he was in jail. He shows her his bruises. She admits that she was worried about him and wishes she could help. They hold hands through a gap in the vent and smile.
At juvie, in a tense moment, Gus levels his gun on Rafe as he holds a gun on the guard. Harley runs in and shout out that Rafe is his son. Rafe is so shocked that he lets the guard grab the gun from his hands. Gus stands frozen with a dumbfounded look on his face. Rafe is dragged away with a fierce glare in his eyes. Harley approaches Gus but he moves away from her, unable to think of anything to say. Eventually he starts repeating quietly: 'I have a son, I have a son?' How could Natalia not have told him this before? he wonders. Harley puts her arm around him and explains how she found out. Natalia walks in, seeing them there, she worries about how confused Rafe must be. In a panic, she wants to find him, but Gus needs to hear the truth from her mouth first. 'How could you keep my son from me?' She would have told him but she didn't know where he was or what to do. 'If I had known, I wouldn't have left. I would have married you and stayed for you and our child,' he says as Harley looks on uncomfortably. She raised him all alone and did the best she could, but he's had a lot to deal with. Gus wishes that he'd been there. 'What's done is done,' she says. Harley offers to leave them alone and kisses Gus goodbye. Natalia explains that she only came because she wanted to see what his life was like and, when she saw that he was happy with Harley, she didn't want to ruin that. He asks about his son, how old he is, does he like baseball? She gives him a few details and promises to show him all of his report cards and pictures eventually. From her purse, she pulls out a photo of Rafe when he was a day old. She gave him 'Joseph' as a middle name, in honor of Gus' father. He is still in shock about all of this. Sitting down, he imagines that Rafe must hate him. Natalia hopes that Gus doesn't hate her. 'I could never hate you,' he says, embracing her. Tears fill her eyes as he walks into the corridor with the photo, pausing for a moment before he goes on.
In juvie, Ashlee and Daisy are cleaning up their room. Daisy starts teasing her for kissing Coop and Ashlee teases her for her relationship with 'vent boy.' They hear a commotion outside and move toward the door but a guard shuts them in. Later, Rafe comes to the vent and tells Daisy that he has bad news. She promises him that things could be worse. The only good thing about this place for him is her. The guard soon arrives and tells Rafe that he'll soon be looking at a real jail cell. He takes him away. Harley arrives to say goodbye. They hug and then sit down. Harley promises her daughter that she and Gus always get through their problems, but gives no further explanation. Meanwhile, Rafe has been sent down to a holding cell. Gus walks in and their eyes meet.
At juvie, Daisy smiles as she finds a piece of chocolate wrapped in a note from Rafe. She goes back into her room and sits by the vent. Rafe is waiting for her on the other side. She tells him to be careful about stealing things from guards and not do anything stupid. 'Like what? Steal something better for you?' Meanwhile, a guard listens in only a few feet away. Later, Harley arrives for a visit in the common room. She hopes that life is getting easier for her daughter in there. Daisy can see that there is obviously something bothering her. Harley doesn't really explain and Daisy becomes distracted hen she sees Rafe wandering around the room. She takes her mother off to look at her art project. The guard finds Rafe alone and throws him against the wall for stealing from him. 'That cop isn't here to protect you this time,' he says. As he threatens and taunts Rafe, making disrespectful remarks about his mother, Rafe becomes outraged and wrestles with him, tearing his gun from its holster. As the guard backs against the wall, Gus walks in and pulls his gun. As Rafe turns to him and levels his gun at him, Harley arrives: 'Don't! He's your son!'
Natalia arrives at juvie and finds her son sweeping up. His counselor has informed her about all of the problems that he's been having. She tells him that she's got Mel on their side and pulls off his hat, finding a cut on his head and badgering him about his problems. After sending him back to his duties, she's stopped in the hallways when Daisy finds her. 'Did you come to see me?' she asks, startled to see her there. Natalia tells her that she is there just to see her and assures her that her parents are fine with it. Daisy admits that she feels bad for getting her to move to Springfield but Natalia says that there were other reasons for her coming. Daisy feels like she's made a mess of things for everyone. 'It is, but we're dealing,' Natalia says as Harley walks in, unenthusiastic to see the pair of them together. Daisy tells her mother that they were just talking but Harley sends her to her room. She wants an answer as to why Natalia is there. As she fumbles for a reply, but, Harley abruptly fires her. Natalia tells her that she needs the job; she knows that this is really about Gus and it's not right. Harley lays into her, asking her why she has letters from Gus in her car and demanding to know why she is really in the town. 'You came here for Gus!' she says sure of herself. Natalia walks away, unwilling to explain. Harley asks to see her daughter again but visiting hours are over so they send her away.
At The Beacon, Coop goes knocking on Ava's door. She lets him in, surprisingly glammed up for a working dinner. She tells him that everyone in marketing is 'psyched' about his ideas. They go down to CO2 and she is already suggesting that he stop teaching and come to work for her full time. He leaves her alone for a moment. Across the street, Alexandra points Ava put and tells Cyrus that she is getting too powerful in the company and the only reason that she is there at all is because of her looks. As Alex walks off, Cyrus saunters over and introduces himself to Ava. Later, when Ava can't find her PDA, Coop mocks her for being a slave to technology. Daisy interrupts their conversation when she calls Coop and tells him that Ashlee is nervous about her meeting. Coop decides that he'd better go over and help. Ava knows that this is really why he likes working at juvie: Ashlee is clearly in love with him. He insists that he is only friends with Ashlee and runs off. When he gets to juvie, he finds that Doris never showed up for her daughter and the counsellor talks to Ashlee about needing to have a 'support system' in place. 'That's me,' he announces as Ashlee glows at his presence. After talking her up for the counselor, she leaves impressed at Ashlee's progress. Ashlee gives Coop a hug and looks for words to express her gratitude. Staring into his eyes, she kisses him. He doesn't know how to react and a guard quickly pulls her away to the common room. Meanwhile, Daisy talks to Rafe through the window, trying to get information from him about why he is there. She writes him a note and slips it out. It says 'I'm on your side.' He slips her an answer: 'I'm glad.' She smiles.
Natalia is at CO2 calling Remy about getting a lawyer. Gus overhears and offers his services. The more he offers help, the more she tells him to back off. It's sweet of him to be concerned but she can look after herself. He gives her Mel's card but she's concerned about confidentiality. Gus admits that he still cares about her, but he won't go trying to ply information out of Mel. Harley arrives and asks them what's going on. Gus explains that Natalia isn't letting him help her with her problems. He leaves the women alone and Harley asks her if she wants to talk. Natalia doesn't want to get her any more involved. 'We're friends right? Unless one friend is trying to steal the other friend's husband,' Harley says with some, not so subtle, hostility. Natalia tells her that she and 'Nick' were a lifetime ago. Holding the letters in her hand, she asks Natalia why she keeps pulling Gus back into her orbit. Natalia points out that she keeps pushing him back and has moved on since then. Harley wonders why she moved from Chicago then. Natalia explains that she did something when she was younger that came back to haunt her, but she doesn't feel like she has to explain her personal life. Meanwhile, Gus talks to Rafe for a moment at juvie. He's as un-talkative as usual and is sent off to his room. He reminds Gus of someone... Gus returns to the women and says that he has everything figured out: It must be her old boss that's the problem. As he offers help and Natalia keeps telling him she doesn't need it, Harley walks over to her father and tells him that Natalia's using Gus as her 'protector'. Maybe he should find another waitress: It's time for Natalia to find another town, she says.
Billy and Gus are at juvie. Billy's come to visit his granddaughter Daisy, but he's glad that he ran into Gus. He thinks that his son needs more time with his daughter. Gus can respect that, he knows that he's not her father; he's just trying to be a father figure. Suddenly, Rafe has his face thrown against the wire partition behind them. Rafe fights with the guard until he's pushed into the common area and almost runs into Gus. Billy recognizes him as the kid that cut his brother. After Rafe is taken away, Gus hands the guard his card and tells him to give it to the kid.
At Company, Natalia stares at a picture of her son before Remy bounces in. He asks her if she's okay, but she just jokes with him and doesn't want to talk about her problems. He grabs her into a kiss. 'You don't know what you're getting yourself into,' she says. They break apart as Josh arrives searching for Cassie. Remy sits with Natalia and eats a sandwich. He asks her if there was something wrong with the kiss. She's awkward and sneaks out when Remy has a word with Josh. As Josh walks out, Remy spots Natalia rushing off and follows behind. She goes over to juvie to see Rafe as Remy watches from a distance. Mother and son sit down and she informs him that she has gotten him a lawyer. They will be happy here in Springfield if they give it a chance, she says, trying to be optimistic. He's quiet and says little. The guard breaks them up and tells them that the visit is over. As she walks away, Remy jumps out. She's annoyed that he followed her. He asks her about Rafe's father. She claims that he's just a selfish jerk in Chicago. She doesn't want any pity and he needs to back off and stay out of this. Going to the desk, she asks to talk to her son again for just one second. As the guard refuses, Rafe comes out and he and the guard begin to fight. The guard wrestles him away but Natalia protests that she just wants to give him his hat and say goodbye. Gus arrives to return Daisy. Natalia spots him, becomes uncomfortable and quickly rushes out. Remy has a good guess about what all of this adds up to.
