Rafe arrived in Springfield soon after his mother. After mugging Josh, he was placed in juvenile detention where he came in contact with Daisy and started to play a significant role in the resurgence of Gus' past. His father sought to get closer to him and was drawn further into the life of his mother. Although he and Daisy began a romance while in juvie, they did not know each other's identities. When he was released, he went to live with Gus and Harley and was shocked to find Daisy there. Although they kept their relationship hidden, it soon was soon revealed. When their parents tried to keep them apart, they ran away together. When he collapsed and almost died, it was revealed that he was diabetic. Around this time he began living with his new-found grandfather Alan, who gladly took him under his wing to teach him the Spaulding way. When Gus finally reunited with Natalia, Rafe had mixed feelings about it. Gus moved into the mansion with them and tried to be a family but he still resisted. Meanwhile, Daisy got pregnant and promptly had an abortion. When he found out, he was outraged and pushed her away. Though they never really reunited, they often came close. During that time, he became closer to his grandfather during his fall from power. When Gus died, Rafe felt robbed of everything that he gained and started to fall back into his old patterns. When he discovered that someone was being tried for running Gus down, he went to the courthouse and made a scene. When the DA's office began investigating Gus for corruption, he went to the court house and shot Jeffrey O'Neill. Since then, he has gone into hiding with Harley.
