New Perspective

Wednesday, July 11 2007

Natalia and Alan arrive at the lake house and give Rafe something to drink. Alan calls an ambulance. Moments later, they are at the hospital and the rest of the family (and Remy) arrives. Gus and Natalia go to their son's bedside. He wishes that he wouldn't have taken off like that. Outside, Dylan and Harley check on their daughter. Even though she was bad, at least she was smart and did the right thing. Things could easily have been a lot worse. They let her go in and see Rafe. Standing in the corridor, Gus and Natalia stay to one side of the room, staring across at Dylan and Harley at the other end.

Harley is Obnoxious and Overbearing

Friday, July 06 2007

Harley is telling Gus that she caught her daughter and his son together. He isn't following any of this and Harley complicates things by laying out more accusations against Rafe and insisting that she is just trying to protect her child. Gus seems more worried about where his son has disappeared to. He and Harley tell Daisy to stay in the house and then they go out searching. Harley breaks the news that Daisy thinks that she's in love with Rafe. Gus seems to take it in stride as they go over to Natalia's and tell her that Harley caught Daisy and Rafe together and now he has run off. Natalia wants Rafe home with her. She has to go to work so she walks them out and Gus returns home. Alone, he asks Daisy what's been going on. She knows that this has been weird, but she doesn't need Harley's protection: Rafe is a good guy. Gus would like to know what his son is really like; she seems to know him better than he does. Daisy tells him that his son is brave and protected her in juvie. She also tells him that she is the one who took Harley's money and Rafe just took the abuse from Harley when she attacked him for him. Gus tells her that she must realize that she and his son can't have a future; she needs to leave him alone. She doesn't feel like she can do that. Gus reminds her that Rafe can't live there anymore; they are step brother and sister. It’s just a crush and she's had those before, even on him. Harley calls and says that there is a disturbance at the Spaulding house. He leaves her alone and she wonders if anyone could be on their side. She rushes over to see Natalia, the only person who cares about Rafe as much as she does. Natalia tells her blankly that the last thing Rafe needs in his life is her. Her son doesn’t need sex, he needs a scholarship. Daisy is disappointed to hear Natalia sounding just like Harley; she wants Daisy to stay away from her son.

Something to Lose

Tuesday, July 03 2007

Natalia settles into her new apartment when Remy calls to take her dancing. She hides away a photo of Rafe and Gus in a drawer. A knock comes to the door. It's Rafe. He's surprised to see her dressed up for a date and isn't happy that she's going out with Remy. Gus comes knocking next when Rafe makes his presence known. He breaks the news that his mother is going out with Remy. Gus doesn't think much of this choice and Rafe backs him up. Natalia tells him that he has no right to say anything about her choice in men; he's not anything to her anymore. 'I'm Rafe's father,' he reminds her. As Rafe leaves, Gus doesn't know how she can manage on her own. She admits that she worries about him all of the time, but he has no right telling her what to do. Remy arrives and takes her off, telling Gus not to wait up. He hangs around the apartment until he hears Remy and Natalia return later. He spots them kissing in the hallway and goes out to the fire escape as they come in. Collapsing on the couch, they kiss some more but she tells him that she needs to stop it there for the night. Remy understands and leaves. Once he's gone, she calls Gus out. He climbs back in and tells her that he was just trying to set up an alarm system. She opens the door for him to leave, 'unless you have some other reason to be here instead of home with your wife.' After he leaves, she goes out to the hall and Remy pops back to give her a good night kiss.

Getting Along

Tuesday, June 26 2007

At Harley's, Gus brings Rafe down to introduce him to Daisy. The teenagers insist that they've never seen each other before, despite being in juvie together. When the adults walk off, Daisy pulls Rafe aside, realizing that they need to put on a false front if they want to continue their romance. As everyone files back in for the family get-together, Harley is about to shut the door when Natalia walks in. She is not amused, especially when Gus gives her a welcome peck on the cheek. Harley sends Natalia to introduce herself around while she quizzes Gus on why his ex is there. He seems rather oblivious to her concerns, which she tries to camouflage.

Later, Natalia is berating Rafe for being too hard on Harley. It's obvious that she's trying hard to be accommodating to him. When talk shifts to Daisy, he continues to feign ignorance. Across the room, Buzz and Billy ask Daisy if she ever ran into Rafe on the inside. She tells them that he must have been in solitary and doesn't seem too smart. In the kitchen, Dylan asks Harley what's up with Natalia. Harley admits that her return into Gus' life is making 'everything different'...but that should be okay, right? Later, she approaches her daughter and tells her that she 'likes' her and is happy that she's home. Daisy ducks out of this fuzzy conversation by taking the garbage out. Rafe follows her and they begin to kiss around the trash cans. Inside, Harley worries to her father about Rafe and makes a faux pas when she says that she'll be happy that her daughter isn't hanging out with 'Rafe and his thug friends.' Natalia happens to be beside her when she says this and Harley starts searching for an explanation. Later, the parents all stand around trying to decide on the living arrangements, relieved that the troubled teens don't like each other. The kids storm through the conversation, arguing and then vanishing upstairs. Natalia and Dylan leave as Gus puts a photo of he and his son up. Alone at Company, Natalia stares at the same photo

Playing it Safe

Monday, June 25 2007

Outside Company, Natalia explains to Gus that Rafe has had diabetes since he was eight. He never told her about it, she had to find out about it when he went into shock and she rushed to the hospital to his side. This changed everything for her. She takes Gus' hand and assures him that Rafe always looks after himself, but it's still scary and dangerous. Gus wishes that she'd at least come to him to help with the bills. 'Eight years ago, what kind of father would you have been?' she asks. Gus admits that he never wanted kids before he met Harley's kids, but if he knew that he had one, things would have been different. Is there anything else that he needs to know? He likes watching baseball but he doesn't play because he's bad, she tells him. That sounds good to Gus, the best times of his life were at the ballpark with his father. Natalia needs to go back to work. He stops her to say sorry for everything, although he knows that's not enough. She admits that she was angry at him for a long time, but she always carried some part of him with her. Harley calls and tells him that Daisy is coming home and she wants to throw a party. 'You're going to have a full house,' Natalia tells him. He has to rush off, but they touch hands together and she asks him to call her if anything happens with their son.

As soon as he's gone, Remy arrives, throwing her a helmet and asking her to take a motorcycle ride with him. 'I'm driving,' she smiles. When they get back from their ride, he's impressed by how well she can ride. 'I've been playing it safe for years,' she says, tossing her hair and pulling him into a kiss. They go inside and she finally agrees to let him take her out. He doesn't want her to think about Gus if they do. She tells him that she can't promise that. Grudgingly, he agrees anyway. Then Gus calls and invites her to Daisy's homecoming and she agrees to come. Turning to Remy, who is already sporting a disappointed grimace, she asks him if they can do it tomorrow night instead. 'Call me when you're done playing safe,' he says as he walks out.

Will This Place Ever be Finished?

Monday, June 18 2007

Natalia isn't receptive to Harley and Gus' offer to have Rafe stay with them. Gus knows that he wasn't there for his son in the past, but now he want to help. Harley knows that it's not easy to be a single parent, but Gus is around now. Natalia understands that he just wants to give Rafe a better school district, but they grew up in a rough neighbourhood and turned out okay. Natalia doesn't want to be part of their lives, but agrees to think about it. When she arrives to pick up Rafe, she asks him if he'd like to stay in Springfield for awhile. He says it's cool, whatever makes her happy is okay. She always wanted to give him a real house...Gus and Harley offered to let him go and live with them, she explains, but she said no. 'Good,' he says. It's a good house in a good district, she says, maybe he should check it out? He's not interested; it's just the two of them and he's ready to go. She tells him to look around because this is the last time he should ever be in a place like this.

When Gus and Harley return home, she admits that she's not comfortable with this, but she knows that he has done everything for her and her family so now it's her turn to help him. Looking around, Gus wonders if they'll ever finish the house: It seems so messy and un-put-together. He gets a call from Natalia saying that she and Rafe will be coming by for a visit. They start to worry and call the boys down to explain things to them. When Rafe and Natalia arrive, the boys introduce themselves and Harley takes Natalia outside. Harley suggests that she came to town because she wanted Gus to be a father to their son. Inside, Gus tries to be friendly, but it's awkward and Rafe won't speak. Natalia comes back in and he's eager to go but she says that he'll be staying put. She tells him to be good and walks out. Gus follows her. She tells him that this is the sort of place she always dreamed they would have together. It would be wrong to keep this sort of life from Rafe. She hugs Gus and asks him to watch out for Rafe; he's not as tough as he seems. Back inside, Rafe calls Daisy, but Gus walks back in. Meanwhile, Zach pulls a syringe from Rafe's bag.

Just a Blip

Friday, June 15 2007

At Company, Remy is helping Natalia move her stuff in when Gus arrives. She hugs him and thanks him for what he's done. Remy is less happy to see Gus. When Natalia informs Gus that she is moving in, he tells her that it's not a good idea. The area she is moving into is a bad area and he worries. It's all that she can afford. He points out that Rafe needs a good school but Natalia is sure that Rafe can handle himself. Besides, they'll be neighbors with Remy. At that, Remy jumps in and tells him to stay out of this, but Gus shoots the same back. As Remy walks away, Natalia reminds Gus that she has always looked after their son. If he wants Rafe in his life, he'll get her too. Is that something he and Harley can handle? He wants to do the right thing for her and their son. He admires what she has done, but they aren't kids anymore, they have a kid. When he offers her money to help, she feels insulted and tells him to keep his cash and his judgments. After she walks away, Remy tells Gus to leave Natalia alone but Gus insists that this is just about his son. Once Gus is gone, Remy tells Natalia that Gus is a jerk and the neighborhood isn't that bad.
