Alan finds Natalia sitting on Main Street, deep in thought. He invites her and Rafe to have Thanksgiving with he and Alexandra. She's not sure that Rafe is up to it. Alan is sure that cheese grits will make Rafe forget his problems. She asks him if Gus will be there. He takes her arm and they walk off together. When she returns home, alone, she finds Gus waiting for her. He tells her that he grounded their son. They need to pull together as a family and move forward. 'We can give Rafe the family that he needs,' Gus offers. He wants to prove his commitment to her, so he takes out a ring and asks her to marry him. She is clearly conflicted and tells him that she needs time. They can't say anything to Rafe until she decides. He says that he will wait, but they should do this– they should have the chance to fall in love again. He pulls her into a kiss just as Alan walks in. Meanwhile, Rafe has walked out and runs into Daisy on Main Street. He tells her that he's been grounded because of her. He refuses to go back to school. She tells him to stop being such a jerk. He can hate her, but he shouldn't ruin his life.
While Natalia is doing her housekeeping at The Beacon, she finds a DVD made by Gus. She puts it on: It's all about how important Harley is to him. When she leaves the room, she startles Olivia as she walks into the hall. Olivia explains that she's just been on edge since Emma got a gift from Phillip. 'You must wish you never even met him,' Natalia says. In spite of everything he did to her, Olivia can't say that about Phillip though. They start to commiserate about their problems with men. Olivia suggests that Natalia should leave Gus to Harley; she may not be the only reason they broke up, but she's the main reason they aren't getting back together. Olivia walks into her room alone where she finds a message from Alan looking for an update on their plan. She rushes over to the mansion and tells him that she doesn't want any part of this anymore. He should be taking care of his granddaughter because he loves her, not just to gain something. This isn't a game. He's not listening and tells her again to distract Gus. She doesn't see why she should. If he wants a woman, can't he get one without resorting to manipulation? He's an attractive man after all. 'Are you that unlovable?' she asks. 'I don't know; am I?' he asks his former wide. 'I loved you once...,' she admits. Maybe someone else can be that crazy, she suggests. After she leaves, Alan pulls Phillip's number out of the bottom of his cigar box. He calls his son and leaves a message. Moments later, he goes over to Olivia's and sets out a picture of Emma and a gift before he begins smashing things and trashing the room to look like Phillip was there. He hides out in the hall until Olivia returns. When she gets inside, she grabs her umbrella and looks around before calling out for Phillip. Picking up the phone, she calls to check that Emma is alright. In the hall, a man with a stuffed animal approaches the door.
Rafe is at Cedars, calling Daisy when Natalia appears. He hangs up and make an excuse. She asks him how his doctor's appointment went and they go off to lunch. Walking along the street, she brings him to see Father Ray. The priest tries to speak to him but Rafe rudely walks away. Natalia follows him, stopping him for being so rude. She demands that he listen to her, but he refuses, calling her a hypocrite. She admits that what she did with Gus all those years ago, and recently, was a sin, but she can't say that she regrets it because, without it, she wouldn't have Rafe. She turns and soon finds herself with Alan. They sit down for coffee. She blames herself for everything, stating that she has been a bad example to her wayward son. Harley and Gus had something sacred and she ruined it. All of that has to stop now. She can't let her child down again. 'Just let me know what I can do to help,' Alan offers. He asks her if he can take her and Rafe to church and then leaves with a smile. Frank walks by and Natalia tells him that she's not an idiot when it comes to Alan. He understands that Alan helps her and her kid; he doesn't hold that against her. He asks her if she can help him out by convincing Alan to testify against Cyrus. She can't do that.
Emma asks Olivia if she can call her daddy in Heaven and thank him for the present. She explains that he's not in Heaven...he just isn't 'a well man.' If she sees him anywhere, she has to call for her mother right away. Emma keeps asking questions and Olivia tries to explain but it's hard; the little girl just needs to know that her mother and grandfather love her. Meanwhile, Rafe walks down the street talking on the phone. His mother tries to talk to him but he snaps at her. When he continues ignoring her, Alan grabs his phone away and tells him to listen to his mother. Rafe storms off and Alan apologizes. He feels sorry for Rafe though: He's been through a lot lately. She's been through a lot too, so maybe she should let him take her out for dinner, Alan suggests. She tells him that she is supposed to spend the evening with Gus; he's getting an annulment. Alan warns her that she should be skeptical about Gus. Olivia and Emma stroll over and Natalia takes Emma to the toy store so they can have a chat. Olivia is afraid of what will happen if Phillip comes back. He tells her not to worry. Right now, she just needs to keep Gus from Natalia: 'I have plans for her.' 'Does she know that?' Olivia wonders.
When Gus is sitting downtown, Olivia calls him and asks him to take a look at her security system. He goes over and starts checking through things while she talks about Emma and all the stress she's under. He tells her that his marriage is over. Jokingly, she tells him it's his first divorce and 'it gets easier' each time. He tells her it's actually an annulment...anyway, he appreciates her keeping him busy with something to do. Meanwhile, Alan returns to the mansion where he finds Natalia all dressed up with no place to go. Since Gus isn't showing up, Alan offers her his arm and takes her out.
At the mansion, Gus is trying to call Harley. He leaves her a message about Phillip sending Emma a gift and suggests that she be on the look-out. When he turns around, Natalia is standing there. She understands that he wants to protect Harley. Meanwhile, as Olivia sleeps, a shadow creeps over her. She jumps up and threatens them, but it's only a dream. Worried, she calls Alan and they renew their alliance. He tells her to get Gus out of the mansion and keep him busy. She calls Gus and tells him that she thinks Phillip was in her room. He tells her that he'll be over right away. He explains to Natalia that he has to go. She pulls the cigarette out of his mouth and tells him that she understands that he wants to help everyone: That's why she fell in love with him in the first place. (Alan has been listening in on the entire conversation).
Gus hurries over to see Olivia and promises her that they will figure this out. She shows him a picture that she says Phillip must have slipped into her desk. He wants to check her surveillance cameras and beef up security. She confesses to him that she's never gotten used to being alone. Gus says she can call him if Phillip comes back and then, abruptly, leaves. Meanwhile, Alan is telling Natalia that she should be out having fun, not waiting around for Gus. 'When a man's marriage breaks up, he needs a little time,' Alan advises her. He leaves her alone for awhile and then comes back, telling her that Gus is a restless soul, not an 'old-fashioned family man' like him. Gus isn't in the right place right now for a relationship. He gets her ready to go out with him for the evening when Gus returns. Natalia agrees to stay behind and talk to Gus. He needs to tell her about what he's been thinking. Alan leaves and Gus explains to her that it's time for his marriage to end; he's going after an annulment. 'This isn't about how things end, it's about a new beginning,' he claims. She tells him that he shouldn't do this for her sake. If Harley called him back right now, would he go? 'No,' he says confidently.
At the mansion, a saddened Alan confronts Natalia about her plans to move out. He doesn't want her to go. She tells him that Gus' room is next to her room and it's awkward. He reminds her that it's a big house and she could even go and live in the guest house; it's right across from his suite. Gus walks in and tells them that he's having the staff move her out to the pool house so she'll be more comfortable...and it's right across from his suite if she needs him. Alan leaves to attend Emma's birthday. Later, Gus and Natalia go over to the church after it's been demolished. She says it's a pity they had to destroy it when it was so nice. Gus feels like he's surrounded by ghosts. Frank calls looking for Harley but won't explain anything. They leave and go over to Emma's party for awhile before.
Natalia and Gus return to the mansion. She tells him that they made a mistake when they slept together. He understands that she wants to set the right example for her kid. 'I worry about what's right for all of us,' she says. Later, Olivia arrives and tells Gus that she is freaking out over Phillip's gift. She sobs and he hugs her for comfort. Meanwhile, Alan finds Natalia and gives her a cross. He lies and tells her that it belonged to Gus' mother but he wants to share it with her now.
Reva comes home to find Daisy crying in her bed. She tells her granddaughter that she needs to stop grieving and get out of there. Daisy is upset that Rafe has already moved on with another girl. 'Get on with your life,' her grandmother advises. Daisy doesn't think she has a life anymore. Reva tell her that's just 'too damn bad'; she needs to get up and get herself together. After getting dressed, they go to see Rafe at the mansion. He's not there. Natalia is and she's not happy to see them. Daisy still wants to talk to Rafe, but Natalia doesn't want her near him. Reva sends Daisy out and turns to Natalia. 'You have no right to talk to her like that and, from now on, anything you have to say to her, you can say to me.' Reva says that Daisy got into trouble because of Rafe and she had to handle it by herself. Natalia isn't going to forgive her, or Reva for keeping her secret and not trying to stop her. Reva insists that this was Daisy's decision and she made it to protect Rafe because she loves him. She picks up a vase and throws it, telling Natalia that she is crazy when people threaten her family. Her granddaughter was a sweet, virginal girl before Rafe came to town with his adulterous mother. 'Before you came to town, Gus and Harley were happily married and now they're talking to lawyers,' Reva points out. That isn't what Natalia planned. She admits that she knows that Daisy didn't want what's happened, but everyone has to be responsible for their own actions.
