At Cedars, Vanessa sits beside Dinah and promises her that everything will be fine. Matt arrives to check in, but Vanessa asks him to leave: She doesn't want to be in the same room as him. As they begin to argue, Mallet, who hasn't slept in days, runs in and begs them to stop or he'll throw them out. They leave the room. Vanessa is distraught; Dinah shouldn't be in that bed: It should be Matt. Mallet begs them not to argue in Dinah's room anymore and then returns to look at his unconscious wife. Marina tells him to go home and get some rest. He's reluctant, particularly as Dinah's eyelids flicker and her hand shakes, but Marina pulls him away.
Matt tells Vanessa that he's sorry he was out of line; he feels responsible for what's happened. While she won't scream and yell at him, she won't talk to him either. When she walks away, he follows her, sick of apologizing. He only did what he did to give her and Maureen a better life. No matter how many bad calls he's made, he's never questioned his love for her. If she can't see that, they're finished.
In Company, when Dinah comes back from a phone call, Vanessa tells her that Mallet took Matt off to look at some jewellery to buy for her. That sounds bad to Dinah and she instantly thinks of what must be happening. 'Mallet don't do this, ' she mumbles. Vanessa doesn't know what she's upset about. Dinah tells her mother to stay there while she searches for her husband and step-father. She calls Mallet, begging him to find another way, but he won't pick up. When she returns to Company, she finds that her mother is gone. Bumping into Billy, she asks him if he's seen her mother. He would remember if he'd seen her, but he hasn't. Smiling, he reassures her that her mother can look after herself and tells Dinah that she's come a long way and her mother is proud of her. She's lucky to have such a great man in her life, maybe she can be a hero someday too. When he walks away, she begins to chant 'for better or worse.'
Afterwards, Dinah and Mallet go into Company and find Matt and Vanessa. They've decided to give it another try and Matt has made a new deal to get them money and out of their troubles. Mallet glues a smile to his face and tries to act happy. After congratulating her mother, Dinah has to leave for a phone call. They pour champagne and toast before Mallet asks to take Matt out to look at something. Dinah returns and Vanessa explains where they went. Mallet takes Matt down to the water and tells him that the people he owes aren't interested in repayment: They want to make him an example. Mallet takes out his gun and takes aim.
Vanessa arrives and Matt comes soon behind. Blake tells them that seeing them together gives her hope. She calls her kids and then begins asking Matt and Vanessa about how things are. After some awkward responses, Dinah arrives with flowers. Rick shows everyone out because he has to take her down for some more tests. In the hall, Vanessa asks her daughter if getting Matt there was her idea. As she strides off, Matt rushes after Vanessa and tries talking to her. He tells her that he can remember another miracle; he wants to work things out. She admits that she misses him, but so much has happened that... his phone rings. One of the loan sharks gives him a threat and hangs up. She shakes her head and walks away. Meanwhile, Mallet takes Dinah aside and tells her that he told Blake his secret. Dinah starts to worry when Rick calls them back in: Blake is demanding to see them. Back in her room, Dinah promises to get her the best therapy she can; it's what her father would have wanted. Blake just wants to be in a safe environment: A place where there are no secrets and everyone knows everything about each other, she says, staring them up and down.
At police headquarters, Doris keeps calling Ashlee, worried by her recent strange behavior. She turns around to find an agitated Matt looking for information on Cyrus' case. Later, at the Beacon, Vanessa confronts Doris about Cyrus. Doris promises her that her office is working on capturing him, but Vanessa isn't impressed so far. Doris then moves on to Company. Buzz makes a joke about Alan that she doesn't appreciate. She sits down and he tells her that, at least she still has Ashlee; she should be proud of her. Doris loves her daughter, but she isn't sure about what she seems to be becoming. 'The things we do for our kids,' Buzz wonders with a twinkle as he leave with a bag of food for Marina.
Matt goes knocking on Vanessa's door. He tells her that he went to see Maureen but didn't tell her anything about what's happened. She throws him another bag he left behind and tells him to leave her alone. He vows to fight for her the way that he always has. 'This isn't like the other times,' she points out. Matt thinks that they have to show their daughter what a good marriage is and prove that they can stick together. He just wants to move forward and wants her to be by his side. After promising her that he will never let anything happen to her or Maureen, she tells him that he knows what he has to do then. He walks out.
Confronting Matt, Vanessa asks him why he wouldn't come to her with his problems in the first place. He says that he couldn't. They return to their room. She can't believe how stupid he's been. He tells her that he only did this for her; he saw the opportunity for something big. He wanted to make her feel secure again. As they argue, he confesses that he's always felt second class in the relationship; she was always the one who owned everything and had all the power. This was his one chance and he screwed it up. He furiously starts kicking at the furniture before she calmly tells him that they'll find a way to deal with this. 'No...there's more to it,' he says. He used their daughter's trust fund as collateral. Appalled, Vanessa begins screaming at him. Now they have less than nothing. She tells him to get out.
At company, Dinah wonders how Matt could have been so desperate to borrow money from a loan shark. Frank comes in and tells them he managed to get a shot off but Cyrus escaped. He gives Mallet all the details that they've uncovered so far: Cyrus wasn't acting alone, he had a woman helping him. Frank asks Dinah for some additional information on Cyrus but she insists that she can't help. Mallet returns to them after a call and says that he hasn't been able to get a hold of Marina. Something must be wrong. After going back to their room, Dinah begs Mallet not to get more involved in this. There's a knock at the door and a jumpy Mallet pulls his gun. It's just Matt though, aggressively begging Dinah for help tracking down Cyrus. He desperately tells her to help him just like he helped her in Europe. Mallet makes him back off. A call comes in: Marina has been found shot. Dinah tells Mallet to go and see his partner. He is reluctant to leave her with the angry Matt, but she insists that he go. Matt knows that Dinah knows more than she is letting on. Vanessa walks in and drops Matt's bags on the floor. 'I can't live with you right now,' she states. Dinah tries to tell them to work through it, but her mother cuts her off and tells her that she doesn't know what she's talking about. Vanessa wonders if there are other things that he's done, but Matt answers that he would never do anything intentionally to hurt her. Vanessa won't listen to either of their protests. Dinah offers to do anything they need, but it's too late.
Cyrus is in Dinah's room. She hopes that this will be the end of everything but he still has another request. Since Marina forced him to open a bank account in his own name, he can't waltz in there and start taking money out of another account while he has been flagged. She suggests that he put on a disguise. He likes that idea, but it will be her in disguise, he smiles. They remember the old days. Flashing back, we see the younger Cyrus and Dinah in Europe. He has just pulled her off a bridge where she almost committed suicide. Already, he knows about her past, her thievery and the murder she committed. She's just the sort of person he's been looking for. Back in the present, she slips on a wig when Vanessa walks in, startled to see Dinah in disguise. Fumbling for an excuse, Dinah says that she just thought she'd try some role-playing in the bedroom. Vanessa wishes that she had such an exciting love life. Matt has totally shut down since the money went missing. Asking her daughter out to dinner, she hopes that maybe Mallet can come and speak to Matt. Dinah thinks that Matt will just feel like she's ganging up on him. Besides, she has to go to a surprise party for Marina now. She leads her disgruntled mother out before Cyrus reappears.
