It Doesn't Change My Mind.

Tuesday, November 25 2008

At Cedars, Lizzie tells Bill that she will speak at the trial for him. After kissing his head, she leaves for the station. Alan is waiting there and he's worried. He still doesn't understand why she is testifying. She needs to listen to her heart. Alan begs her again not to testify, worrying that battling with Doris will destroy her. Lizzie loves him for trying to stop her pain, but she needs to stand up for someone she loves, just like he taught her to.

After Lizzie goes in to testify to the grand jury, Alan bribes a cop to sneak him in. He hides and listens as Lizzie takes the stand. She talks about how Bill could not have faked his feelings for her and she is confident that he had nothing to do with the crime. Doris tears into her, but Lizzie insists that this is a frame up. Doris suddenly enters the coat into evidence. Lizzie is shocked because she had the evidence suppressed. Doris explains that the decision was reversed and asks Lizzie why she was so desperate to destroy it.

Alan meets Lizzie when she walks out. She worries that she lost it in the courtroom. She thinks she may have even made herself sound guilty. Alan urges her to go home. She wants to return to Bill to explain what's happened. After she leaves, Doris comes out and meets with Alan. He feels bad for what's happened to Lizzie. Doris promises him that Bill will be out of Lizzie's life soon and she will have a high profile conviction. She tells him that she has a bottle of champagne chilling already. He doesn't want to celebrate breaking his granddaughter in two. The jury files back into the courtroom.

Buying the Cow.

Monday, November 24 2008

Lizzie gets out of bed and sadly stares at Bill's monogrammed lighter. She picks up the paper as her lawyer calls. He informs her that he's managed to suppress evidence going to the grand jury. She hurries over to Cedars to see Bill but he's off getting tests. She talks to the lighter, vowing not to let anyone frame him. Returning home, she tells Alan her good news. He hopes it works out for her. She apologizes for blaming him before. She tells him that Doris has no case without the coat. Alan warns her that it may not be that simple. Lizzie tells him she has no doubts of Bill's innocence, even if Billy and Vanessa do. He begins worrying that Doris will call her to the stand and try to take advantage of her. He gets a message from city hall saying that Doris is about to give an interview. She runs off.

In her office Doris is furious when she learns that evidence has been suppressed. She throws a press conference, telling the journalists that she is only seeking justice. Lizzie and Alan show up. Lizzie accuses her of trying to railroad Bill and asks her why she won't allow her to testify. Doris sends the reporters away. Lizzie wants answers to her questions. Doris thinks Lizzie's feelings are getting in the way and says she can get an indictment without the coat. Lizzie continues to be defensive but Doris tries to brush her off. Lizzie begs her to let her go on the stand. "Those doors are going to stay closed," Doris says. Lizzie and Alan walk out. She cries and repeats that she knows Bill is innocent and just needs a chance to prove it. Now she has to go home to Bill's empty bed, not knowing if they will ever share it again. She goes home and he returns to Doris' office.

Alan returns to the mansion and tells Lizzie that the grand jury has called her in to testify. She is thrilled, sure she can make everyone see that Bill is innocent.

Spartacus was Guilty.

Friday, November 21 2008

Lizzie plays with Roxie at the mansion. She tells her dog all about her faith in Bill and then yells at her phone so the defense lawyer will call back. Suddenly, he does. Alan steps in and listens while she tells the lawyer to have the investigation suppressed as soon as possible. When she gets off the phone, Alan advises her to get some rest. He suggests that part of her, deep down, may believe that Bill is guilty. Why else would she try so hard to destroy evidence? They argue. She's sure he wants Bill to be guilty and accuses him of attempting to plant doubts in her head. She points out that he brought Frank there to search the mansion and is suddenly sure that he is the one framing Bill. He tells her that she isn't thinking straight. She runs off in a frenzy. Beth walks in. He offers her a drink. She admits that if she were in Lizzie's shoes, she might accuse him of what her daughter has. Alan admits that he doesn't like Bill but wouldn't frame him. All he wants for Lizzie is true happiness. He asks Beth to his bedroom. She admits that she is drawn to him and his lust for protecting the family, but warns him that Lizzie could end up being just as vindictive as he is.

Lizzie storms into the police station looking for Alan. She finds him writing something and accuses him of giving the police more evidence against Bill. When she snatches the paper out of his hands, she sees that he is confessing to her kidnapping. She knows he isn't guilty. He tells her he only cares about her happiness and thought this could protect her. She apologizes for accusing him and leaves to take a call from Bill's lawyer. Beth accuses Alan of going 'Spartacus' on her. "Spartacus was guilty; I'm not," Alan says smugly.

I Live and so Does our Baby.

Wednesday, November 19 2008

At the station, Frank shows Lizzie and Alan the surveillance footage. It's impossible to clearly make out a face. It doesn't prove anything, Lizzie insists. As Alan tells Frank this is waste of time, Lizzie stares at the video. She begins begging Frank to stop the investigation. Alan takes her aside and asks her if she saw something. She claims there is nothing to see and barks at Frank to stop this before he ends up looking like a fool. After she storms off, Alan tells Frank that he should move on and stop investigating Bill. Frank is defensive. They bicker about how they handle their families. Alan offers to let him bring his men over to the mansion to comb for new evidence.

Lizzie returns to the mansion and searches Bill's room. Although she tells herself that Bill must be innocent, she can't shake a strange feeling. Looking under the bed, she finds the jacket. She gasps and tells herself that it doesn't prove anything. Running outside, she douses the jacket in lighter fluid. Before she can light it up, Alan and Frank stop her. As she makes excuses, Alan defends her. Frank takes the jacket, announcing that he now has enough evidence for the grand jury. As he walks off, Alan holds her back. She cries in his arms.
