Old and Ornery.

Wednesday, November 26 2008

At Cross Creek, Jeffrey asks Reva if she has come to her senses. They begin arguing until Buzz arrives. He invites them to Marina's and then helps himself to coffee. They don't seem interested in going. Sensing awkwardness, he leaves. Jeffrey asks Reva again to change her mind. She goes upstairs to change her clothes.

Olivia and Natalia are at the Coopers'. Natalia is planning her future Thanksgivings in her new house. Olivia's uncomfortable. Across the room, Rick catches up with Reva. She tells him everything is fine. Meanwhile, Olivia approaches Jeffrey and they discuss Ava. Reva comes over and tells her how well she is doing. Emma drags her mother away. Jeffrey tells Reva that he can't be thankful while she puts her own life at risk.

Reva has slipped away and runs into Josh at Towers. He's still hoping for a call from their kids. They talk about them and how she doesn't want to take any chances with her children in the future. He asks her to sit down and tells her again that she is a good mother. She thinks their children turned out alright because he was twice the parent she was. Josh tries to point out the positive things about the children he didn't raise and urges her to forgive herself. He tells her that she needs to leave room in her life to screw up, or she will be bored. She needs to be herself.

Reva returns to the Coopers' just as Buzz is about to start the toasting. She toasts to life; it takes almost losing it to realize how important it is. Crying, she tells everyone how thankful she is to be able to bring another life into the world. She's always been in love, but never 'lived in love' the way she does now. She offers thanks for her children and grandchildren. "Let's try to make each day Thanksgiving," she finishes. Since there is no food, they decide to call for takeout. Mallet and Marina slip away. He tells her that she is the person he loves. She loves him too and doesn't need him to declare it to anyone. He asks her to marry him. They kiss.

Jeffrey and Reva walk outside. He tells her it was quite a toast. She agrees to do the chemo, but she wants to be the mother to his baby too, so they can grow 'old and ornery' together.

It Doesn't Change My Mind.

Tuesday, November 25 2008

At Cross Creek, Jeffrey is annoyed that Reva went off on her own to think instead of talking to him. She insists that the baby is what is important and she is having it no matter what. They go on a walk. He reminds her that she has known the risks all along, but cancer changes everything. "It doesn't change my mind," she says. She's grateful for every breath, but confident she can beat the cancer and keep the baby. He doesn't think her positive thinking is going to save her or the baby. "I'm not going to lose you. I flat out refuse!" he says. She begins to yell, telling him that he can never understand what she feels because he's not a mother. What he feels can't be the same or he would never consider what he proposes. He stops her and tells her that Lillian suggested they see another doctor.

Jeffrey takes Reva to Cedars. She's shocked when Dr. Colin McCabe comes out. After hugging him, he explains that he will try to treat her and the baby but can't promise anything. She gets up to walk out. Jeffrey stops her and makes her sit back down. "Okay doctor, wow me," she challenges. He outlines the treatment options and the risks. She and Jeffrey walk out. She tells him that she feels safe with Dr. McCabe. As they walk down the corridor, they run into Josh. He tells them that Shayne won't be making it home for Thanksgiving.

When Reva and Jeffrey get back to Cross Creek, she tells him that she has to do things right this time. She failed her other children and she can't do that again. They argue and she walks upstairs. He stays downstairs alone.

Am I Smarter?

Thursday, November 20 2008

The doctor beeps Jeffrey and Reva to let them know that the results are in. Jeffery admits to Reva that he is scared. She's not scared because she knows that he'll be there for her. They kiss and walk over to Cedars. When they get in the doctor's office, she jokes that the last time she had a scare, she ended up being pregnant, the doctor is dour. He explains that they need to analyze her bone marrow because she may have leukemia. It's early so she shouldn't panic, he advises, suggesting that she needs to put her own health first and terminate the pregnancy. "Go to hell," she says, walking out.

Jeffrey tracks Reva down. He tells her that he talked to the doctor after she left and there is more she should hear. She's not interested in anything that will jeopardize the baby. "This is our baby Jeffrey!" she shouts, running off again. He chases her down. She repeats that the baby comes first. His phone starts to ring. She tells him to take the call while she takes care of what's important to her. He walks off and answers his phone. He's needed in DC right away. Lillian finds him and tells him that she knows about the diagnosis and advises him to get a second opinion.
