Vanessa falls asleep on Billy's shoulder while they sit in the corridor at Cedars. She wakes up and he tells her that they need to focus on their son coming out of the coma. Dinah calls to check in. She digs for details about the investigation. Her mother suggests that she find something productive to do, like volunteer work. After hanging up, a nurse walks by and tells the parents that Bill is awake. They're thrilled and run off. The nurse promptly calls the police.
Lizzie returns to the mansion. Billy is there. He tells her that he will go and sit with his son while she is there with her family. She is still angry at him for doubting Bill's innocence. In addition to that, it's Sarah's birthday and she can't even send her a gift. Billy asks her to go to the Coopers' with him. She leaves to change. When they get to the house, she can't even walk through the door. She instantly runs off and Billy follows.
Billy finds Lizzie sitting outside of Company. She's paranoid and is sure everyone thinks Bill is guilty, even his own family. Billy reminds her that he's known Bill a lot longer than her and tells her that he took the blinders off about his son a long time ago. "You've never believed in him," she says, walking away.
At Cedars, Billy and Vanessa wake up Lizzie while she sleeps beside Bill. They tell her she should go home and promise to call if there is a change. She tells them that the cops suspect Bill was behind the kidnapping. She assures them that she doesn't believe it. Frank arrives. Vanessa and Lizzie aren't happy to see him. Billy keeps everyone calm. Frank takes Billy and Vanessa away to be questioned while Lizzie returns to Bill's side and cries. Alan peers in and watches before ducking away.
Frank takes Vanessa and Billy to Company to talk. They aren't happy but Frank insists that the evidence against Bill is substantial. Vanessa defends her son but says that he felt guilty, though only because he couldn't protect Lizzie. Frank assumes there's more. Billy ends the questioning and they walk out.
At Cedars, Lizzie asks Frank if he's finished torturing Billy and Vanessa and asks him to go after the real kidnapper. She points out that the kidnapper's build was different than Bill's. He hopes she's right. When she walks away, she overhears Vanessa telling Billy that they may have to sue the cops for libel. She defends her son in spite of the evidence. Billy seems far less convinced that their son is innocent. He brings up the things that his son has done, especially to Lizzie. He wouldn't have been the first Lewis to be inches from everything he wanted before doing something stupid to screw it all up for himself. Lizzie finally interrupts them and tells them not to think these things. Billy says they are just trying to be honest. Lizzie doesn't care about the evidence; she has faith in Bill. Alan arrives. He tells Lizzie they need to head off to see the tape. They rush off.
Billy tracks Dinah down in the mansion. He says the family is worried that she's being distant. They all need to be circling the wagons right now to lend Bill their support. Dinah doesn't see how it can help. Billy tells her that she stepped up for Bill so the family is trying to step up for her. He admits that the only thing keeping him alive right now is seeing Bill through this and getting his hands on the person who did it to him. Alan soon walks in, outraged that there is a Lewis family get-together on his patio... and they're drinking his best wine!
After Alan ends the party, Billy tells him he's a 'miserable cur'. Alan doesn't feel miserable and thinks that Billy is just upset to have been taken down a peg in front of Vanessa. He wants Billy out. Billy doubts that Lizzie will allow that. They continue taunting each other. Alan just wants Lizzie to get over her 'gratitude' to Bill and see that the truth is that Bill is untrustworthy and opportunistic. Billy warns him that he is making a big mistake if he's underestimating his son. He saved Lizzie and proved how much he loves her. Alan says he'll make sure this doesn't last. "I don't think someone as insignificant as you can actually pull them apart." Billy taunts.
At the mansion, Vanessa tells Billy that Maureen wants to visit Bill. She worries that it could be too much for her. He takes out an old picture of them that he dug up. They laugh and remember as they look at it. He tells her that their son was hitting the bottle hard before he had the accident. She worries about Dinah and says that she may need to do more than keep an eye on her.
At the mansion, Beth hurries downstairs to tell Alan and Billy that Bill and Lizzie were just taken to Cedars. They rush off.
