The plucky Marina Cooper was fortunate to have a loving family while she went through her troubled childhood. While still young, she was kidnapped by Holly Reade and then went through her parent's break up. She moved to California with her mother, but ran away to Springfield after being expelled from school. She persisted in her mischievous ways; befriending criminals, falsely accusing Gus of sex with a minor and stealing cars until more serious things came her way. This would include unlucky affairs with a serial killer, a mobster caring for his sick wife and her mother's ex-husband. While her choices in love have been a strain on her relationship with her father, she managed to make him proud when she joined the Springfield PD and has become one of its most promising detectives. Still, she maintains the exuberance that had led her to desire a career in show business while she tries to find a more settled life.

Mallet and Marina are still cleaning up their house from Thanksgiving. She wonders why everyone gets so weird and dramatic during the holidays. She suggests that people always say things they can't remember the next day. He tells her to look in the fridge. She finds a bouquet of flowers with a bride and groom on top. She smiles as he lifts her up and kisses her.
Mallet and Marina arrive outside of the boarding house. They talk about marriage. Natalia begins down the stairs, spots them and goes back up. Marina tells Mallet how natural their relationship has developed. She can't wait to be his wife; she just wanted to make sure that he was sure. They tell each other how much they love each other. After they kiss, she runs off and Natalia comes down the stairs, awkwardly saying hello before walking off. He gets on the phone. "I just left her and she doesn't suspect a thing," he says.
At Company, Coop is cleaning glasses and hands Marina some tickets to Greece. The family is planning a trip over there to see Harley. As she looks them over, he tells her that they are going to re-do the house while she is away. She's not happy that they are meddling in her life. She grabs a beer. As she drinks, Frank walks by. She confronts him about the plan to go to Greece and see Harley. She would like to be consulted about these things. "I don't want to be a private in the Cooper army," she says. Suddenly, she tells him she loves him and walks off. Frank is confused. After Marina leaves, Frank asks Coop what's going on. Coop doesn't know. Frank is sure that Mallet and Marina are trying to elope and he's not going to let it happen. He becomes excited, sure that his daughter must want a big, fancy wedding. Coop worries, but Frank begins to shout in excitement.
Later, Marina walks in and asks Mallet how much he loves her. She begins talking about Coop's surprise when she notices a bag on the floor. Her mother pops up. They run to each other and giggle. Marina stops Mallet before he can mention the wedding so she can take her mother out to show her the yard. After that, she shows her around the house and up to her room. Marina runs down to Mallet and tells him that her family is getting too involved and she wants to keep things simple and strictly between them. She needs one thing in her life that every Cooper doesn't get the chance to weigh in on.
Mallet finds Marina sitting on the porch. She's not thrilled that they are holding Thanksgiving for the 'stragglers'. He begs her to come inside and help him cook. She brushes him off. He imagines she's angry because he's publicly told her that he loves her twice. Once with a gun pointed at him and the second time while drunk on ouzo. She tells him he can prove he loves her by not lighting the house on fire. They hear something blow up and rush inside. Rushing in, they find Frank and Coop arguing about cornmeal. Marina begins taking over. They're all surprised that the turkey she bought is so small. Coop thanks Daisy for not bringing Grady. Frank echoes the sentiment. Annoyed, she threatens to call him.
The family set the table. The toilet clogs. Marina and Mallet bicker and Frank teases her, suggesting that she would never get married without them around. She insists that she has a private life that doesn't include them. Rick arrives. Marina's startled that he didn't bring anything. Moments later, she discovers that Daisy has thrown away the dinner rolls because they are all hard as rocks. Coop asks for snacks. The cheese is moldy. Buzz arrives and tells her that everyone looks happy. "That's because they think food is coming," she says.
Reva returns to the Coopers' just as Buzz is about to start the toasting. She toasts to life; it takes almost losing it to realize how important it is. Crying, she tells everyone how thankful she is to be able to bring another life into the world. She's always been in love, but never 'lived in love' the way she does now. She offers thanks for her children and grandchildren. "Let's try to make each day Thanksgiving," she finishes. Since there is no food, they decide to call for takeout. Mallet and Marina slip away. He tells her that she is the person he loves. She loves him too and doesn't need him to declare it to anyone. He asks her to marry him. They kiss.
