After

Thursday, February 01 2007

Frank goes to see the rest of the Cooper family gathered at Harley’s after the funeral. He breaks the news to them. Buzz asks if Alan is in custody. He isn’t. Buzz gets so upset that he walks out. Frank asks Marina to come and stay with him for a few days and take some time off work. She declines the offer. Tammy wouldn’t want her pulling out of the world. Later, Dinah remembers her time with Jonathan and tells Marina that she’s sorry for her loss. Outside, Frank asks Mallet to look after Marina right now; she’s hurting and feels like she has something to prove. When Mallet goes back in to take Dinah to lunch, they invite Marina. She says no; she wants to check on Remy or do some work. They don’t want her to be alone and insist that she comes along with them.

Alan sits at his table and takes out his last photo of Sarah. He begins making calls. He wants to have Outskirts destroyed and then he wants to do everything he can to punish Reva. ‘Hasn’t there been enough punishment, or is there never enough for you?’ Buzz bellows from the doorway. Alan imagines that Buzz is getting some sort of self-righteous pleasure out of this. Buzz doesn’t care who is guilty in all of this; he just wants an end to all the hurt. Alan doesn’t believe that he can understand the pain of watching his future die. But Buzz does understand; he watched Nadine and Jenna die and it made him want to destroy everything. Alan has to admit that he’s sad and broken. Buzz finds the book Alan was making for his child with Beth. Alan wanted to be a good father at least once. He snatches the book away and hides it, asking Buzz never to tell anyone about it. Buzz tells him that monsters don’t make books like that and turns to go. Alan asks him if he still believes in forgiveness. ‘Yeah...even for you,’ he says as he leaves. Lizzie walks in and they stare at each other before he moves to her. He tells her that it’s okay to show her sadness and she begins crying into his chest. Frank arrives and tells Alan it’s time to go down to the station. He promises her that he never meant to harm Sarah and they aren’t to blame for what happened to Tammy. Frank takes him away.

The Funeral

Milestones

Coop calls Jeffrey to get Alan-Michael's address in Paris. Seeing Buzz at CO2, Jeffrey informs him that Coop won't be home tonight; he had something to take care of. Buzz walks away, baffled about what Coop and Jeffrey are doing together. Olivia knows that this is all about Ava. She accuses Jeffrey of insinuating himself in her life. He can't be Ava's savior--'she doesn't need a daddy,' she's all grown up. Jeffrey reminds her that she felt all grown up once too and thought she was savvy. That's how she met him. If she could go back, wouldn't she want someone to help stop her from making a mistake? He walks away and she calls Ava, leaving a message offering her help if she needs it. Buzz interrupts and she pretends that it was a wrong number. They go back to his room to talk about their honeymoon. She thinks that they should go to Paris.

Weakest Link

Tuesday, January 09 2007

Buzz and Olivia sit down at Towers to discuss their wedding plans. She wants him to keep it small; they’ve both done it more than a few times already. Buzz however, insists on doing it ‘right.’ She’s worried that they aren’t exactly going to have a room full of joyous guests. Most of his family hates her, except for Frank and that could be awkward. Slightly dismayed, Buzz starts asking other guests in the dining room about how their weddings went. Embarrassed by his overt enthusiasm, Olivia starts giggling and begs him to stop, but can’t hide that she’s getting excited. He hopes that their wedding will be chaotic because life is chaotic. She finally gives in and declares that they can have the mother of all weddings and just hope for the best.

Buzz is having a drink with Alexandra and starts to tell her his wedding plans. She’s happy to see him so happy, but generally, she is neither happy nor unhappy; only still standing, ‘which is a lot for a Spaulding woman.’ Marina arrives and Alexandra excuses herself, promising to come to the wedding. Marina loves to see her grandfather happy; now she wants to get women for all the men in her family. When Buzz leaves, Coop arrives to quiz Marina on all fo Alan-Michael’s moves. She explains that ‘it’s his lack of subtlety that reels you in...there’s never any question that he’s into you as he showers you with gifts...you start wondering why he’s chasing you and start really caring for him and that’s how he gets you right where he wants you.’

Find Your Light

Wednesday, January 03 2007

The next day, Mallet announces to the crowd that the money has been donated to the people of Springfield to make the town a better place. Dinah takes Buzz aside and tells him that he must be pleased with himself. This didn’t start with him, he says and he takes Dinah over to Zach. This was all an idea that he came up with one night. It was even Zach who brought Gloria in for food and a scarf. Zach wants all the money to go to charity and everyone agrees.

Three is a Crowd

Thursday, December 28 2006

At CO2, Buzz helps Coop clean up after he makes a mess. Coop is angry that everyone is interfering with Ava’s and imagines that Alan-Michael and Jeffrey are trying to take over her life. Olivia overhears Coop says that Jeffrey went to see Ava at the airport and she becomes enraged and stalks off. Buzz asks Coop if he apologized to Ava for withholding information from her and he refuses to admit that he’s done anything wrong. Buzz thinks that this is a mistake. Ava is her mother’s daughter and those women ‘don’t like to be handled.’ They want to own their own mistakes. Coop points out that Ava doesn’t look for trouble though. Buzz says that, if he can’t live without her, he has to fight for her. Coop then hurries over to Alan-Michael’s and tells him that he knows that Ava wasn’t given her promotion because of her job performance. He’s not going to let Alan-Michael win. Alan-Michael says that it’s nice of him to inform him that they’re competing and shuts the door in Coop’s face.

Ava’s Choice

Wednesday, December 27 2006

Later, at the Cooper house, she hides behind the gate to witness Buzz proposing to Olivia. Ava smiles and goes to Outskirts for a drink. A man at the bar with his friends starts chatting her up and asking her about her problems. She says that it would take all night to explain them but tries anyway. Her parents are the sort of people who you would cross the street to avoid if you saw them coming. They hate each other and her boyfriend has been trying to get her out of town. This bar however, has been like her second home since she arrive in town. The man tells her that he asked Santa for a pretty girl for Christmas and Ava asks him if he told his wife that. He should take his wedding ring off if he’s going to try and pick up girls. He gets more crude and starts grabbing at her before Jeffrey appears and pushes the guy off. Getting her outside, she tells him that she can handle herself. He wonders why she hasn’t left for England with Coop. When she tries to leave, he asks her not to, but Coop arrives and she asks Jeffrey to go. He shuffles away as she wishes him a Merry Christmas. He goes back into the bar and the guy who was trying to pick up Ava starts calling her a piece of trash that wasn’t worth his time etc. Jeffrey has enough of this and goes for him just as three of his friends jump him.

Returning to her room, she opens the gift and sees that it is a pair of earrings in her birth stone. Coop rushes in and asks her where she’s been. Seeing the gift by her hand, he asks if she’s been seeing someone else. She explains that she just went to see Jeffrey who was put in the hospital when he tried to defend her. He refused to talk to her though. She can’t understand why he would buy her a gift and not give it to her. Coop confesses that Jeffrey came to the airport trying to give it to her, but he stopped him and sent him away. He tells her that Jeffrey isn’t worthy of being her father. That isn’t his decision to make, Ava says, adding that she doesn’t need his protection and he needs to stop this or... But Coop doesn’t want to talk about any of this; he just wants to get on a plane. Ave tries to tell him that there is too much in her life right now: She needs a break, she needs time to herself to think. Coop is dumbfounded for a moment but a knock on the door breaks the silence. It’s Olivia, who has come to tell her daughter that she’s marrying Buzz. Olivia asks Coop to leave and he does, after telling Ava not to go anywhere. Olivia says that she just wants Buzz to be happy. The Cooper men are a rare breed; they aren’t controlling and manipulative, she says, Ava is lucky to have gotten one so early in life. Ava, who is rather unconvinced by this, doesn’t say anything and Olivia walks out as Coop returns. He tells her that he wants them to start over and he wishes her parents weren’t in her life; he doesn’t trust them or Alan-Michael. She tells him to trust her and that they need time apart. They got together too fast. He needs to follow his dreams and let he do what she want, even if that means working for Spaulding. He reluctantly nods and she leaves. He goes out, only to be found by Marina, Buzz and Frank who promise to help him, relax and get plastered.
