FRANK "BUZZ" COOPER SR'S HISTORY

“Buzz” Cooper left Springfield for Vietnam after high school, leaving behind a young pregnant wife. She realized that he had abandoned her and told the children that he was dead. In fact, he had married the wife of a mentally unbalanced soldier he had shot and started a life with her in the Philippines. In 1993, he returned to town while Harley was in search of him. He hid out, blackmailing his ex-wife and her husband Billy. He was forced to confess who he was when Mallet discovered his true identity. Realizing that they had been abandoned, his children initially refused to have anything to do with him. They gradually developed a relationship and he settle down, opening his own diner.

Soon, he found himself involved in the power struggles at Spaulding, thanks to his infatuation with Roger Thorpe's wife Jenna Bradshaw. After her marriage to Roger ended brutally, she and Buzz teamed up on a series of failed business schemes. While he moved between Jenna and his first wife Nadine, he wasn't able to offer either woman what they needed. He would leave, grieved by Nadine's tragic death, only to return with Reva in a short lived marriage. Slowly, he once again developed a relationship with Jenna while getting to know the child she was 'nanny' to. However, he would soon discover it was his son Henry.

After that, he was stalked by Nola Reardon who was left to care for him after an accident left him with amnesia. Harley found him and brought him home. As his memory returned, he discovered that his fiancée Jenna was pregnant with another man's baby. They ended up marrying while she went into labor and she died in his arms soon after from a car accident. Traumatized, he worked through his grief by buying a new diner with the winnings from a lottery ticket and became involved with former mob prostitute Selena. After she fled from her criminal past, he began to settle down with Holly before getting involved in an unlikely romance with Alexandra Spaulding. Through all of this, he became an unlikely source of support for the Cooper family and its many problems. Particularly among these was Phillip Spaulding, who made it a life's duty to destroy the Coopers. This would culminate in Buzz's heart attack and Phillip's 'murder.' Helping his family through this crisis time, he also fell for troubled Olivia Spenser offering her some much needed stability and eventually winning her over against his competition - his own son Frank.

At Cross Creek, Jeffrey asks Reva if she has come to her senses. They begin arguing until Buzz arrives. He invites them to Marina's and then helps himself to coffee. They don't seem interested in going. Sensing awkwardness, he leaves. Jeffrey asks Reva again to change her mind. She goes upstairs to change her clothes.

The family set the table. The toilet clogs. Marina and Mallet bicker and Frank teases her, suggesting that she would never get married without them around. She insists that she has a private life that doesn't include them. Rick arrives. Marina's startled that he didn't bring anything. Moments later, she discovers that Daisy has thrown away the dinner rolls because they are all hard as rocks. Coop asks for snacks. The cheese is moldy. Buzz arrives and tells her that everyone looks happy. "That's because they think food is coming," she says.

Monday, November 24 2008: Buying the Cow.

Coop gets a text from Beth. She wants to meet him and asks for a delivery. He sends her a message back and walks into Company. Buzz hands him a bag to deliver. He looks inside and sees it is not Beth's order. Nervous, he asks if there are any other orders. There aren't. He runs off to deliver just as Beth calls in. She uses a fake accent and name to order food. Lyn, the waitress, sends Buzz off with the order. Frank arrives. He and Lyn discuss the food drive and how V8 is a whole serving of vegetables.

Beth anxiously waits at The Beacon for Coop. She gets into a negligee and eagerly answers the door. To her shock, it isn't Coop, it's Buzz. He leaps when he sees her. She pulls him in and he tries to look away. She admits that she's not waiting for Alan and asks him to stay and talk for a minute. Bursting into tears, she tells him about her doomed relationships. She tells him how things went wrong with Alan; he looked down on her for going to law school and went off to loo-loo land with Gus. At that point, their relationship was over. Since then, she found lust with someone else and that helped her through a hard time while Lizzie and Alan were gone. Buzz recommends that she not let Alan find out about this and leaves.

Mallet arrives at Company and Frank throws him a potato so he can start peeling. Mallet refuses to wear an apron. Buzz walks in, announcing he needs a drink. He begins pouring and they toast to true love. They get drunk as they cook. Frank tells Mallet he thought he was the guy for his daughter, but it turns out that he's 'not the sharpest tool in the shed'. Mallet defends himself but Frank doubts he 'wants the cow if he's getting the milk for free'. Buzz begins screaming about true love. Mallet stands on the table and begins screaming that he loves Marina and they tried to elope. Marina stands in the doorway. "Oh Mallet..." she groans before noticing that the meal is on fire. After they put the fire out, Marina asks for an explanation. Mallet admits to Frank that he was 'going to buy the cow'. Frank hugs him. Mallet tells Frank he can be his best man and Buzz can be the matron of honor. As Marina teases him, he limps into the bathroom to be sick.
