A Private in the Cooper Army.

Thursday, December 04 2008

At Company, Coop is cleaning glasses and hands Marina some tickets to Greece. The family is planning a trip over there to see Harley. As she looks them over, he tells her that they are going to re-do the house while she is away. She's not happy that they are meddling in her life. She grabs a beer. As she drinks, Frank walks by. She confronts him about the plan to go to Greece and see Harley. She would like to be consulted about these things. "I don't want to be a private in the Cooper army," she says. Suddenly, she tells him she loves him and walks off. Frank is confused. After Marina leaves, Frank asks Coop what's going on. Coop doesn't know. Frank is sure that Mallet and Marina are trying to elope and he's not going to let it happen. He becomes excited, sure that his daughter must want a big, fancy wedding. Coop worries, but Frank begins to shout in excitement.

Affair With a Deli Slicer.

Wednesday, December 03 2008

Outside of Company, Coop tells his father that he doesn't want a lecture. Buzz doesn't lecture; he just has a lot of experience. He tells Coop that he is 'out of his mind'. "It is safer for you to have a love affair in that kitchen with my deli meat slicer," he warns. They sit on the stairs and Coop explains that he's been having writer's block. He met Beth in the library one day and they connected. Buzz reminds him about Alan. Coop is tired of being the nice guy who ends up with nothing. He doesn't want to be like Frank. Coop lists all of the Coopers and points out how few of them ever are level-headed about everything; he doesn't just want to write, he wants to live.

Natalia goes to her room to write a letter to Rafe. As she begins to cry, Buzz comes to the door. She won't answer. He goes downstairs and looks out the window, spotting Coop kissing Beth. Buzz rolls his eyes.

Doesn't Hold a Candle.

Tuesday, December 02 2008

Outside of Company, Coop tries calling Beth. He asks her to swing by their 'room' so she can work off her tension after her test today. Ashlee surprises him and asks him if he has a hot date. She begins probing him for details about his new lady friend. He says that she is different and what they have can never be serious. Ashlee doesn't think he knows how to have a non-serious relationship.

Beth arrives in Coop's room at The Beacon. She tells him she won't stay; things are getting too complicated now that her mother knows about her affair. He tells her that they aren't in high school anymore so that doesn't matter. She worries about Alan and tries to leave. Although she keeps repeating that she has to go, she sits down and begins kissing him. After they sleep together, she tells him that it's over. The real Alan is back and that's who she has been waiting for.

At Company, Coop suddenly admits to Buzz that he's the one who Beth's been sleeping with.

Old and Ornery.

Wednesday, November 26 2008

Mallet finds Marina sitting on the porch. She's not thrilled that they are holding Thanksgiving for the 'stragglers'. He begs her to come inside and help him cook. She brushes him off. He imagines she's angry because he's publicly told her that he loves her twice. Once with a gun pointed at him and the second time while drunk on ouzo. She tells him he can prove he loves her by not lighting the house on fire. They hear something blow up and rush inside. Rushing in, they find Frank and Coop arguing about cornmeal. Marina begins taking over. They're all surprised that the turkey she bought is so small. Coop thanks Daisy for not bringing Grady. Frank echoes the sentiment. Annoyed, she threatens to call him.

The family set the table. The toilet clogs. Marina and Mallet bicker and Frank teases her, suggesting that she would never get married without them around. She insists that she has a private life that doesn't include them. Rick arrives. Marina's startled that he didn't bring anything. Moments later, she discovers that Daisy has thrown away the dinner rolls because they are all hard as rocks. Coop asks for snacks. The cheese is moldy. Buzz arrives and tells her that everyone looks happy. "That's because they think food is coming," she says.

Buying the Cow.

Monday, November 24 2008

Coop gets a text from Beth. She wants to meet him and asks for a delivery. He sends her a message back and walks into Company. Buzz hands him a bag to deliver. He looks inside and sees it is not Beth's order. Nervous, he asks if there are any other orders. There aren't. He runs off to deliver just as Beth calls in. She uses a fake accent and name to order food. Lyn, the waitress, sends Buzz off with the order. Frank arrives. He and Lyn discuss the food drive and how V8 is a whole serving of vegetables.

As Buzz walks out, Coop looms in the hall. He goes in to see Beth. She packs up her things. He asks her to stay. She warns him that Alan is back with a vengeance and back to what she loved him for. Coop asks them if they are really finished; they've hardly even been having an affair. "How do you end something that doesn't exist?" he asks. Before she can leave, he tells her that they shouldn't waste the room. She tells him that what they have does exist but they can end it. He doesn't see why, but if she needs to, then he accepts that. He hands her the key to the room just in case she decides to come back. She walks out.
