Guiding Light - MESSAGE BOARDS

The Neilson ratings were established back in the 50's when there were 'x' amount of tv's and a home usually only had one. They believe that for every box they have hooked up at least 385,000 - 500,000 people are watching the same show. Now with DVR's, TIVO's, tape players and even i-Pod's, we can watch whenever we want to and I could be watching one soap in the living room while my daughter could be watching another in her bedroom. I don't believe Guilding LIght is at the bottom. There are others that are far worse.

i agree...i don't think guiding light is going anywhere. i watch all of the cbs soaps and guiding light is the MUST WATCH out of all of them. if it has a low rating it is because those that don't watch have never given it a chance!!!! Guiding Light is hands down the best soap!

I think GL is on air opposite GH on another channel. I think that is the problem. People who have been watching GH for years can't get interested in another SOAP. But GL is by far the best. I watch mostly CBS, and I had lost interest in Y & R years ago, and never really liked Bold & Beautiful. And those are the two that are right up there. Can't figure it out. Everybody should have the same interests as me....chuckle, chuckle.

I have been watching gl for a vey long time, I think that the problem is that it is shown here at 10:am and in other markets it has competion with gh at 3:00 pm. I wish there was a chance that they could put it behind y&r for one week and see if the ratings would go up.Put B& B in the morning slot and see if they can still keep the ratings. I bet you Gl would go up and B&b would go down. Its just a shame that the networks dont fight to keep the longer shows on the air.

I have to agree with this... its by far my favorite soap

GL is one of the best, I have watched and tried to watch several other soaps through the years but GL is the only tried and true Favorite hands down. I would think with all the technology we know have they could come up with a better system of tracking, and upgrade the rating system.

Ratings are antiquated and are largely discredited. GL might have the "worst" ratings at face value but GL is the only CBS soap that isn't shown in an afternoon bloc nationwide. Many showings around the country of GL are in the morning, when gameshows used to rule the landscape. Y&R, B&B and ATWT have the luxury of always being shown together each and every day and having those time slots essentially since they began running. Another thing, we all watch our soaps in different ways now. I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed that I can view GL every day on the at CBS.com. I normally watch first thing when I get home from work, but sometimes I'll watch at my computer at work. Watching on a computer, a Ipod and Tivo do not help ratings.

GL is the best soap. Y&R sucks! B&B sucks! ATWT...ummm....I know nothing about that show. GL might not be at its personal best, but it's the best on television at this moment.
