Springfield is in close proximity to Chicago which has lake Michigan as it's eastern border, and there are beatiful beaches on Lake Michigan. Just an FYI

Justin and Jackie were married, and she was coming to surprise him and tell him she was pregnant. She caught him sleeping with another woman(the mom from poltergeist) I can't remember her name on the show I think it was Brandi. Anyway Jackie left Justin without telling him she was pregnant. She had Phillip at the same hospital where Elizabeth had a stillborn son, so Alan pretty much bought Phillip as a replacement. Elizabeth didn't find out til years later. Hope this helps.
