^^ There is a post that says a good death for Alan. I believe that is what merrymary is talking about. A lot of people want to remain spoil free for these last couple of days. That thread kind of hangs it all out there for people to see. I'm sorry for those fans who did not want to be spoiled.

I was sobbing as well when the show ended today. I have come to absolutely adore Alan over the last couple of years. Ron Raines' acting made me fall for Alan. Alan is one of those love to hate characters for me. There are times I wanted to strangle him but other times I just wanted to hug him because he was so misunderstood. What a powerful moment with the water. They could have not chosen a better spot. Grant knocked it out of the water today when Phillip found Alan. I was sobbing right along with him. Today it hit me that GL was gone. The cancellation news has been with us all for a bit. I was numb I guess to it but today with Alan's death, it just shook me to the core. I'm going to lose a show I have loved for 26 years. It just breaks my heart. The last couple of months GL has shown stellar writing and acting. These are all episodes to treasure.

You are very correct about this thread that merrrymary started..............BUT the first one that we all read was "A good Death for Alan" and it says no where that it is a spoiler...........thus all the fuss. It is all cool now that we have gotten over the shock of reading it first thing...it was very upsetting and I know you are a GL fan so you can understand....but it is cool

Either way, the cast are all so talented, it will be worth every minute watching it! As I said(well wrote)before, I love to hate Alan; I hate to love Alan. Ron Raines has brought so many layers to Alan. I will really miss his smile!

I kinda thought they might let it end this way, however that didn't make it any less sad. Grant Alexsander did an excellent job at the park bench. He should win an award for it!!!!! I couldn't believe it and said,"Oh No" to which my husband wanted to know what I was upset about. I am sorry some of you read this topic before you saw the episode.

I am so glad that Alan's character went out as a hero and with such grace and dignity.Ron Raines did a superb job of acting.Bravo Ron!!!Well done.

Ron Raines did such a superb job of portraying Alan Spaulding. He gave alot of depth to that complex and multi-faceted character. The death scene was well executed and touching.Again bravo Ron Raines! We love you.

I started watching this show back in 1979. I was 9 years old. Alan and Hope stranded on the island sucked me in that summer, and I watched Alan over the years. He had moments of redemption, but he would always go back to his old self. But this time, I knew it had stuck, and he was going to be a good person. Given the nature of the character, I will be pretty upset if Alan-Michael, Amanda and others don't come to the funeral. But they won't, and I'll just have to accept that.

No matter who played Alan, he was a mesmerizing character. My favorite moments were when Roger came back, when Phillip found out Alan wasn't his father, and probably when Alan finally made his big change, when he was talking to Phillip's grave last week. I knew when Phillip went to talk to him that he was dead. No "Hi Son" or acknowledgement or anything. Grant's acting was excellent, and I have waited for him to bring that out since he came back in February.

The show was going to go no matter what any of us did or said, and even though the camera work sucks, it's the characters that kept us coming back for more. And all of them have done a fantastic job in the past month.

to me it seem that alan kinda knew he would die.He made peace with everyone.the only thing i felt they should have done a little diffrent was most people don't pass sitting straight up head held high and when phillip shook him he stayed up right.

Stunning ending. Loved Grants work today, so happy over the scene with him and Beth on the beach. Hope Alan's fate doesn't interrupt their plans. Wow, everyone likes Alan now and this happens, wow. At least Alan was happy in the end.

Glad that Phillip got to meet Sarah, and loved Beth's hesitant to say Grandma.

OMG!! This is not what I wanted, but the talent of the cast of GL was catapult into a new universe today. I was crying like a baby, from the moment the show started until end. I always knew GL had some of the best actors around, but today something more was given to us. I have always felt that soap actors were very underrated and at times put down by other similar field, such as movies. The talent and love that each and every cast member put into their performance today was incredible to say the least. It is in rare fashion for someone to die onscreen due to “natural causes,” and with so many people over the years shooting at Alan and wanting to kill him, who would have thought?

That was also my first thought about how he was sitting, but then I thought, he went out just as he lived his life,
standing straight and looking a person right in the eye, whether he was really being nice to them or about to pull a fast one on them...Would have expected no less out of Alan Spaulding!! You are right he did make peace with everyone and none thrilled me more than Jonathan and Sarah..good show, very sad, but still good!!

Quote merrymary: I just want to say one thing about today's show. GET OUT YOUR KLENEEX !!!!

Are you talking about when they all toasted him, or when he died on the park bench looking out at the water?

Could I please ask you to stop writing about Alans death? As I said on the thread you started, I and many others do not want to read about it beforehand..........that is why the guidelines say you must put spoiler on it.....it spoils it for us that do not want to see it!! Every thread I pull up there it is, ruins it for me, been at this too many years to have it all ruined 4 days before the end. Thank you for your thoughts on it but I had rather not know beforehand, maybe that is just me!!

It says SPOILER-TUESDAY EPISODE ALAN IS A HERO! I think it is clear that if you don't want to know about the episode today, don't read this thread. It doesn't air here until 2pm CST either...and I guess never again after Friday. I for one am angry as hell with both CBS and P&G. Les Moonves, CBS, is a mean old man who cancels some of the greatest tv shows. He cares nothing for fans or viewers. He even cancelled Jericho, then brought it back for a few episodes to give the impression he listened to fans and gave it one more chance. He really did it because he knew the writers strike would leave nothing new on tv and needed filler. He had no intentions of keeping it on the air. Cancelling Guiding Light was unforgivable. How many tv shows have someone like me, third generation of a family, watching it on a regular basis? I watched it because my mother watched it and my grandmother before her listened to it on radio first and then tv later. It was a family show. P&G did not do a thing to try to sell it to a new network.

My "soap" box for today.

:-(

Once again... this is not the thread that I was talking about, there was an earlier one titled "A good death for Alan"............it just came right out and said it without spoiler anywhere...........I can tell you that I was not the only person upset.........go read the thread and you will see. I do know enough to not read it when it says spoiler, but the one that started the other thread did not know to put spoiler on it....when I wrote that on this one it was the second thread that it was being said on.....Many, many people were upset by it not being labeled spoiler, not just me. At least I was prepared for his death today. Oh by the way, the person that posted that he had died, did not know that it came on across the US at different time, that is why she posted it, honest mistake..
