Dear 'Guiding Light' Fans,

My condolences to the loss of your soap. As a fan of 'Santa Barbara' and 'Another World' I understand the sadness of losing a show that had been a staple in your life for a long period of time. I know for some it was enjoyed and facilitated a bonding experience between you and fellow family members or simply a form of entertainment that allowed you to escape real life for an hour of the day. I have a number of friends who are GL fans and they're all truly heart broken. It leaves you to wonder if production could have prevented it from coming to this point or if there was anything more you as a fan could have done. It always amazes me how soaps can allow their characters to become so unrecognizable and allow the stories to get so far away from the core of what the show is supposed to be about.

I never had the true pleasure of watching GL. I live on the East Coast and it comes on at 10am here, although I was able to finally watch this past year so I've had a small glimpse of the characters and families. The montage that played at the Daytime Emmy's was very moving and had me in tears, further making me wish all the more that I was able to watch the show sooner.

I hope that you all cherish the beautiful memories that GL provided you with over the years and that you'll continue to support CBS Daytime. It would truly be a shame if another soap in the CBS Family faltered.

Best wishes to all,

Lore
Fellow CBS Soap Fan

Thank you for your condolences. Yes, we the fans are in a a state of grieving this loss. To some it many seem silly, but to us, we are losing something we have loved for so many years. We have made friends with the characters and have really involved ourselves into their make believe world. It is a form of escapism, and we have loved it! I will watch another soap on CBS, The Young and the Restless. I have watched this soap since the beginning and will continue to watch it. I won't condemn CBS for taking it off of us but, ratings have told the tale. We, the loyal fans have tried our best to convince the network to keep it on, but, to no avail. It was a business decision, and we were overruled! I, too watched Santa Barbara and loved that soap. Yes, we will get through this with all the loyal fans out here. We will grieve for awhile, but, this is being human to grieve the loss of a loved one. The GL was a soap love for all of us. This was a respectful post for all the GL fans. We, are FAM-I-LY !!!!!

Bravo, both posts wonderfully said and balm for our hearts. It takes a GL fan to know the pain we are all feeling, and I will never feel "silly' for mourning something that brought me so much pleasure during my lifetime. It's a part of me and will stay that way.

Thanks PP, the GL has been a friend for so many years, as I have stated in my post. My BFF and I have watched this show for a lot of years and have always discussed the daily episodes. We talked about how we will miss chatting about it when it ends next week. The characters have become a part of our lives. Even, though we do have our own lives, we loved the make believe world of the GL. She feels the same way I do, we will grieve over the loss of the show. I know many of you feel the same way, just from reading all the posts lately.
