Quote meakkers: I can't agree with you more about Guiding Light getting the short end of the stick, I am so saddened to see this show end. Perhaps they should of tried a different time slot. I have watched this series as long as I can remember. Do you remember such characters as Rita Bauer, Eve and Ben, Kelly and Morgan, Lucinda Wexler, everything Roger Thorpe ever did and one of the best things that ever happened to Springfield the day Reva came to town. I remember everything Josh went thru with various women. I am so saddened and I cannot believe that they producers couldn't of figured out something to do, even make the show 1/2 hour long like originally when it started on TV. I am definately not looking forward to Friday, it will be a very sad day.

I agree with you...I do not believe they did enough to save this fine show. They could have changed time slots and made it into a half hour show until things turned around.
The other thing they were saying more women are working these days and can't view...well those working women do have means to record the show and watch the recordings when there is other garbage on that they don't want to watch!!!
I know this, because I have done that very thing for many years. Unfortunately, those recordings do not count towards the almighty ratings that they live and die by. The other thing is with all of us babyboomers getting ready to retire and having watched GL all this time...there is going to be a huge audience out there to watch before long.
Being close to retirement I really don't think I can handle a full day of Judge shows, talk shows, magazine shows, news shows, or game shows. I like an hour or two a day where I am not overwhelmed by a bunch of hogwash...a little escape to Springfield or Oakdale is really nice. Otherwise, I just turn the tube off because I cannot stand what the networks have done to daytime TV. Nightime is not much better! Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Quote Guidinglight_fan: i've been posting on here for about 2 years and i was just wondering why no one responds to my post or topics??!!??

when gl goes off i'd like to have someone to remmeber it with and if no one talks to me on here whats the point of posting???

Hey Guidinglight_fan. I'm not sure if you really wanted an answer or if you were just making an observation.

Well anyway I find that if I create a dialogue with a poster, usually the poster will continue to post, but if you do not respond to them direct, they don't always answer. Just my observation.

Another thing is to welcome someone when they say they are new to the board. Talk about general things and add a little humor. Please take my comment as a direct response to your question. I do not mean to come across as --- I don't even know the word. LOL (Oh I remember the word now--condescending)

I too (as many others) have wondered the same thing so you are not alone.

Now that the Guiding Light is ending, would you be interested in joining some of us on the Y&R Board?!

Quote Annefrank: Hi everyone, my name is Karen, I'm 48 & live in FL. Been watching GL since 1978 or probably a couple of years before that - hard to remember that far back, so I've been watching it about 30 yrs off & on. I cried my eyes out right before Thursday's show ended. I even sobbed. Don't know how I'll make it through next week. I'm thinking about taping it Friday (while watching, of course) then watching it in the privacy of my home while hubby works (I'm unemployed right now)so if I need to cry I can & nobody will see me. Whew, you know, it's RARE for me to go on these sites, write to magazines, etc., but it felt good just getting that out of my system.

I want to keep in touch with everyone too! How will we all get through next week????
I was going to do the same thing. I tape all of GL shows, I thought about getting out my old tapes and start watching them again. I've been a GL fan for 38 years. I laughed when I read you would tape and watch GL when your husband wasn't home - My husband and I are raising 5 boys - So during the summer time once in awhile one of my sons would walk in and catch me crying while I was watching GL and of course I would get laughed at or I would here - Mom's crying about a silly soap again. And today was no different they walked in right when Alan died and I was bawling. I don't post much but I do read the messages daily - Thank you everyone.
