Watching the previews for next weeks "farewell happens here" had me crying! I still can't believe GL has been canceled. I have watched this show since I was a little girl - with my Mom and my Grandmother. GL is so rich in history and so many have been life long viewers. With only 1 week left I am feeling so very sad! This has been "Guiding Light" ......

Yes, when it said "Farewell Happens Here", it was like putting the final nail in the coffin. Tears were already flowing from watching today's episode and continued as the previews showed for the Farewell Week. It is going to be a very sad day come Mon., Sept. 21 and there is no GL. While we are going to be sad, we have years of memories to share with each other. So, together as friends GL will go live on.

I have to admit..I'm a guy, and that got to me too. I got started back in the..geez..late 70's/early 80's with my mom. We were always big fans of Roger Thorpe. Though she stopped watching years ago, I was keeping her up to date, and had hoped to maybe watch the finale together, but I lost her a few weeks ago, so this has taken on so much more significance for me. The end of this show is sort of symbolic of so much more, as I'm sure it is for so many other people. Not sure what I'll watch come 9/21, but I'm pretty damn sure it won't be CBS!

rogerthrope,
So sorry to hear about your mom, it is so hard to lose our mama's. Make this next week a special one just for you and her, that would be fun memories......look at me, a big ole softie, my mom died almost 15 years ago and I miss her every single day..............now I am going to have to miss GL...............just not fair. Guess we all have good memories of listening to and watching Gl with our moms....pretty cool....

I agree merry i'm so sorry roger! I've watched Gl since i was 10 or 11 with my aunt. grandmother and mom everyday when everyone got home from work and school. During the summer i stay with my grandmother and look forward to watching Gl with her everyday, when she passed away when i was 15 i was heart broken..from then on when i watched Gl i thought of her and it brought warmth to my heart. it was like a habit i couldnt break. but now that Gl is gone i'm lossing that lil peice of her i had left. but i'll always have my memories...my mom recently started watching again and shes upset it's going off air..she kept telling me they'll change their minds!!! but like i told her i doubt it..the farwell week is going to be really hard for alot of us..i can;t believe its already here

Like you, I grew up watching GL with my Granny and my aunt while my mom was at work. It didn't matter what we were doing, come 3:00, we stopped what we were doing and watched GL. I am hoping that I get to watch the final episode with my aunt. GL ending is going to be hard for us, but we have alot of great friends on this board and we will all help each other.

I just about cry every time I hear the theme song "Only Love" I have the video saved from Youtube for the whole song, and I use it on my cell phone as my ring tone.

I know what you mean. I had my husband down load it to my mp3 player and now I can't even listen to it because it makes me cry.

I feel good about the happy endings that the writers seem to be leading us to for the finale. The loyal fans deserve that much.I just hope they do not throw anything weird in there at the end.Such as the residents of Springfield all just being characters in Coops last book.Or a beloved character getting sick and dying unexpectedly.Or some stupid "It was all a dream" scenario ala Dallas.Ugh!!Hope they do not go there.I hope they leave us with some happy memories of our beloved characters.

I can't take this...I grew up with this show. My heart is breaking. The farewell week previews got me crying too.
So I'm new here, not the greatest time to be the new girl..but I want to keep guiding light in my life, and figured this is a good way to help.

I am pretty new myself and have found all the posters to be a big help. We will all stick around and continue to post, so hang around and join us. I mostly read but love to throw my opinion out ever so often..just cannot believe that in 6 minutes if it weren't for tennis I would be watching my favorite soap of all times.......think that I will have a moment of silence at 2pm!!!!
