Guiding Light - MESSAGE BOARDS

I began watching GL in the early 80's.Just as Reva Shayne Lewis came on the scene to be exact.I loved Kim Zimmers portrayal of a strong,boistrous,out there woman.Her relationship with Josh in the beginning was magical.The chemistry between the two actors was fun to watch.Their history together was charming.They were unpredictable and full of life.HB Lewis,Sarah and Hawk added dimension to the characters and fleshed out the storyline.

I loved watching the Bauer family too.Especially Maureen Bauer who I could identify with.Her troubled but loving relationship with Ed Bauer had a smack of realism to it.When they killed off her character in a car crash it was a sad day.Bert Bauer was still a part of the show at that time.She was the kind matriarch of the family.Doling out advice and baked goods.The relationship between Rick Bauer and Phillip Spaulding was classic.I sympathized with Rick the loyal and long suffering friend of the troubled Phillip.I rooted for Phillip and Beth to overcome their troubled families and be together.I wish that they had allowed the Beth Raines character to mature alittle more beyond the high school years.She has seemed to stay stuck dependent on difficult and sometimes volatile men.Alan was a formitable villian.As was Roger Thorpe and Annie.I am so glad that as the story comes to a close they are attempting to explain why Alan is the way he is and what motivates his controlling behavior.

In the mid to late 80's-early 90's I stopped watching GL.The fantastical story lines were hard to follow or make sense of.The real life drama seemed to be phased out of the writing for the most part.Instead we got storylines about mythical islands and Reva disappearing into a portrait.When they cloned Reva that was it for me.I stopped watching almost altogether.Where were the gripping real life dramas I had always enjoyed so much?I still tuned in occasionally just to see where my favorite characters were at.I was deeply saddened by where they had taken the character of Phillip.They had turned him from a sweet(if spoiled) young man into a kidnapping psychopath who had gone insane.Then his character went away altogether.I laughed pretty hard when I realized that Alan and Reva were in an Amish community of all things.I could not imagine either of them as Amish in my wildest dreams.I rarely tuned in.

A few years ago when it was announced that the character of Reva had cancer and was about to die I tuned in again.I'm glad I did.As it turns out Reva survived her bout with cancer but GL as a show would not.

This show has been a touchstone for various periods of my life.I can tell you where I was when Reva and Josh remarried in their beautiful cross creek wedding.When Josh realized that Marah was his daughter.When Maureen Bauer died.When Billy and Vanessa broke up.I can tell you where I was when Dinah shot Hart at the farm and many other events.

It is sad to say goodbye to our favorite characters.I wish them all a happy ending.Thanks for listening.

Hi Terror, I loved reading your post. We all seem to relate to the GL stories. There have been so many good ones through the years. Beth and Phillip were and still are one of my favorite couples. I'm glad we at least get to see them back together sharing this heartbreaking story. I am like you as recalling what you were doing during some of the storylines. So many wonderful memories of this great soap will remain with all of the loyal fans.

ed.that's when i began to watch it.and Rodger and his family where on it and Rodger was holding holly hostage and there where on some island together s and there was a big chase scene trying to save holly and Rodger was hanging over a side of a cliff and mike Bauer was leading the chase to save holly from Rodger then Rodger had gone over a cliff becuse he didn't want to go to jail so Rodger let go and drop and they save holly, i always like that roger what did he do now holly mother would say what did Rodger do now i always like that Rodger
