Christmas Holly Norris, Bauer, Thorpe, Reade....Recipe.
30 marshmallows (large)
1/2 cup butter
green food coloring
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4-1/2 cup corn flakes
cinnamon red hots
Microwave marshmallows, butter, and food coloring on 1/2 power 2 minutes, or until melted.
Add vanilla and mix thoroughly.
Fold in corn flakes of granola until they are covered with cooked mixture.
Form into holly shape on waxed paper.
Add candy for berries while still warm.
Once candy cools, candy will not adhere.
Tie on a red ribbon and serve.

I did this when I was in first grade. We used a portable stove top as microwaves were not owned by to many people in those days. It was out in the country, still had party lines too!!

You would think they would have done some of this cooking during the BBQ and weddings they have had recently.

Phillip Spaulding's Seven Layer Bars. Some of his wives were a little flaky like the coconuts. Some were as sweet as condensed milk. Some were more nutty then the walnuts.
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/3 cups shredded coconut
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
Place butter in 13 x 9 inch pan and melt in oven. Swirl to coat bottom and sides with butter.
Spread crumbs evenly over bottom of pan. Layer chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, and nuts over crumbs. Pour condensed milk over nuts. Sprinkle coconut over condensed milk.
Bake until edges are golden brown, about 25 minutes. Let cool.

This recipe is in honor of Uncle Stavros. It is a Greek recipe. Much like the Coopers, it has a lot of layers and kind of difficult---but good!! I remember when Harley and Alan-Michael were making and selling Baklava—love the stuff, but my hips hate it!! This was back in the 80’s when Harley wore those really big earrings.
Galatoboureko:
4 C. milk
2 C. heavy or whipping cream
½ cup plus 1 tablespoon of quick enriched farina
(Farina is Cream of Wheat)
½ Cup of sugar
6 eggs
1 Tablespoon vanilla
½ pound phyllo
¾ cup butter/margarine melted
Syrup Mixture:
In sauce pan, over medium heat, heat ¾ cup of sugar and 1/3 cup of water to boiling, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 8 minutes or until the syrup is thickened and then stir in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.
Grease a 13x9 baking pan. In a large saucepan, over medium to high heat, heat milk and heavy cream just until boiling. In a small bowl, mix together the farina and sugar: gradually sprinkle into milk and cream, stirring with a wire whisk or spoon. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to medium-low , but continue cooking and stir constantly until the mixture is slightly thickened---5 to 10 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat. In a large bowl, with a mixer on high speed, beat the egg yolks with the vanilla—blend well. Reduce speed to medium and gradually beat in the faina mixture to blend well. Preheat oven to 375. In baking pan, place 1 sheet of phyllo, allowing it to extend up the sides of the pan: brush with butter/margarine. Repeat to make about 5 more layers: Pour the farina and egg-yolk mixture into the phyllo lined baking pan. Cut remaining phyllo into approximately 13X9 rectangles. Place one sheet of phyllo on farina mixture, brush with butter/margarine. Repeat w/ remaining phyllo and butter(if need to, overlap small strips of phyllo to make rectangles). With a sharp knife, cut the top phyllo layer into 2 ¼ inch squares. Bake 35 minutes or until top is golden brown and puffy. Pour hot lemon flavored syrup over the top. Let Galatoboureko cool on wire rack for at least an hour. To serve, cut through the layers. May be served warm or cold.

Someone suggested that I move this here.

This is a recipe that Michael O'Leary (Rick) sent out several years ago.

The Bauer Burger

1. "Get 2 pounds of ground sirloin, then mix in some garlic, pepper, salt and 3 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce."

2. "Make a whole bunch of real thin hamburger patties."

3. "Chop up some onion and put it on top of the first patty. Then put a slice of American or mozzarella cheese on top. Then grill some mushrooms and put them on top of the cheese. Then cover the whole thing with another patty."

4. "Using a fork, work the edges of the patties until they're sutured
together. Please note my use of the medical term 'suture.' Thank you."

5. "Barbecue the double patties over a low flame. That takes a little
longer, but it's worth it. They're fabulous."

Rosie's Butterfinger Bars(Ok, I put me into this. The crust like part of this stuff kind of crumbles. Right now I am crumbling---I cannot believe this is the last week of GL). I plan on making this this Friday(9-18-09) and eating the whole dang thing!!! So, you might get a receipe for Rosie's Big Buttroast next!!

1 Cup brown sugar
1/2 Cup white sugar
1 Cup margarine(soften)
4Cups oatmeal
1pkg. chocolate chips
3/4 Cup peanut butter.
Mix all together, except for the chocolate chips and peanut butter. Press in a buttered pan(13x9). Bake 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees. Let it cool then melt the chocolate chips and mix in the peanut butter. Spread over the top and let cool. Then cut and eat! Kind of messy, but it is a good to eat!
