Hey everyone I just wanted to get some imput on the topic: Down Fall Of Guiding Light. When do you think the show began to go down hill? For me the show started declining in ratings around 1995 when head writer Nancy Curlee( head writer of GL's Golden Era 1989-94) left the show. Storylines that she created such as Roger/Holly reunion ended. After a year and a half of living with/wanting to marry Roger, Holly suddenly loathed him and wanted to cut all ties with him and marry Fletcher. Then of course there was the transgender serial killer Marian Crane, Reva's return as a ghost to haunt Josh and Annie in thier dreams was riduculous. With Kim Zimmer coming back the show resumed with being THE REVA SHAYNE HOUR. Dont get me wrong I admire and adore Zimmer as an actress and I don't blame her for the bad ratings, but when she came back all those actors who were front and center (Ed, Ross, Blake, Roger, Holly, Vanessa, Bridget) between 1990 and 1994 were pushed to the side lines and I blame tptb for that. I have watched the show since I was 9 and I seen and been through almost all the reva adventures starting with the Reva madaam Of springfield, Postpartum Reva, Amish Reva, Ghost Reva, Reva in a red dress singing and my all time favorite the Reva Clone!!( being sarcastic). I stopped watching the show after the clone storyline wrapped up and then decided to give it a chance a year later and only to see the show went from bad to worse. Reva was going through some paintings. I was not intrigued by the San Cristobel fairytale, santos mob( loved Manny and Tony) and didn't like the idea of the writers turning Holly into a cartoon and having her kidnap children. 1997 the show got better with the Reva and Annie Trial along with the Abigal Blume rape trial, but then by 1998 the show lost its way again. Several actors were leaving or getting axed from the show such as Cythia Watros(Annie) and Michael Zaslow (roger). The show at this point went from being about family, romance, and addressing social issues that we the audience could relate to, along with family tradition to something that didn't even resemble what GL stood for, such as outlandish sci fi plots as cloning. I forgot to add the downsizing of the Bauer Family and history rewrites. I didn't watch the show after 2000. so I don't know what storylines took place after that. I really hope GL gets picked up by another network, but tptb need to really make some changes such as new writers who are creative and have a deep understanding and appreciation for GL's history. New Executive producer, beautiful sets, go back to filming the old way. P&G has the resoures to to this and they need to put it all to good use. Looking forward to your opinons and feedback. Peace
