Robert Newman, star of “Guiding Light” and a two-time Daytime Emmy nominee for his longtime work on “Guiding Light,” will join the cast of SESSIONS beginning Friday, May 29th. SESSIONS, directed by Thomas Coté, is now playing off-Broadway at the Algonquin Theater (123 East 24th Street). Albert M. Tapper (From Where I Stand, Broadway: The Golden Age) pens this candid and witty new musical about the everyday life of a New York therapist and his patients.

Robert Newman has earned legions of fans with his portrayal of Joshua Lewis on “Guiding Light.” Robert first appeared on the CBS daytime drama in 1981 and has been playing his role for the 28 years since. He has been nominated for two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his work in the series. Newman has worked extensively in the theater world, playing roles in The Robber Bridegroom, Guys and Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, and The Fantasticks, Veronica's Room, Titus Andronicus, The Owl and the Pussycat, Medea and The Rainmaker. He recently performed at North Shore Music Theater in Beverly, Mass as Guido Contini in Nine, and at Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera as Carl Magnus in A Little Night Music and as Harold in The Full Monty. He was seen off-Broadway at the Orpheum Theater in Quiet on the Set and in Betty the Yeti at Stamford Theatreworks in Stamford, CT.

In SESSIONS, a New York therapist is challenged to balance his patients’ needs with his own- all while fending off advances from one very enticing female subject. His experiences remind us that even those we look to for guidance can be as vulnerable as we are.

The playing schedule for SESSIONS is Wednesday-Saturday at 8pm with 3pm matinees on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. Due to the “Guiding Light” shooting schedule, the role of Dr. Peterson will be played by Dennis Holland on Wednesday matinees. All seats are $50 and are available by visiting www.smarttix.com or by calling 212-868-4444. Senior and student discount tickets are available for $20.

oops! I forgot to add that Mr. Newman won't be performing in the Wednesday matinee performances, due to the GL shooting schedule. His role in "Sessions," Dr. Peterson, will be played by Dennis Holland for these shows.
