I'm watching GL from a few weeks ago. (When they went to Florida) Why is/was Susan/Daisy so uptight towards James and the Spaulding clan? I heard she shot Alan? When and why?
Why doesn't Alan like/trust Bill? Why doesn't he want them to marry? (Bill and Lizzy)

The Spauldings and the Coopers have always had issues. Buzz and Alan just plain do not like each other and don't want to see the families joined.

Daisy hates Alan because she thinks he chased Grady away. Also they blame him for Coops death. Alan does hates the coopers but he also hates the Lewis' which is why he doesnt want Lizzie to marry Bill. Alan and the Lewis men have been fighting over women and business forever.

Also, Alan hated Harley because she married all his sons at one time or another: Alan-Michael, Phillip, and Gus. He, of course, thought that she-and none of the other Coopers-were good enough for the Spauldings. Not to mention the fact that he was completely humiliated and outraged when he found out that Beth and Coop were having an affair. He was blackmailing Beth into marrying him. In true Alan style, he called Coop on his cell to taunt him about marrying Beth. Coop was already upset and racing to the church to stop the nuptials and the call pushed him over the edge and caused his horrific car crash that ultimately led to his demise. Buzz, of course, bitterly blames Alan for Coop's death but also himself b/c he urged Coop to fight for Beth and even lent him his car so he could stop the wedding at the 11th hour. That distinction of course went to Phillip, whose appearance at the church caused the bride to faint dead away. But I digress. The Cooper/Spaulding feud goes back at least twenty years.
