Guiding Light - MESSAGE BOARDS

I had to be about 13 or 14 years old when I first noticed the Guiding Light, though I had long seen bits and pieces of the drama before. Prior to this moment I had never watched a full episode of any soap opera and thought that they were somewhat melodramatic and not to memtion for "sissies". It was the day of the infamous "Fountain" scene. The one where Reva jumps in and baptizes herself the sl%$ of the town. Whoa!!! Kim Zimmer's performance was ridiculous (in a damn good way.) I had been along my mother's side as the television play that day.... In jumped this woman in a fountain that set off my mom's scream, "You tell em' Reva! Im tired of them Lewis boys treating you thata way! Good for you! Anxiously I asked- Who is the Lewis boys! She silenced me with a quick shhh and remained captivated with and through Kim's performance. It was absolutely incredible and I wanted to learn more about this Reva and this place called Springfield. Little did I know that this would be the "HeyDays" of the show and neither did I know that I would become a die-hard fan as the show would become more than just a piece of my life. It has in many ways become my life.
The 80's was Amazing and did not Pamela K. Long kill us with curiosity and spin marvelous storylines Monday through Friday! The stories were utterly believable. Pam, in my opinion, told stories that kept the audience tuned in and to be honest she was the only writer on Guiding Light since who understands the character of Reva! Pam Long KNEW Reva and when she left Guiding Light she may as well have taken the character of Reva with her. Let's look at all the failed storylines involving Reva since...(Dolly The Clone, Reva Amish, Reva Back In time - I LITERALLY SCREAMED AT MY TV one day "YOU CAN NOT HAVE KIM ZIMMER CLIMBING THROUGH PAINTINGS".
Well..... through the transitions, the Executive Producers and their "visions"..... we have watched Guiding Light. And slowly it's wrinkles began to show.
Here's a couple of notes and comparison's for your consideration.
*The Bauer family should have always stayed front and center. This from the beginning was the core family! There should have always been a house full of Bauer's running around. Ed, Rick, Michelle, Mike, Hope, and yes Maureen! If Reva, Phillip, and Alan can be ressurected so should have Maureen! Ellen Im disappointed.
* Oh how I loved Michael Zaslow!!! May he Rest in Peace....Oh he was the best...SIMPLY JUST AN HONOR TO HAVE HIM ON MY TV SCREEN.... No one could ever fill his shoes as Roger Thorpe.... and so on..... BUT!!! Who said anyone had to.... I was sure hoping Ellen Wheeler was going to beg a favor of Charles Keating from Another World. I do just believe that his twist on Roger Thorpe would have been effortless and nothing short of brillance. I NEVER was a fan of Another World but Ive seen enough to know- (Google Him yourself.) Roger's return could have too been the return of Ross's. What if Roger had been the reason that Ross hadnt returned to Springfield. Somehow he had been holding Ross against his will. More of Chrissy's father involved in her life. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! And here I sit typing and have not mentioned Maureen Garrett and her portrayal of "Holly" ... it was a poor shame how that lady just disappeared from Springfield. She went from being known as the lady that kidnapped all those kids that time to where'd she go without a mention.
*The sound, the hand held camera's- Peakscot, Peaksville or Where erver it is- It didnt work! I mean the footage of the land and the scenery was just amazing... The shot of the lakes and the trees just leave you........well BLANK because while the footage is pretty the characters were suffering! Thanx Paul Rauch, John Conboy, Ellen Wheeler, David Kriezman, and the masterminds behind the characters and the storylines of Rafe, Ashlee, Marina, Grady, Cyrus- they were trully a bore.

You want a good story line BRING BACK ROXIE!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I wanted to read a novel, I would get a good book......

I loved Roxie, Claire and Kyle... Maeve and Miss Sally were ok too.

Wouldn't it be nice if Phillip ran into Rox in the madhouse! BRING HER BACK - but ONLY if Kristi Ferrell plays her!

I am not the one making a big deal of it. It was a joke. Besides, you insulted me first, so get a grip yourself, sweetheart! I will take the award, thank you, it says:

...and it won't shut me up, so I guess you will have to get over that too!

Hi Dimlights, Thank you for your great post. It took many loyal fans down memory lane again. BTW, I loved Claire Ramsey !! I enjoyed reading every word. You brightened up my day with your post. No Otalia, just good memories.

WOW!!!! What an awesome post! You are so right, the 80's were the best ever of GL!!!! I certianly remember the water fall "sl**& of Spring Field" scene! GREAT story writing back then! Those were my days too!

Too bad some people on here can't just get along. I saw the joke in it Sassy! No worries! But Dimlights, I'm disappointed that you ended such a great post with such harsh words. Really some of the things you said were not called for.

So that being said, please people, think before you type. I personally can't stand this Otalia thing for my own reasons, but won't post them because of responses i would undoubtably get.

Dimlights - I enjoyed your post. I remembered all the scenes you mentioned and the "Reva in the Fountain" was my favorite. I've been and still am a Josh & Reva fan for many, many years now. Thanks for the good memories.

Alright seriously what is your problem. It was a joke that Sassy made! You dont have to go insulting her telling her she is an old drunk. You have insulted her far worse than she has insulted you. You dont need to be rude and say she should get an award to shut her up because everyone is entitled to an opinion. You owe Sassy an apology.

So very excited that most of you enjoyed the post and as much as it brightened your day reading it MerryMary, writing it created far more of a shine in my day.... Again, so joyful that you enjoyed it. The post was just a snipit of "My Guiding Light" experience as I will continue to create future post very similar to this. Lol!
Hi xxEmxx. I dont think you and I have ever crossed paths on the board before....and with that said I immediately "loved" you! I hadnt been scolded like that since I was a young child. Sass, if you will- April 1st had to be one of -if not the most disappointing Day in my life. CBS drops Guiding Light crawled across CNN's local news show. Those characters really do feel like my family. I have spent an hour five days a week for the last 15 years with these people you have to realize I have really been a lil "aggressive" about losing the show as well as dissapointed in regards to the reasoning in which Guiding Light was canceled. So last night, I sat and collected the memories from the precious 80's and shared them with you. I hoped to get responses from fan's whom were fascinated with or were familiar with the era that I was writing about. AShiraz apparently knows the 80's. I was pleasantly surprised in AShiraz's post to read that she/he were only interested in Kristi Ferrell playing Roxie Shayne. Well I second that AShiraz! Krista and Kim made me KNOW that they were sister's. Their chemistry was incredible.... very similar and could very well rival Kim's chemistry with Laura Wright (Cassie 1).
I would have loved to see Kim, Kristi and Laura in scenes together..... And didn't you love that Southern Twang in Krista's voice. I always imagined that's how you talked if you were from Tulsa. Brilliant Actress. Now she DESERVED an award!

I do.... From the bottom of my heart. I apologize. I realize I did Fly off the handle. The characterization of you was uneccessary and brutally judgemental. I am delighted that it was wrong and that you are truly a proffessional! Good deal. I am so sorry... I did not intend for my post to appear, seem, or feel like a book or chapters of a book. I did get the joke! If Im correct you were "joshing" about the length of the post. With respect, when the memories start flooding, I can stop them.... quite frankly, I dont wanna... I have enjoyed this ride with Guiding Light and I hope you have as well.
