Spinelli and Maxie celebrate their non-wedding at Jake’s, Dominic consoles Lulu, Johnny professes his love for Olivia, Kate makes an entrance and the karaoke machine is back!
As shock washes over the wedding guests, Spinelli tells Maxie this is the wrong time for her to get married. To prove his love is deep and true and not bound by society's rules, he vows to not become her husband. Maxie beams as he begs her to not become his wife. Mac smiles and falls to the floor. Patrick and Robin check on Mac, and Robin says she thinks he has passed out in relief. Mac wakes up and says he never felt better. Maxie tells Spinelli he made her believe in herself. She loves him more than anything and wants to spend the rest of her life with him. She wants to marry him, just not right now. Mac exclaims, “Thank you God!” Maxie continues to tell Spinelli he will always be her essential person and Father Coates pronounces them ‘not’ man and wife and they kiss.
Spinelli tells the crowd they are having their non-reception at Jake’s and Robin stops them from leaving so they can still indulge in some of the wedding traditions. She gives everyone the birdseed bundles to throw at the unmarried couple as they walk through.
Outside, Spinelli and Maxie go to the car and Maxie tells him how much she loves him and she wants to be with him. Milo comes up to the limo to drive them to Jake’s and they get in the backseat and make out.
Still at Rice Manor, Dominic asks Lulu where Maxie’s boss is. Lulu assures him she won’t be at the reception and he finagles a ride to Jake’s from her.
Olivia wants to take Johnny home, but he wants to celebrate with Maxie and Spinelli and says they are going to Jake’s.
Jason takes off his pink tie and Sam asks him if he is hiding from her. He puts the tie around her neck and kisses her. He says he was just waiting out the crowd. She asks if he wants company and they smooch again. As Jason ties the pink tie on her, Sam asks Jason how he convinced Spinelli to not marry Maxie. He says he was as surprised as she was, but he told him to follow his heart. Sam says as long as they follow their hearts, they can’t go wrong and they lock lips once again.
Carly and Jax walk into Jake’s with Morgan, Molly and Kristina noting the kids are allowed in there because the bar is closed for a private party.
Coleman stops Ethan from pouring himself a drink because he is crashing the party. Lulu walks up and says he is with her so Coleman allows him to stay. Molly, Kristina and Morgan note Ethan has a deck of cards and ask him to teach them how to play poker. They sit down and Ethan goes over the finer points of a good con. Alexis enters the party and notices Ethan teaching her kids how to cheat at cards. A jovial Mac comes by and tells Alexis she needs to celebrate.
Patrick and Robin bask in their own love and see a drunk Mac dancing with a reluctant Alexis. Robin has never seen Mac so happy and Patrick says he’s never seen Alexis so mad.
Molly sees Kristina talking to Ethan and pulls her away saying Kiefer would be mad. Molly worries because she told Kiefer where the reception was, so he could show up. Kristina isn't worried and goes back to talking to Ethan. Alexis walks up, as does Sam and the Davis girls go to talk, much to Kristina’s irritation.
Once Maxie and Spinelli come to their party, Lulu tells them it’s picture time and pulls them away from Olivia and Johnny. After they walk away, Johnny tells Olivia he loves her, as Dante overhears.
Jason and Carly go for a walk outside and Carly says she still thinks about her times with him at Jake’s. She was a different person back then, but he’s always been her constant. He says that makes him very lucky and they hug.
Patrick notices Robin and Coleman plotting something, but she won’t tell him what’s going on.
Johnny sees Kate walk in and Olivia panics. She looks at Dante and he takes note of his cousin. He tells Lulu he has to take care of something and leaves. Kate approaches Lulu and then sees Maxie who tells her they didn’t get married. Kate is very happy for her and when it does happen, Kate will make sure it is perfect. She also tells her protégé, just because she couldn't have it all doesn’t mean Maxie shouldn’t try.
Robin gets on stage and says it’s time for the toasts. Jason and Lulu don’t look thrilled, but Lulu goes first and thanks the couple for showing them what love is. Spinelli goes to Jason and asks him to give a speech as well. Lulu gives Jason the mic and he freezes so Morgan takes the stage and extols how awesome Maxie and Spinelli are. He says, “Here’s to them for working it all out and here’s to everyone saying what they really want instead of messing up their whole lives by lying and covering it all up.” Morgan gets off the stage and Spinelli tells Jason he loves him and hugs him.
Olivia meets Dante out in the alley and panics that Kate will recognize him. Dante doesn’t think she will since the last time she saw him was when he was eight years old. He changes the conversation to warn her about Johnny. Olivia says it’s not her life that's in danger, it’s his and goes back inside.
Maxie and Spinelli prepare to cut their fancy cake courtesy of Kate, who didn’t realize the reception would be at Jake’s. Coleman flirts with Kate and then conspires with Robin again. Patrick wants to know what’s going on, but Robin still won’t tell.
Olivia returns to Johnny and tells him she was flattered by what he said and a little overwhelmed. She’s also relieved because she’s in love with him too.
Lulu finds Dominic in the alley and he notices she is crying. She’s happy for Maxie and Spinelli, but she wonders if she’ll ever have what they have. He tells her love lasts until you’re old and grey and it shows up when you least expect it.
Robin says it’s time for the garter and bouquet to be thrown, which Jason and Sam catch.
Mac tells Maxie he just wants her to be happy and she says she is because she has someone who loves her: him. She is lucky he loved her for her whole life, but he says he’s the lucky one. She asks if he can start to like Spinelli and Mac says, “If that’s what you want.”
Matt comes to the party, as Robin introduces karaoke. Spinelli wants to sing to his lovely non-bride, but Robin says they all want to sing to them. Coleman cues up “I Want to Know What Love Is,” and the crowd serenades the happy couple.
Lulu and Dominic hear the song outside and he asks her to dance.
