cbru: Coleman is the bartender at Jake's. Jake was a woman who used to own the bar, hence the name Jake's.

Even though I'm here in Canada and we had the day off Wednesday for Canada Day, here's wishing Happy Fourth of July to you American's out there.

Remember the day's of GH when those holidays were included on the show with all the families going to the park for a picnic, instead of worrying about what Michael is doing wrong or who killed who or who's your daddy? *sigh* the good ole days!

Cynic: I think Dom and Johnny are suppose to be in their early to mid-20's. Like 24-25. So, Kristen would only be like 9 to 10 years younger as opposed to almost 20 like Johnny and Olivia but as you stated if they turn out to be brother and sister then it's a no-go! Seeing Johnny and Dom together made me think back to younger Nic and Lucky scenes. All fine looking young men. The car Michael has is a mercedes not a porsche. The brief case Alexis grabbed on her way back to the office was a Damier Louie Vuitton and unless its on loan..they cost about 2,000.00.

genhospchat - I was just talking about the holiday issue with my mother yesterday. She watches Y & R & they were having a 4th of July barbecue. It's sad because I enjoyed watching the characters celebrate or even mention the holiday.

Beancounter - you got some brill ideas - you should be writing for the show.

genhospchat, hope u had a gr88 Canada Day as I.

For the US viewer - have a Happy 4th of July (Independence Day)!!!

Cynic, I didn't understand something you said. Only Dominic knows that he and Kristina are half siblings... Dominic/Dante doesn't know that Sonny is his father - does he? Also, I don't recall Blackie, Felicia or Frisco having any parents to disrespect.

Maybe there won't be a car crash. Maybe this is just a Friday cliffhanger suspense type thing. I thought it was strange that Michael said "Jason's brother was driving." I don't know what I expected but its sad to me that he thinks of his biological father as Jason's brother.

Oops, good catch TNBuckle! Domenic does not know yet that Sonny is his father. He only knows that Kristina is Sonny's daughter.

ransomha, the older a woman gets, the less important the age difference becomes. e.g. a 15 year old girl and 25 year old man is not acceptable in the US, especially as a 15 yr. old girl is under age and any liason would be considered statutory rape. A 25 yr. old girl and 35 yr old man is more acceptable. By the time you get to 45 and 55 respectively it is considered normal.

I don't know how you spotted the label on the brief case, but it could be a knock off from the flea market.

Blackie Parrish was a street kid who had just lost his mother and was fending for himself. The Webbers took him in as a foster child. (John Stamos was brought in to attract the teens and became an instant hit.) Lou Swenson was a groupie living in an abandoned trailer who became Rose Kelly's foster child when she took a room at Kelly's. She didn't seem to have any parents. Felicia had a grandmother (played by June Lockhart of Lost in Space) of whom she was very fond and we saw quite a lot of her. Frisco had a brother, Tony, and parents although we never saw the parents. It is true that they never had parents to be sassy to, but they did show a lot of respect for the older characters, and Felicia was VERY respectful of her grandmother.

My point is that these characters were the "teenage angst" 25 years ago. Some of them were rejected, thrown away street kids, yet none of them were bratty spoiled or selfish. Demi Moore played a reporter, Jackie Templeton, who cared for her younger sister as they had no parents. All these characters were responsible and caring, and a joy to watch, unlike Kristina whom even the kindest of us would like to smack.

Cynic: The age difference between Olivia and Johnny is more like 20 years not 10. He's around 24 she early 40's (went to high school with Sonny). Let her get her lust on now...as she gets closer to 50 doubt he'd be giving her a second glance. As for the breif case..it's not a lable I noticed..it's the beautiful pattern...and handle. Knock off's are against the law...so I doubt they would use one on TV. And as for the teenagers...it's alot easier to be kind to adults that you have no history with then people who raise you day to day. I am looking foward to the murder mystery, At least it's something different. Fun to try to figure out who did what and who's covering for who....enjoy the weekend and fire works....

Cynic-GH is not shutting down for two weeks. The show will still be airing. They have enough episodes taped ahead, that they can "go dark" without interupting normal broadcasting. As far as I'm concerned, if they are so far ahead, we should have had a new show today, instead of a repeat! When they go dark the actors don't have to come in every day for shooting scenes, as they normally do. But the writers and some others may need to go in to rewrite some stories. As I understand it, some actors that are say, on vacation, may need to come in to "block shoot", tape a bunch of scenes to be mixed in with others later. And you're right, my Mercedes/Briana scenario is too convoluted for them! But I was thinking about that case that Sam had, where the cheating wife has a female lover.

Cynic, now that you put it all there in writing I see what you mean about the teenagers then and now. I'm not sure why the writers think this is what would attract new teens.

I started watching as a 14 year old. Bobbie was becoming a nurse (which is when I decided to be a nurse). Laura had just killed a man, I think Leslie was taking the blame. I don't remember what else was happening but I was hooked!

Thanks Firebird85.

I do have to give the writers their due. It is easy to come up with ideas especially when you spend your day reconciling accounts. I don't know if I could handle writing dialogue like they do.

I just wish there were more structure to the storylines. Sometimes it seems like they are just winging it.

Hi Cynic, you do have some good points about the teenagers on the show as opposed to the older days. I was thinking about some of the posts regarding Johnny being groomed to take Jason's place if Steve Burton leaves the show.

I remember back then that I would hate to see a character leave but there was always other characters on the show worth tuning in for. There was no grooming necessary. I just wish GH would stop putting their eggs in one basket so to speak and make better use of the talent they have.

I think we would all prefer to see an ensemble cast, but unfortunately they have this "star" mentality in which anyone who is not in the orbit of the lead storyline gets short shrift and/or put on the back burner. If they did not build up some characters at the expense of others they might not be going through the whole pantomine of actors threatening not to renew their contract periodically. Still, I would not want the insecurity of being an actor on a soap, never knowing from one day to the next what will happen to your character.

I do wish that they would not bring in attractive and interesting characters then not use them once the original story has fizzled. Case in point: Matt Hunter. A handsome young doctor, illegitimate half brother of one of the "star" actors who has been forgotten about since his introductory storyline was finished. If I recall, it never was finished as he was working undercover to expose the counterfeit drug ring. We need to make a list of unfinished plots and send them to the current writers.

Whew, glad to hear that they will not be shutting down the show for two weeks.
