Jason and Maxie have a heart-to-heart, Sonny saves Claudia's life and Johnny gets through to Nikolas.
Sam has just found Jerry at the clinic and asks what he's doing there. Jerry weaves a tale about suspecting a shipment of fake drugs coming in and how he wants to impress Alexis by proving it for Nikolas. Sam says that she'll stay behind and wait for the shipment, but Jerry says it's far too dangerous and he insists on seeing her home. Sam thinks for a minute, and then agrees. She takes the opportunity to try to get him to admit that he's using her mother, but he says that he has actually started to care for Alexis.
Over at Jason's house, Maxie tries to say that she came downstairs for a blanket. Jason sees through her lie and she admits that she heard on the news about the Russians being shot and wondered if his gun had been fired. She says that Spinelli worships him and her lips are sealed no matter what he has done. "Spinelli would be wrecked if something happened to you," Jason says in return. Maxie asks him to clarify what he means by that. Jason says that Spinelli constantly tries to impress her and ends up putting himself at risk and she ends up rescuing him and making him feel worse. She contends that she only helps Spinelli to protect him and tells Jason that if he would help him to become more street smart, Spinelli could protect himself. Jason wants no part of teaching Spinelli martial arts.
What she doesn't know is that Spinelli has come to the stairway and hears her. Jason sees him, but Spinelli urges him to let her keep talking. Maxie says that Spinelli is the only person who has ever believed in her, besides Georgie. She tells Jason how much he has come to mean to her and how he has helped her to see herself in a better light. She wants to be as good to him as he is to her. Jason stands up and says that he has to go out, but he wants her to stay in Spinelli's room, in his bed, and make sure he's okay while he's out. Maxie thanks him for not kicking her out and runs upstairs. When she crawls in with Spinelli, he contentedly pretends that he is asleep.
"You're the only man that I will ever want," Carly begs Jax and asks if they can start over right now. Jax is deeply saddened, but says that their marriage is over. Carly admits that she should've said no to Sonny out of respect for their vows, but she didn't. Jax tells her not to torture herself because it's over. He says that something has died inside of him and that she hurt him more than he thought possible. He hopes to find a way to stop loving her. On his way out, Carly says that the happiest time in her life was loving him.
Along a darkened roadway, Claudia comes around as Sonny asks how she is. She says that she can't feel her legs. Sonny tries to call 911, but it takes a while to get through. After he finally does, he gives their location and quickly hangs up because he smells gas. He scrambles to pull Claudia from the car, but her seat belt is stuck. Sonny digs through his pockets and produces a pocketknife to cut her free. They barely limp away as the car explodes.
Johnny has asked to speak to Nikolas, but Lucky shows up in the interrogation room instead. He is full of attitude and reports that Nikolas is in lockup for punching Baldwin and that his family is falling apart because of him. He grabs Johnny by the shirt collar, and Johnny says, "You have no idea what I've done for your sister." He reminds Lucky that he could've crossed the border, but he took her to Shadybrook for help. Lucky is furious with him, but Johnny says that the only person who can help Lulu now is Nikolas, so get him!
Out at Shadybrook, Lulu slips into Laura's room and wakes her up for a late-night talk. She tells her mother how badly she feels about the outcome of the two men she was involved with, and Laura tries to assure her that we need to make mistakes in order to learn from them. She recalls how she felt years ago when she was held captive on the island in Greece when she really wanted to return to Luke. She says that she used to go to the nursery and hold Nikolas's teeny fingers. Then she reminds Lulu that years later her big brother Nikolas gave her the bone marrow she needed to stay alive. Her point was that out of something miserable comes a miracle and that kind of perspective only happens in time.
Lucky rushes home and tells Sam that he's not sure he can trust Nikolas not to help Johnny. He says that watching Lulu's life fall apart is like watching a train wreck. Sam listens and tries to comfort him. She kisses him and tells him to let it go, just for tonight. After they make love, Sam tells Lucky about her run-in with Jerry tonight and how much more certain she is than ever that he is the key to the fake drugs.
Nikolas goes into the interrogation room to see Johnny. Johnny begs him to get Lulu out of the country before she is called to testify. Nikolas thinks for a minute and finally understands. He asks Johnny if Lulu killed Logan? Johnny explains exactly how it happened and admits that they should've just called 911. He reminds Nikolas that this is a death penalty case and if Lulu takes the stand she'll confess. Nik points out that if Lulu escapes Scott will put him away for good. Johnny understands completely and says he only cares about Lulu.
Jerry finds Jax on the waterfront and asks why he isn't at home with his wife. Jax says that he has no home and no wife, but doesn't want to get into it. Jerry urges him to talk about it with him, but Jax walks away.
After the dust from the car explosion has settled, Claudia tells Sonny that he saved her life. Sonny says that Michael did. He explains that the pocketknife he used to cut the seatbelt was Michael's and he never goes anywhere without it. Claudia is in pain, but tells him that she owes him and will repay him when the time comes.
Karpov meets Jerry on the waterfront. He is angry that he has to move about with an assumed name now that his visa has been revoked and is growing impatient with Jerry's methods for handling 'the situation'. Jerry assures him that the evidence will disappear as soon as all the victims are in place.
Mercedes is surprised to find Jax at the door and tells him that Carly took Morgan away and didn't say when they'd be back.

Laura tells Lulu to do as Johnny asks and let Nikolas take her out of the country.
Maxie testifies and Spinelli comes for moral support.
Scott rips into Maxie for her past sexual promiscuity, then calls Lulu to the stand.
Anthony uses an eye for an eye when he threatens Scott's daughter, Serena.
Patrick tells Claudia that she needs to remain hospitalized.
Lucky comes upon Sam with Jerry and Sam accuses Lucky of stalking her.
