Carly pushes Sonny away but admits she's to blame for Michael's coma, Jason holds himself responsible and Claudia apologizes to the little boy that she can identify with.
Nikolas and Emily are lying together on his sofa. He tells her that the drugs are working because he hasn't had any blackouts, and she points out that he is seeing her less because he knows this is wrong. He asks what's so wrong with wanting to share his life with her? She says that he's lying to everyone and is so afraid to live without her that he's willing to die. He tells her that he doesn't have anything without her in his life. They both cry at the thought of it, but she tells him that he has to let her go.
At GH, Leyla listens as Nadine explains how done she is with Nikolas's problems! Leyla says this reminds her of how she felt when she got involved with Patrick. Nadine denies being in that deep, but Leyla tells her friend to learn from her mistakes. She advises Nadine to go to Nikolas and tell him that her heart is on the line.
"You put our son in the line of fire to save Kate?" Carly demands an answer even though several people have gathered around them outside of Michael's room. Finally Sonny tells her yes. His repayment for honesty is a slap across the face. Kate tries to explain how quickly it happened and Carly tells her to shut her mouth. She continues her rant against Sonny for not keeping his son safe and ultimately tells him that he is not Michael's father anymore. Sonny tells him that she can hate him all she wants, but she can never tell him that he doesn't love his kids. Alexis urges them both to stop. Carly tells Sonny to never go near Michael again and leaves them all stunned.
Jason (visiting Monica in rehab) finally pulls away from Monica's embrace. He says that he made so many mistakes with Michael along the way, but Monica insists that he loves Michael. She tells him that she forgives him for anything he may have done and prays that he forgive himself. Before more can be said, Jason takes a call from Liz and hears that Carly needs him right away!
At Jake's, Claudia explains to Robin that Patrick told her about the baby she tricked him into having. Robin isn't rattled, but Patrick tries to explain anyway. He says that Claudia simply approached him to ask about Michael's condition. Robin doesn't see how Michael has anything to do with Claudia! Claudia explains that she was afraid that Sonny would think her brother did it. Robin tells Patrick that it's time for them to leave.
Back at Wyndemere Nik begs Emily not to leave him. Nadine barges in to tell him they need to get a few things straight! She tells Nik that he's throwing his life away on a fantasy and starts throwing (toy) train pieces at "Emily" in order to prove that she's not really there. Finally, Nik admits that Emily told him that she won't be around anymore. Nadine tells him that at least the dead woman and he worked it out. She calls him obsessed and berates him for ruining their great afternoon together. On her way out the door, she turns her ankle on one of the toys. Nik puts her on the couch and tells her to spend the night.
Diane goes out to Sonny's house and finds Max there drinking. He pours her a drink and says that he should've shadowed Sonny no matter what his orders were. Diane tells him that he's a sweet and wonderful man, but he's an idiot. She tells him that he is not to blame for the shooting, and he says that she probably feels guilty too. Diane lists all the legal maneuvering that she's done for Sonny and says that she has a closet full of designer shoes, but has no blood on her hands. She has tears brimming in her eyes and to cover her vulnerability she tells Max to shut up and then plants a big kiss on him. Not long after, Alexis pushes into Sonny's study and screams in horror as she finds 4 bare legs and arms coming out from beneath a blanket. Diane and Max end up screaming too.
Robin has brought Patrick back to her place. She says she's worried that he's blaming himself for Michael's coma. Patrick says that the damage was too great to Michael's brain, but he started drinking because he couldn't stop thinking about Michael's father. He asks why Sonny hasn't been involved at the hospital and Robin tries to explain Carly's point-of-view. Patrick asks if mothers get to make all the decisions?
Sonny goes back to the warehouse and finds the forensics team just finishing up. He surmises that they found nothing to pin the shooting on and tells Kate as much when she arrives a few minutes later. He tells Kate that Carly is right, that he doesn't know the meaning of the word father. Kate tells him that he did absolutely nothing wrong! She reminds him that she was closer to him and it was a ricochet that hit Michael so by going closer to Michael he technically would have put his son at greater risk. He says that he hurt his son a lot worse than Mike or Deke ever hurt him! Kate wants to help, but he asks her to leave. He explains that every time he looks at her it reminds him of what he didn't do for his son. Kate turns and walks away.
Jason finds Carly at Michael's bedside. She tells him about Sonny's visit and what transpired. She informs Jason that Sonny saw the rifle but chose to push Kate out of the way instead of his own son. "This is the man I chose to be Michael's father," she sadly says. She states that she set Michael on the path that led him here and it's all on her. Jason tries to get her to go easier on herself, but she says that she should've admitted the difficult truth that Sonny wasn't father material. She said she should've never let her love for him push reality away. Jason just sadly takes it all in.
Liz brings her boys home after a long day at work. She tells them that she is the luckiest mother in the world to have her two healthy boys. Later, Jason comes over and Liz quickly tells him how sorry she is about the pain he's in. She tells him about the rage and grief that filled Carly earlier and how a similar situation would just kill her. Jason says that he could never put her and her boys in the situation that Carly and Michael are in now. "You know I love you. I just don't see how we can do this," he quietly says.
Claudia carefully steps into Michael's room and apologizes to him. She says it never occurred to her that he would be with his father that night, but it should've because she grew up in a world of violence too. She puts her mother's rosary into his hand and asks him to hold onto it for her. On her way out, she runs into a venomous Carly.
