Spinelli isn't up to his normal genious self, Maxie tries to care about shoes but can't, and Epiphany gets the call.
Lucky gets off of the hospital elevator and sees Liz at the nurse's desk. They awkwardly wish each other a happy New Year and then he asks why she wasn't working when he called the hospital that night. Liz asks if he's checking up on her. She explains that she enjoyed some alone time to reflect on the past year. Lucky says that at one point, he thought they would ring it in 2008 together, that's all. Liz asks if he was alone on New Years Eve, but he admits that he was with Sam. Before Liz can comment, Lulu arrives and takes Lucky with her to see Luke.
At the coffee warehouse, Diane, Spinelli and Jason are working in Sonny's office trying to figure out where the NYPD is keeping Sonny. While Spinelli and Jason brainstorm, Diane opens her mail and sees that she has been nominated for Litigator of the Year. She giddily reads the letter from the Women's Attorney Association and Max comes in and congratulates her. (But first he uses some breath spray!) Diane is DONE talking about Sonny's problems because now she needs to go find the perfect dress and shoes.
Luke is incredibly frustrated in his room. But not for long because his Cuban cigar dealer arrives and improves his demeanor greatly. Tracy arrives soon after and the two men suddenly start talking about the NY Knicks. Luke quickly explains that his friend used to play the steel drums at his blues club. Before Tracy can shoot holes in the story, Lulu and Lucky arrive. They tell him that he's looking a little better, so he must be up to no good. He promises that he won't do anything to undermine his recovery, but Tracy looks suspicious.
Alexis is at her office in the Metro Court when Jerry shows up to deliver her mail. She crankily tells him to stop dropping in on her and he ends up spilling the mail all over the floor. From across the room, Alexis recognizes some letterhead and crawls on her hands and knees to reach it. When she opens the envelope, she screams and jumps like a school girl on a snow day as she learns that she has been nominated for Litigator of the Year. Jerry is impressed and Alexis tells him that some of the past recipients have ended up on the Federal bench. Jerry asks if he can escort her to the awards dinner, but Alexis turns him down flat.
Nik walks into his study and finds Emily there waiting for him. He says that he's done questioning how her presence is possible and she tells him that's probably for the best. He is upset at himself for not appreciating all the little things about her when she was with him - like watching her brush her teeth. He says that his rages are gone and he seems to have traded "mad for madness." Lulu comes to see him and says that Luke seems to be doing better so now she can try to help him with his grief. He agrees to go for a walk with her and Spencer and then holds his hand out to make sure Emily comes along.
Diane has gone straight to the boutique at the Metro Court to look at shoe designs. She isn't happy at the drawings that Maxie has to show her and wishes that Kate were here to help her. Then, she directs Maxie to find the kind of shoes that "scream award winner!"
Later, Maxie is called to Alexis's office and she is promptly directed to find shoes that are understated because sometimes you can say more that way. Alexis quickly can see how sad Maxie is and asks her how she is dealing with her grief. Maxie says that going home and not finding Georgie there is the hardest part.
Spinelli has moved his laptop out to the coffee shop and is working on falsifying their Health Department records to avoid a visit from the health inspector. Max asks if he's okay and he shares that he is missing Georgie. He says that he only learned about Georgie's feelings after she was gone and that her words came to him "like the sweet breath of a lover on your pillow while you dream." Meanwhile, the City Health Inspector shows up ready to look the place over.
Jerry has a business associate (a.k.a. goon) in his office at the Metro Court. He orders the termination of someone in Florida that he no longer has use for. His goon says that it will be promptly carried out.
Ric has called Skye into his office to reiterate his offer to broker her waterfront property deal. He says that Sonny has been arrested in NYC and it's perfect timing. Skye suggests that he might just be interested in sticking it to his brother. She reminds him that Sonny saved his life by giving his blood and Ric says that going after Sonny is a hard habit to break. He changes the subject and asks why she hangs around with a revenge junkie addict like him. She tells him that he's handsome and dynamic and she is willing to be his revenge-junkie sponsor. The sexual tension is thick between them as he tells her that she is his only appointment for the day.
While Luke is out having tests, Tracy ransacks his room looking for something but she's not sure what. When he returns, he laughs and says he'll help her find whatever it is. She says that if he isn't cheating, he's not breathing, so what did his buddy bring him? Luke denies having any contraband and Spanky admits that she just wants to grow old with him, that's all. They exchange "I love yous" and then she leaves him to nap. The second she's gone, he lights up his cigar. And the second after that, he's gasping for air.
Alexis knocks on Ric's office door and when he finally tells her to come in, she realizes that she has interrupted something between him and Skye. They are embarrassed, but try to keep their composure.
The health inspector has finished her work at the warehouse and found a bunch of violations. Diane arrives and arranges for Jason to pay a huge fine if only she doesn't report the problems. Then Diane recognizes the designer scarf that the inspector is wearing and asks her advice on which designer to wear to a very prestigious awards ceremony. The inspector says Armani would be a wise choice.
Epiphany finds Cassius daydreaming at the hospital and reads him the riot act. Then she yells at all of the nurses at the desk. When Nadine gently asks her how her New Year's Eve was, Epiphany says that she waited for her son, Stan, to call. Not long after, Epiphany finally gets the call she's been waiting for. Stan tells her that he's sorry he hasn't called and that he's doing some business in Florida. She tells him that she has made a vow to tell him how much she loves him and accepts him for who he is. Her smile turns into a total confusion when she hears a crash and then the line goes dead.

The New York City prosecutor says that Sonny is being held on assault and isn't going anywhere!
Luke is unconscious as Tracy and the hospital staff buzz around him.
While he's out, Luke learns that his "soul is on trial."
