Friends and family gather to pay tribute to Alan Quartermaine...and to bicker, Luke shows his soft side twice in one day, and Jason holds his mother's hand.

As the Q's prepare for Alan's memorial, they are….bickering. Tracy is in a snit about which pictures of Alan will be displayed, and where. Monica comes in and says that there will be no pictures…anywhere. Because it's her house and Alan gave it to her! Tracy tells her sister-in-law that even though she's the grieving widow, Alan "is the man I loved and fought with long before he knew you existed," so the family can have a say in how the memorial goes. Dillon and Ned stand by and try to keep the peace without getting in the way. The arguing is brought to a stop – momentarily – as Monica smashes a picture frame onto the floor. She tells them that Alan's voice is silenced forever, but she cannot stand the sound of theirs. After she stomps out of the room, Tracy goes on about the pitiful flower arrangement that the Cerulo family sent. Edward tells her to calm down and try kindness today instead of her normal rage. Tracy comments that he sounds like Lila. Edward says that he's glad Lila didn't live to see the death of her son; instead she is welcoming him back to her.

Luke goes over to Laura's house and finds Lucky having coffee. Luke says that he is happy that Lucky will be moving his family into his mother's house. Nothing would make Laura happier, he says. Lulu comes down, ready for the funeral, and Luke asks her if she can take it easy on Tracy today. Nikolas, Bobby and Leslie arrive and Leslie points out that this is the first time that they've all been together since Laura left. Lulu points out that Laura will always be a part of them. "Well said, gumdrop," Luke beams at his daughter. Before they head out the door, Luke pulls Nikolas aside and asks if he's had any more trouble with Helena. Nikolas reports that she isn't a problem, at the moment. Luke offers his help in the event that things change. Nikolas is dumbfounded at Luke's support and Luke explains. "Last November you were amazing…handling Laura, taking care of Lulu, Lucky and even me. I won't forget it."

Jason is at home preparing for the funeral and having vague flashbacks to his earlier relationship with his father. There's a knock on his door and he is surprised to open it and find Elizabeth. She tells him that she's knows that Sam is out of town, and wonders if he could use a friend. He says that Emily will need her today, for sure. Liz tells him that Alan will always be alive in the child she is carrying. As they are talking, her baby kicks and before he can stop himself Jason reaches to put his hand on her belly. They excitedly talk about whether it'll be a boy or a girl and then both of them pull back and change the direction of the conversation. She leaves so that she can go spend time with Emily.

People are starting to show up at the Quartermaine mansion. Georgie offers her condolences to Dillon, who awkwardly accepts them. Alexis is queasy and isn't sure if it's because of the smell of the flowers or the reality of a funeral. Jax tells her that cancer is no match for her. Dr. Ford, and then Epiphany pay their respects to Monica. Noah tells Monica that he admired Alan as a doctor and a man. When Patrick pushes Robin (in a wheelchair) into the foyer, Edward tells her that Alan had a special place in his heart for her.

Lulu hobbles toward Dillon on her crutches and asks what is in the letter! Tracy intervenes and tells her to go find her father, then tells Dillon to let go of his silly investigation. Skye and a head-bandaged Lorenzo arrive and Tracy says that she won't allow the people responsible for her brother's death to crash his services. Skye said that she and Alan loved each other; furthermore, Alan forgave her for her part in what happened. Dillon and Ned come in and say that Alan would want Skye to be there. When Tracy continues to grumble, Ned puts his foot down. He says that they can be big enough to let Skye pay her respects. Alice tells everyone to "clam up".

Tracy is tired of Ned trying to calm her down. She tells him that he moved away and is barely part of the family anymore. He tells her that he loves her and that he hasn't resigned from the Q family. Luke comes to her and tells her that she can act anyway she feels like because funerals are for the living and Alan is out of the equation. Luke tells her that if she wants to throw rocks, he'll help her. Then he holds her in his arms. Soon, Scott shows up and before Luke can make a scene, Bobbie tells Scott to come sit with her.

Alone in the study, Monica is thrilled to see Jason come through the terrace door. He asks if there's anything he can do for her. She tells him that he came, that's all she needs. She strokes Alan's favorite chair and recalls the various occasions that she would find him there. She sadly says that the chair is as empty as the house now, and not half as empty as her heart. "Sadness is in me, too" Jason has trouble getting the words out.

The service is about to begin. Dillon sits directly in front of Lulu and sneakily hands the letter back to her from below the chairs. She reads it and glares over at Scott. Jason escorts Monica into the room and sits with the family in the front aisle. After they are seated, he takes her hand. Ned steps to the podium to speak. He speaks of Alan's virtues and flaws…his compassion for his patients and what a show-off he was at the nurse's ball. "He was an exasperating brother, a rebellious son, a three-way father of the adopted, frustrated and surrogate. He was a grandfather who wasn't as involved as he would've liked. He was a man who drove his wife to distraction. But he was a master because there was one thing that he understood better than anybody. The complexities of love."

After the service, Emily sits quietly with her grandfather. Tracey tearfully thanks Ned for his beautiful words about Alan. She tells him that her big brother accepted her exactly the way she was and she doesn't know where she'll ever find that kind of gift again. "Maybe where you least expect it," Ned wisely told her.

Monica is alone in the study once again. She's remembering some special times with her husband. His proposal….their lovemaking…when she had breast cancer…trying times in the operating room…Lila's love for her son… when Edward suffered a heart attack….quarreling with Tracy… when Emily was sick…when Michael came to live with them...before Jason's accident…when Alan played the silly bear during the nurse's ball. During all of Monica's memories, Jason is sitting quietly behind her for support. She kisses him and leaves Jason alone with his memories. Jason recalls a conversation in which Alan told him "…A.J. will never earn my love and no matter how hard you try, you'll never destroy it." Jason is sad as he recalls this and simply says to his father's memory "I know."
