It Must Be National Soul-Searching Day in Port Charles.

Wednesday, January 17 2007
Sam considers crossing the line, Patrick faces a life-altering challenge, Liz meanders her way to a decision and Dillon helps Lulu and ends up helping himself.

Patrick and Robin are playing house in his unfurnished apartment. There's a knock at the door and Patrick thinks she ordered breakfast from the deli. Oh, she ordered something alright, but it's not bagels. It's a couch! She apologetically explains that he's been so busy at the hospital that she found a couch for him. If he doesn't like it, he can send it back, she tells him. Surprisingly, he's not upset with her. In fact, he suggests that they "try it out", but she runs off to work.

Lulu is brainstorming in the Quartermaine family room while Dillon is trying to study. She can't believe that she allowed Rick Webber's date book to get out of her hands and wants Dillon to create diversion so she can look for a safety deposit key somewhere in the house. Dillon reluctantly decides to help her out. When Alan, Monica, Tracy and Edward arrive for an impromptu ELQ meeting they all stand up to leave when they realize that it's another "Dillon" meeting. Before they have a chance, Dillon scrambles to come up with a topic that will keep them in the room for a while. "I move to force Grandfather into retirement," he blurts out.

Jason is about to leave for work, but Sam convinces him to stay home for a while so they can go back upstairs. Jason is happy to oblige, but first he wants to know why she really quit her job at ELQ. She sticks to her story about not wanting to be Edward's incubator. He gets the feeling that there is more.

After they tell Dillon how ridiculous his suggestion is, Quartermaines go through their normal bickering about who is entitled to be the family heir…which grandson has received preferential treatment, etc. One thing leads to another and Dillon rants that maybe he doesn't want to end up as a cynical board member after all. He works himself in to frenzy, until he rips off his button- down shirt and declares that he wants to follow his passion and be a director.

Robin has arrived at the hospital and Lainey hands over some mail that's been piling up for her at their apartment. Robin explains the couch scenario and how much she hates feeling like a pushy girlfriend all of a sudden. Lainey tells her to relax, she simply bought a couch. Robin says that she's the one who found the apartment, forced him to move in, filled it with her own stuff, and then bought a couch! She's disgusted with herself.

Meanwhile, Professor Pete goes to Patrick's apartment to borrow a skateboard and marvels that he's not living in a hotel suite anymore. He' quickly notices the new black leather sofa. When he learns that Robin ordered and had it delivered, he warns Patrick that if he's not careful she'll plan the wedding without telling him next. Pete says that he might as well get the three-bedroom house in the suburbs close to a nice school. Patrick calls him an ass and says that Robin is a brilliant doctor, she's not like that. Pete advises him to show Robin some boundaries unless he's ready to give up the bachelor life.

Lucky and Cruse are working together, but stop for coffee at Kelly's. Georgie apologizes to Lucky for her sister's deception, and so Lucky is forced to explain the fake pregnancy to Cruse. After he does, Maxi walks in and Cruse tells Lucky, "Look out." Lucky jumps down her throat and she claims that she didn't come to Kelly's to see him.

Liz goes for a walk along the waterfront and runs into Jason. They reminisce a little about simpler times and Liz gets on the subject of their night together and various choices that people make in their lives. She ponders why she can't bring herself to give Lucky the one piece of information that would force him to finally let go of their marriage. Jason wants her to elaborate, so she explains about Maxi's fake pregnancy. She explains that she's been supportive of Lucky so that he doesn't go back to pills, but doesn't want him to get the wrong idea. She tells Jason that there are two Lucky's now. The one she used to love and the one who's an addict. She knows that he'll have a better chance at recovery if she accepts him back as her husband. Does she owe him that chance? Jason says that it sounds like she doesn't trust him to make his own choices. And without trust, love can't last.

Sam comes home and Spinelli is surprised and happy to see her. He wants her to play computer games with him. The more he rambles about computers, the more you can tell that she has an idea. She asks him if he's able to use cyberspace to make a person's identity disappear. Spinelli says that unless the person is protected by the Department of Defense, he can. Images, however, are a little trickier. He explains that it's easy to delete all references to "Where's Waldo", but the photos of the goofy cartoon guy are harder to eliminate. But – "the Jackal can do all". Sam tells him to keep their conversation just between them.

Tracy tells her family not to believe that Dillon is having an epiphany, he must be up to something. She suspects that it has something to do with Lulu. He says that he gave up on his own dreams when he changed his major and he's not going to do it anymore. Alice breaks out in applause, and Alan is proud of him. Alan shares that he chose medicine over Edward's dreams of him joining the family business and never looked back. Edward ends up saying that Jason is the only Quartermaine who is worth a damn and the same will be true of his child.

Dillon, sans glasses and button-down, is happily sketching in the family room when Lulu finds him and reports that he did a great job keeping the family occupied. She didn't find what she was looking for, however, and is sorry that he wasted his time. He tells her that it wasn't a waste at all. He feels much better now because in the process he was able to realize what he needs to do with his life. Lulu grins from ear-to-ear.

Georgie and Maxi sit down and talk for a while. She denies, again, that she has feelings for Professor Pete. Just then, he comes into Kelly's. Maxi comes right out and asks him if he wants to date her sister. Georgie is mortified and kicks Maxi out.

Lucky and Cruse are on the job. They kick down the door to an apartment and make a drug bust. As Cruse is putting the guy in cuffs; Lucky's eyes linger on a stash of hydrocodone pills.

Liz goes to confession – even though she's not Catholic. She tells the priest that she's separated from her husband and is pregnant with another man's child. She tells him that her husband was addicted to pills and even cheated on her and that's when she turned to an old friend. Then she explains that she kept her secret all this time in order to protect her husband's recovery. She wonders if she's really just using that as an excuse because the father of her baby has a life of his own with a woman that he loves. She says that she really doesn't want the father to give up his life for her and their baby. Then, without any guidance from the Priest behind the screen, she comes to a conclusion on her own. "He'll never know that I love him."
