This was certainly a good week to be a GH fan, as we were treated to another powerhouse performance by Jonathan Jackson on Monday and then got the Dante/Sonny confrontation we've all been waiting for with a great performance by Dominic Zamprogna on Friday.
Jonathan Jackson was truly on fire as he portrayed Lucky finally confronting Elizabeth and Nikolas. His anger and devastation was truly palpable and he was so into his character that at one point I thought his eyes were going to literally come out of his head as he ripped into Elizabeth. I'm enjoying this edgier Lucky and would like to see him turn to the dark side for awhile. At least the darker side, where he's cynical and snippy because he really had some good one liners in there, especially when Carly came over to invite them to the christening and he outted Nik and Liz by comparing them to farm animals. Also, I find him praying in church asking why this happened to him a bit much. I mean Elizabeth cheated on him, no one died. So it's time for him to man up, stop crying and let the Spencer genes flow through his blood and act like the irresponsible cad Luke is. That might be fun to watch for awhile.
While Lucky was amazing to watch, Nikolas' lone tear streaming down his face was pretty laughable. They really should have just left him there looking sorry and guilty, because that one tear was too obviously fake, especially when put up against what we were getting from Lucky.
As for Elizabeth, she really took the brunt of everyone's anger. I think Lucky was justified in the awful things he said, since people who have been wronged and are feeling that raw tend to go for the jugular, so his stinging words were understandable. Lulu though, not so much. I understand she's mad at Elizabeth for hurting her brother, but it's not really her place to tear her down in front of her co-workers.
Luke really stepped up last week by being there for his son, as well as for understanding Elizabeth. I have to believe that when he offered to kill Liz or Nik for Lucky, when he found him firing his gun out in the woods, he was just trying to defuse the situation. I don't believe he would actually have done it if Lucky asked him to, especially after his conversation with Elizabeth where he told her he was unhappy with her, but understood that people make mistakes. If anyone should understand what she's done, it's Luke.
Ethan was another highlight for me last week, as I really like how he's reaching out to Lucky, but also Elizabeth. It's nice to know not everyone thinks she's trash. He's certainly grown on me lately.

Which leads me to Friday's show, where we ended the week with more great performances, as Dante tried to arrest Sonny, but got a bullet in the chest instead. Where Jonathan Jackson wears his heart on his sleeve in portraying Lucky, Dominic Zamprogna is a bit more reserved and restrained when showing emotion in Dante. Like his scene where he exploded at Olivia for telling Johnny he was a cop a couple of weeks ago, Dante was finally able to let out of his pent up aggression at the man who killed his childhood hero and who goes against everything he believes in. He may have grown to respect him a little bit the more he got to know him, but Sonny is still the epitome of everything Dante despises and he let him know that without being melodramatic or over the top. I felt Dante's pain as much as I did Lucky's. Olivia of course ran in right afterwards and blurted out that Sonny just shot his own son (Oops!), which is going to lead to all kinds of drama in the aftermath for just about everyone, which is what we hope for in stories like these.
While I've loved this story and am glad it's reached it's climax, I have to wonder how Sonny got this far in the mob world being so trusting. He trusts everyone, except those who are trying to look out for him. Jason warned him about Claudia, but he trusted Claudia. Michael warned him about Dominic, but he trusted Dominic. And those are just recent examples. How many times in the past has he been burned by those closest to him? He's a mobster, he's not supposed to truly trust anyone, is he?
As for the peripheral elements to this story: I loved all things Dante/Lulu this week, as she refused to let him push her away and he finally let her in. Jax is going to have a heck of a time explaining things to Carly, Michael and Morgan for helping Dante in his investigation. I kind of feel bad for Michael since he went to Jax for help with Sonny and believed that he was actually on their side. I loved seeing Agent Raynor and hope he sticks around to woo Alexis. I also hope Ronnie sticks around after the case wraps up and we get to know more about him. I loved the christening scenes intercut with Sonny and Dante's confrontation (very "Godfather"), but I was curious as to why Robin and Patrick were at there since Robin isn't exactly Carly's favorite person and Patrick has no ties to any of them.
I have two last random thoughts about last week: I loved the comments about Coleman being out of town and Kate not being able to make the christening from Jax and Carly and the looks they exchanged. If we can't see them onscreen, I like imagining them off somewhere getting down and dirty with each other. And what little we saw of them, I thought Tracy and Monica both looked beautiful last week.
