Back together. (Soaps.com)
GH Rundown for the week of November 23!

Last week was shortened due to the Thanksgiving holiday, but it was still a fun one filled with love, drama and lots of angst.

Thanksgiving Hookups

I'll start with the Thanksgiving episode as I really enjoyed it. After all the doom and gloom surrounding Claudia's death and the mystery surrounding Franco, the fun relaxed feeling of that episode was very welcomed. Aside from Maxie confessing to Lulu that she slept with Spinelli and the traditional Quartermaine pizza, we were treated to three fun set ups: Alexis and Mac, Carly and Jax, and Max and Diane. While it was great fun to see the first two couples' kids, step kids and niece scheme to bring them together, Max and Diane are one of my favorite couples, so Spinelli and Milo conspiring to reunite them under Sonny's orders was most entertaining for me. I mean, who can resist a plunger wielding, rubber glove wearing Max trying to look proud and unfazed when he saw Diane at the restaurant? Classic. Although, Morgan tinkering with Jax and Carly's cars was cute and Sam's line about Alexis never telling her who her father was while everyone explained to Lisa about Alexis' disastrous history with men was pretty hilarious. I wonder if they will ever get to that piece of information.

The Franco Effect
I am enjoying the feel of the story, how Franco is getting under Jason's skin and how he is causing many problems for Maxie, however, I'm still not all that fired up about James Franco, as part of me feels like he is acting like he thinks a soap actor should. Regardless, while I will feel bad for Spinelli when he finds out and I'm disappointed we didn't get to see more of the unmarried couple be happy, having Maxie cheat on him with Franco is not all that far fetched in my opinion. As she keeps saying, she always finds a way to sabotage herself, not to mention, she's always been attracted to the bad boy and she's an impetuous, impressionable young lady, so it makes sense she would be drawn to the brooding, mysterious artist, even if he is a bit brutish. I believe she slept with him on impulse and not to get him to agree to the photo shoot. At least that's what I hope.

Getting in trouble. (Soaps.com)
Franco's scenes with Sonny, Luke, Max and Milo were interesting as well and I would like to see him mix it up with more of the cast. If for no other reason than to see the cast shine as they play off him. Hopefully we'll see more of that in the weeks to come. I also would like to see more humor in him. I realize it would have to be a bit sick and twisted, as it's already been established that's what he is, but I think the actor is better at comedy than drama, or at least that's how I prefer him anyway.

Lucky's on the Case

After he ran all over town telling anyone who would listen how Joey Limbo really died, he came to Sonny and had an impromptu heart to heart with his dad's old friend. I rather enjoyed this scene as they recalled their history while showing each other respect, even though they didn't agree with what side of the law the other was on. And of course it hinted at how Sonny might react upon learning his own son (that he doesn't know about) is a cop, which I can't wait for.

The Mob

I have never had a problem with the violence on the show, or that the heroes are mobsters. I think I actually like that aspect of it, however, I do have a problem with Sam and Carly telling Jason he's a good man because he shoots people. Their argument is that he's just protecting those closest to him, but isn't he forced to do that because of the chain of events both he and Sonny put into motion by being in the mob in the first place? Turning a blind eye to his violent job is one thing, advocating and defending it is quite another.

That's all I got this time around. What did you think about last week's abbreviated events? Are you enjoying Franco? Did you like the Thanksgiving episode? Feel free to share your thoughts below!

I enjoyed the Thanksgiving episode as well.

My favorite scenes were of course, the Davis girls and Robin conspiring to set up Mac and Alexis. Morgan was so sweet finding a way to get Jax and Carly to spend the holiday together. It was nice to see Michael drop the wannabe mobster attitude and help his brother.

I do enjoy Franco getting under Jason's skin. I am betting that Jerry would be so jealous.

I posted the same thing on the daily update that Jason wouldn't have to kill to protect his loved ones if he wasn't in the mob. I think the role of the mob in the show needs to change. With the addition of Dante and the new and improved Detective Spencer, I would like to see Sonny put in jail and the PCPD become the heroes trying to prevent other mobsters from taking over. Perhaps we could also have some international intrigue at the hotel or gasp the hospital. One can only dream.

I agree with you about Jason, killng another human being should never ever be said to be okay. I thought Maxie and Spinnelli would be happy for a while and I thought she really loved Spin, and would not jump into bed with the first hot guy that turned her on. I think the writers made a big mistake there, making Maxie to be so shallow and bad. Love Robin and Patrick together on thanksgiving and am really getting into the character of Ethan. He is like Johnny, it took me a while to like Johnny but now he is my favourite man on the show, and now I am coming to like Ethan too, but not with Kristina, she is a very young looking 16 year old. He could be a good friend to her. Think GH needs to add some young 20 year old females to the show, have some great male hunks to fix them up with Johnny, Ethan, Nickolus, Lucky, even Coleman and Matt.

Lori,
You say: "Turning a blind eye to his violent job is one thing; advocating and defending it is quite another."

I say: Your distinction is a bit lit splitting hairs. You can't have it both ways. If you turn a blind eye to violence, you are, in fact, defending it. We then have the proverbial sin of omission, and anarchy prevails.

As for your remark : "I have never had a problem with the violence on the show, or that the heroes are mobsters."

By definition, heroes are not monster. Perhaps a better word is "antihero"?

And, in drama, often the function of the antihero is to highlight choices one makes and thus to make the point that an antihero could just as well have been a hero had he made the right choices.

Further, implicit in the classical definiton and purpose of drama is the ability to present a character in conflict who (along with his audence) learns something about himself, and, in the end, is ennobled by this knowledge.

I see no ennoblement in the characters of these "heroes" on GH; they continue to make the same "bloody" (pun intended) mistakes without ever learning anything; thus the drama becomes static, the characters caricatures, and the audience numbed and assaulted rather than vaulted.

BeanCounter, speaking of heroes, I couldn't agree with you more: PCPD should become heroes. Detective Spencer has come forward to provide a new moral center to the program--new and improved is right! And Dante can demonstrate the moral center also. As you say, one can only dream!
