Coleman at the carnival! (Soaps.com)
GH Breakdown for the week of September 7 – 11!

Overall, I really enjoyed the carnival. It was short lived, but it looked great, gave us elements of levity and all the drama in the aftermath will live on for quite some time.

I loved that they incorporated Alice and Coleman into the carnival, but did we really need the new ADA Louise in there? I didn’t even know who she was when Max was flirting with her and then threw her out of the way of the car until she talked with Milo at the hospital. I also can’t believe they only gave us one brief scene with Max after he got hit. The scene itself in his hospital room was odd and more importantly, where was Diane? She better get her butt to her man’s bedside this week or I will be furious!

It was hilarious to me that Liz and Jason just watched their son run off into the crowd and neither one went to grab him. Instead, they gazed into each other’s eyes, while Jake ran away from them. Great parenting. However, I do not think their longing looks meant anything considering Jason’s only concern after seeing Liz kiss Nikolas was how it would affect their son.

The only thing I have to say about that last topic is Nik and Liz really should make out behind closed doors and not in the hallway of a very public hospital if they want to keep their lust a secret from poor Lucky.

I found it odd that Sonny was more concerned about his enforcer Dominic than trying to find his wife, daughter and niece after Edward plowed down half the population at the carnival. I understand he’s grateful to Dominic for saving Morgan’s life, but since he doesn’t know Dom is his son, shouldn’t he have been more concerned about finding the family he does know about to see if they are okay? That said, Sonny and Dominic’s conversation was so good in the hospital! I’m such a fan of this calm, relaxed Sonny, and Dominic is always fantastic. The actors played off each other nicely, which makes me look forward to the truth coming out about their characters’ real connection, but I’m not looking forward Sonny exploding into his trademark fit of rage. And while I’m on the subject, I would really like to see Dominic/Dante interact with his aunt Kate.

Did anyone else think it was comical when Sonny called Bernie for Dominic’s contact information? Oh yeah, I'm sure Dominic gave them his ‘in case of emergency’ numbers when he applied for the position of being a mobster. Did Sonny have him fill out a W-2 form as well?

I loved Lulu and Dominic’s scene in the hospital. It was so cute when a critically wounded Dominic mustered up the strength to flirt with her and she finally agreed to go out with him once he’s out of there. I’m looking forward to seeing more of these two.

At least we know he's alive! (Soaps.com)
A couple who was suspiciously absent through most of the carnival was Carly and Jax. They didn’t play much of a role in it overall, but it was glaringly obvious when they were with Michael when he took off to find Kristina at the end of Wednesday’s episode, but weren’t on Thursday. Did they not care if Kristina was found or if Michael was okay looking for her?

I’m not sure what’s up with Kristina thinking Claudia saw her and then left her trapped under the ride. I don’t get the sense that’s what happened, as Claudia seemed to genuinely want to find her stepdaughter, so where are they going with this?

As expected, Andrea died in a dramatic fashion, but her exit was extremely anticlimactic. The small acknowledgment that she died was pretty much just an afterthought and why didn’t we see Garrett come to the hospital to see his dead wife? Furthermore, will we officially be told who killed Brianna or are we to assume it was Andrea? I guess it doesn’t really matter since the story never really received the attention it should have in the first place.

Luke really needs to get back to town to give Ethan some direction. I’m not a huge fan of the character, but he was really only interesting when he had Luke to play off of. It was a good twist that he and Rebecca were partners in crime, but they haven’t developed that into anything particularly gripping.

In between all the excitement of the carnival, Johnny and Spinelli were shot at in the warehouse, which was just more of a distraction than anything else. First of all, there was more than enough drama to go around without bringing a mob shoot out into it. Secondly, they showed Johnny passing out from his bullet wound and then never came back to it. If they wanted to kick off another mob story, why didn’t they just wait until after the carnival to do it?

I feel like I ranted more than I raved about GH last week, but I really did love the carnival scenes and I’m excited about what the fallout will bring. How about you? Feel free to agree or disagree with me below!

Thank you. I thought I was nuts and had missed something too about Kristina suddenly upset with Claudia looking for her. Why didn't she recognize the voice when Claudia called for her after she came to? And by the way, did you see those shoes Claudia had on? Yep, just the right kind to wear to a carnival----- I couldn't stand up on those things anywhere.
And also THANK YOU for telling who this person was that Max shoved out of the way. They made it seem as tho she and Max had something going on didn't they? Come on Diane!!
But my BIG QUESTION is-----where was Cameron in all this? Why wasn't he there and why wasn't he the one that got hurt? A creepy kid and not needed in the storyline. They want to save money----get rid of him.

I would have liked to have seen more care-free moments with the citizens of PC enjoying themselves. I do have to admit that in the case of the ADA Louise, it was beneficial to have her there. Her character came off so badly in the scenes at the PCPD so it was nice to see her in a relaxed atmosphere. I thought it was very thoughtful of her to see Max and stay in the room with Milo.

The mob shootout plus the carnival was a bit too much. I did expect some kind of gothic element to the story but it was just the fortune teller doing readings. Maybe she should have told Guza less is more. At any rate glad to see the end of the Brianna storyline and the end of the crazed version of Andrea Floyd.

As for Sonny, his priorities have been screwed up for a long time. Remember when Michael was missing, he was with Kate in her hospital room giving her an ugly yellow hat instead of looking for his son. So why should Kristina be any different?

I agree about Claudia. She appeared to be looking hard for Kristina so I don't understand the implication that she just saw her and left her.

Being the redneck that I am, I would like to see Coleman have a s/l. Doesn't have to be main line but I would like to see more of him. JMO.

Parts of the Carnival sequence were just brilliant, e.g. the montage with Moonlight Sonata playing, but parts of it, such as the continuity, were awkwardly handled. The worst gaffes, as Lori has mentioned, were the four days (real time) it took to find that Johnny was at Mercy, and the absence of Diane. They seemed to be cramming too much into too little time. The drama of Johnny's shooting was thrown away. One minute he was shot up and trying to escape, then Thursday - no Johnny, Friday - no Johnny! Saturday and Sunday - no show. It was Monday before he was next seen at Mercy Hospital, and all the time we are to assume that he was bleeding to death.

The other big time gaffe was the threatened kidney transplant. The series is set in a hospital. Don't they have a medical consultant, or couldn't anyone have checked on Google to make sure that they got it right. Dante is admitted to hospital and promptly told that he may need a kidney transplant. Wow, that was quick. Both kidneys were damaged beyond repair? I thought that a transplant would have been a last resort when everything else had failed. Don't they have dialysis? They found out he would not need a transplant after all about the same time as we found Johnny.

I also agree that Andrea's death was not played up as dramatically as it should have been.

Where was Maxie also? If anyone would have been at a Carnival it would have been Maxie and when she heard of Spinelli's shooting wild horses would not have kept her away.

But before I get too picky, I have to congratulate the producers for trying something new and hope that they keep it up.

I'm cynical enough about Sonny (and dislike him enough) to doubt he was so much concerned about Dominic as he was waiting around to sniff under Olivia's skirts. I so hope TPTB drop this idiot idea of trying to push these two together. She made the right decision when she was 15 to stay away from him.

The whole Dominic and kidney thing was out in left field. I get that they needed to set up a situation where Olivia is tempted to spill the beans, but couldn't they come up with something a little more believable than a impending kidney transplant? And why was a brain surgeon delivering the news about that anyway? Maybe GH needs to think about bringing back a character as an internist to keep Patrick and Robin from looking like the only two doctors on staff.

But I shouldn't rant on GH this past week. They tried something different, non mob-centric, and fun. It worked. And it looked terrific even if it did have some minor pacing glitches. The montages were beautifully edited, and the music was fantastic. So nice to see so many of the cast, too.
