GH Actor Wants our Help in Saving a Woman's Life.

Tuesday, April 22 2008

Nazanin Boniadi (ABC)
General Hospital's Nazanin Boniadi (Leyla) emailed Soaps.com bright and early this morning to ask us to help spread the word about a woman in need. "I have joined the campaign to save 32-year old single mother of a girl in her early teens from being executed in Iran. I am auctioning off the dress I wore on the red carpet at the 2007 Daytime Emmys to raise money and awareness for this cause. Any support you can give us through your site, to get the word out, would be much appreciated," she wrote.

The woman, Akram Mahdavi, is one of far too many victims of a legal system in which women are pulled out of school, married young to older men and abused. She is an epileptic and faces death by hanging unless $60,000 in "blood money" is raised and offered to the Iranian court in exchange for her freedom. Nazinin has joined a team of lawyers, journalists and human rights activists in raising the money needed to allow Akram to reclaim her life and raise her daughter.

Any size contributions to the "Save Akram" fund are very much appreciated. Everything you need to know to help can be found here: Click here to help. This link also provides email addresses to the attorney's on Akram's case and links for secure on-line donations, as well as a picture of Nazinin's red dress and the Ebay link if you want to bid on it. (To see what Minae Noji and other soap actors wore, check this out: Soaps.com Daytime Emmy News from 2007.)

Thank you Nazanin, for letting Soaps.com help in this very worthy cause.
