When Jason returns in a black designer suit, Maximum tells him to fetch an espresso, but Milo goes instead. Bernie calls and Max takes the lead, with Jason watching on. Max echoes Bernie's dilemma so that Jason can indicate how to handle it, "Coast guard circling the shipment? Should we bring it in anyway or stay outside of jurisdiction?" Jason nods to the latter and renders Max able to direct Bernie. Diane quickly asks Maximus to come check out Port Charles with her, and he's happy to oblige. Max orders Milo (or 'Mario', according to his father) to 'protect' them, although it's clearly Diane's clothing that needs protection. Jason quickly calls Bernie back and then tells him to use his home phone from now on. Then he tells Max that this charade couldn't have happened at a worse time and that Maximus has three days for his little visit.
Jason returns to his office and finds Max and Milo waiting for him. Max starts rambling about his father who is about to visit from Sicily and says that he needs a big favor from Jason. Diane bursts through the door with some legalities regarding Jason's split from Sonny, and Liz calls to ask Jason to meet her at her studio ASAP. Jason tells Diane that she can bill him for the time she spends trying to figure out what Max needs him to do, and then rushes out the door.
Diane does the equivalent of a victory dance as she chants about being paid to spend time with her guy. Max buckles over in pain and Diane asks Milo what's wrong with him? Max tells them that they have no idea what's about to hit the fan. Milo taunts his big brother about the mess he has made. Max explains that for twenty years they have gone to visit their father in Palermo because he was deported, but now suddenly he wants to come to Port Charles! Diane asks why the man was deported, but the answer is clear when Max clarifies that their father is notorious mobster Maximus Giambetti. Diane's jaw drops to the floor and Max explains that he stayed in the states with his mother, and so did Milo. Diane also learns that they had different mothers and that Maximus has been married 7 times.
A little later, Diane shows up to visit with Kate. She tells Olivia how revolutionary her cousin's layouts are in the fashion world. Kate gives a little smile and then asks if Karpov shot her because Sonny's still in the mob? Diane tries to change the conversation by saying that Sonny's biggest hope is that she recovers fully. Kate asks if Carly was lying when she told Olivia that Sonny was in bed with Karpov. Realizing that she is against a wall, Diane says that Sonny may have changed who he does business with, but the business itself hasn't really changed.
Over at Jason's office, Diane is asking Jason and Max what will be achieved by perpetuating the violence. She says that she doesn't want to pick out a smart outfit to go to Max's funeral just because Sonny wants to even the score. After she's gone, Max tells Jason that he'll do whatever Mr. C asks him to do. Jason says that the facts of Kate's shooting don't add up and he's not going to retaliate. Max asks how he can ignore Sonny's plea for help after all he has done for him?
The guests are stunned. Carly is full of emotion as she thanks Jax for covering her. Diane gives Alexis an earful about how she knew this would happen, and Alexis announces that everyone needs to stay on the premises until the police can talk to them. Claudia tells Ric that no one really retires from the business and the civilians who marry them don't understand that this is part of the deal. Ric offers to take her home, but she says that she has to go somewhere.
Claudia and Carly are both in the lobby of The Metro Court waiting for their designer gown from the boutique. The women practically purr with nasty joy when they realize that Kate and Sonny will have to see both of them on their wedding day. Diane, nearby frantically looking for a clutch purse, takes it all in. After Carly and Claudia disband, Diane calls Alexis to come meet her right away. When she arrives, Diane pounces on her and tells her that Sonny's women, Claudia and Carly, are both planning to ruin Kate's wedding! They vow to keep their eyes open to protect Kate.
Diane comes over and announces that if Jason acts fast they can get a stronghold on the waterfront by snatching up some property. Spinelli objects because Stone Cold is otherwise engaged. He turns to Jason and urges him to focus on his 'other project' instead. Diane informs Jason that he needs to appear in person or quite possibly lose this opportunity forever. After some deliberation, Jason tells Diane that he has other plans. Spinelli breaks out in a celebration dance of some sort and Diane bills Jason for her time anyway.
Diane finds Alexis talking to Jax at The Metro Court. She announces that, as Carly's divorce attorney, she will beat their pants off, but then clarifies that this altercation is about something else entirely. She tells Alexis that they've both ordered the same dress at the boutique and they will NOT go as the Olsen twins.
Alexis has gone over to Diane's place and spits out that the daughter she only recently learned is her daughter, and who already slept with her husband, is now possibly hitting on Jerry. They agree that all men are dogs, especially the ones who they pick. Alexis is worried that Sam is angry at her for giving her up for adoption. Diane is stuck on the subject of cheating men and younger, hotter women. Alexis finally realizes that Diane and Max have broken up, so she opens another bottle of wine.
