EDWARD QUARTERMAINE'S HISTORY

From the beginning Edward Quartermaine has been a manipulative man. In 1978 he moved into the house that Alan brought for his wife, Monica and decided he was lord of the manor. He tested his daughter, Tracy's, loyalty by pretending to have a heart attack after having created a will that would overlook leaving anything to her. When he begged for his heart medications, she refused unless he promised to alter the will. Edward banished her from his life, but not until he admitted to having faked the whole 'heart' thing.

As CEO and namesake of ELQ, his financial life has been up and down. Everything is about money to Edward, and only his beloved Lila controlled his selfish behavior. Eventually, Tracy wormed her way back into her father's good graces, and together they became the dynamic duo of 'mean.'

Edward has sided with everyone against someone at one time or another, even setting his grandsons at odds by providing funds to one to buy something the other wanted. He maintained his snobbish behavior even when it was revealed that he had had an affair and fathered a bi-racial son. Justus, the result of Edward's liaison with Mary-Mae Ward, came to Port Charles and bonded with his father, actually helping Edward to set up a foundation to benefit the community. Of course it was just a front to benefit him in some way. Edward continually tries to run the lives of his loved ones with no regard for their feelings.

Several times, he tried to instrument his grandson, Ned's demise in the business world, and Edward even fought to keep young Michael in the Quartermaine mansion, despite knowing that he was not AJ's child. Edward should have never crossed Carly. She faced him head-on and won.

Georgie and Dillon felt Edward's wrath when he tried to come between them, and Skye was blackmailed by her supposed grandfather on more than one occasion. Edward goes round and round with his son, Alan, on a continuous basis.

Edward has had a hand in shutting down careers and dashing the dreams of a number of people in Port Charles, but his adopted granddaughter Emily has stepped in to fill the shoes of his dear, departed, Lila. Although he tends to soften in Emily's presence, Edward is still a gruff old bird who holds the reins of the Quartermaine Empire with both hands.

Tuesday, September 16 2008: And the Verdict Is...

Down at the court house, the jury has called the judge to report their fellow juror's misconduct. The juror denies working with Mr. Zacchara, but the judge discharges her and brings in a substitute. When the new juror arrives, Edward starts by saying that Port Charles has been run by mobsters for years, starting with Frank Smith. He says that it's time that they take their city back and it can start by putting Johnny Zacchara away. For her turn, Epiphany tells them that you can't be convicted because of who your family is.

The verdict is in and everyone gathers in the court room. Epiphany stands and states that the jury has found Johnny Zacchara not guilty. As Johnny and Claudia hug in relief, and Scott raises demands there's been a mistake, Epiphany and Edward shake hands as if to say, "We've done the right thing."

Monday, September 15 2008: Madam Foreperson.

In the jury room, Epiphany is chosen as the foreperson. The jurors debate the case and the elderly woman, Mrs. Albright, comes out as the strongest in Johnny’s defense saying all Johnny did was protect his sister. The jurors then mill about talking amongst each other while on break. Edward and the juror who flirts with Epiphany discuss the merits of the designated hitter in baseball, but Mrs. Albright tries to sway other jurors to acquit Johnny, which is against the rules and which Epiphany overhears. Epiphany tells Edward and the other juror about Mrs. Albright, as the senior citizen goes into the hallway. She gets on her cell phone, telling whoever is on the other end that she has already turned two jurors and is making progress on two more. Epiphany, Edward and the other juror catch her and Epiphany gets on the phone. She says, “Anthony Zacchara, you are so busted!”
