There are a few people in town who aren't at the wedding. Jax has returned from Australia and is sitting with Carly at The Metro Court. She asks about Lady Jane and he says that she's in denial about losing Jerry and thinks that their marriage will work out in the end. She asks why he's being so nice to her, but he says that this must be a rough time for her.
Carly shows up in Michael's hospital room and finds Sonny sitting with him. "He loves you so much Sonny and it's well deserved because you are a terrific father," she says. Sonny cries and apologizes for the millionth time about what's happened to their son. Carly tells him that there's nothing they can do to change anything so he needs to stop beating himself up over it. She says that her gift to Michael is to forgive him, and now he needs to forgive himself. Sonny cries and says that will take a while. He holds Michael's hand and Carly cradles Sonny in her arms.
Things are Looking Up.
"So when did you get so tall?" Sonny asks Morgan. He takes Morgan in his arms and smiles at Carly. They all sit down together and talk about Michael and all the fun things he taught Morgan over the years, like how to shake the presents early. Before long, Morgan runs upstairs and Carly explains that Christmas is supposed to be about miracles and she hopes they can somehow heal. Sonny asks if this is just for the holidays or will he be welcome back in Morgan's life? Carly hesitates and Sonny asks her if she still blames him for Michael's shooting. Carly answers by saying that Morgan needs both of them and they have to begin somewhere. She tells him that he can see Morgan if he swears to keep him safe. Sonny assures her that is exactly why he's doing what he's doing. Morgan rushes back downstairs with an angel ornament that he made for Michael.
Carly and Morgan rush into The Metro Court and are glad to find Jax before he leaves town. They have presents for him and Morgan points out that they are standing under the mistletoe. Jax gladly takes Carly in his arms and gives her a big kiss.
Bittersweet Holiday Moments.
Jax has brought his gift for Morgan over to Carly's house. He explains that Lady Jane misses Jerry so he's going to spend the holidays with her. Morgan wants her to come here, but Carly says that won't work. Jax lets him open his gift early. When Morgan delights at the new gaming system, Jax promises Carly that she'll enjoy it as much as Morgan does. Carly thanks Jax for staying in Morgan's life and points out that he lost a lot this year. Jax tells her that no matter how much has changed since last Christmas he'll be thinking of her. Carly tears up and Jax tells her to concentrate on the son that she has in order to help deal with the one she lost.
Back at Carly's house, Carly looks through some old ornaments and recalls a year when Sonny came over to hang stockings with Michael and Morgan. Tears stream down her face as she picks up the phone and tells Sonny that she needs to see him.
Carly lets Sonny in and thanks him for coming. He compliments her on her pretty tree and then Morgan comes out and stands before him. "Merry Christmas Dad," the little guy says. Sonny looks over at Carly and then back at his beautiful son with a big smile.
The Jackal Will Not Abandon Stone Cold!
Jason goes to the condo and takes his frustrations out on a heavy bag. Carly arrives and asks what is wrong and offers to help. He tells her about the secret meetings with Elizabeth but says that is over because Liz was targeted by the Russians. He tells her everything and says, "Nobody is safe. Nobody." Carly hugs him. Spinelli arrives a while later, rambling about Maxie and Lulu. Jason interrupts and tells Spinelli he has to find out how the Russians are getting their money into the country. Spinelli gets to work and Jason suggests that Spinelli move out – for his safety! "The Jackal cannot abandon Stone Cole to the forces of evil," he says. Jason says he is worried about Spinelli; neither notices that someone is copying Spinelli's computer files!
There's Another Spencer Family Reunion.
"Why would you settle for a fake imitation when you can have the real thing?" Carly asks Jax as she steps even closer to him in The Metro Court lobby. The conversation started about her dress, but it's clear that she's talking about his fling with Kate. Jax tells her that they are over and she needs to stop trying to seduce him. She asks why he's wearing his ring and adds that she can get past him sleeping with Kate. Jax says he did it because it was irrevocable. And fun, he adds. Carly reminds him that they love each other, but Jax can't keep doing the same thing over and over with her. He takes off his ring and walks away.
Carly has gone back to her room at The Metro Court and wrapped herself in a blanket. She takes out a photo of Michael and talks to it. She tells him that she misses him and that he must've been her good luck charm because everything has fallen apart since he left. She says that only a small part of her heart belongs to Sonny, but Jax wanted her to get rid of that and she couldn't do it. She can't lie about that anymore. "Maybe mommy's finally growing up," she tells the photo.
