After Spinelli and Maxie rush off, Lucky and Nik go to the attic to get the ornaments. Later, Luke recalls the story about a long-ago Christmas in which Laura insisted on putting an angel on top of their tree even though they didn't have enough money for it. Lucky looks everywhere for the angel, but can't find it. When he finally produces a locked box, Lulu tries the key Spinelli gave her and pulls out the Angel. She can't believe her eyes. The phone rings and Luke answers it. It's Laura! They all wish her a Merry Christmas and Lulu puts the angel on the top of their tree.
Jerry Dabbles in a Different Kind of Bomb.
Meanwhile, Lucky pushes into Jason's penthouse and demands to know where Sam is. Jason says he hasn't seen her since the courthouse. Lucky admits that he's ragged after the past couple days and then says that he assumed Sam was here working with him. Lucky tries to leave, but Jason insists on hearing more about Sam's absence. Lucky explains that he and Sam fought the last time they were together because she still wanted to go after the Russian mob. After Lucky leaves, Jason puts Spinelli to work on trying to figure out where Sam could be.
Alexis Impresses Her Daughter.
Lucky shows up at Sam's place with dessert, but she's nowhere to be found. "So much for dinner," he says.
Lucky goes to visit Luke on The Haunted Star and finds him face down on a pile of cards pretending to be drunk. Luke straightens up and gives Lucky a nutshell version of his predicament with Tracy and then digs into the box of cannoli's that Lucky has brought. Lucky sits down and gives his own nutshell version of his problems with Sam. Luke takes it all in and then points out that Sam likes living on the edge. He makes the parallel to his relationship with Laura and says that he can't see Sam living in Lucky's old house with a cop and some step kids. He advises Lucky to be honest with her now about what he wants from life.
The Jackal Will Not Abandon Stone Cold!
Sam tells Lucky that the Russians aren't done yet and insists that she has to keep doing her own investigation. Lucky wants her to stop but she says she has to keep this up. Frustrated, Lucky leaves for the police station to be with Liz. Sam leaves for the grocery store and is almost home when she sees two of the Russians and hides. They go into a building and she breaks into their van! She gets inside and searches the cargo area! The Russians return before Sam can get out of the van so she hides. Sasha receives a call and says it will be harder than they thought to get rid of Jason!
In the hall Elizabeth tells Jason they were foolish to believe their love could protect the kids. He agrees and says he put $5 million in an account and bought her rental house; he says it is all in a trust that looks like it was started by Emily. Elizabeth says she can support her family. Jason ignores her and says he won't ever see Jake again and he needs to do this. She promises to protect the boys and to stay away from him. "I'm sorry I hurt my boys and I hurt you," she cries. Jason says he was just as selfish as she and then leaves. Lucky arrives and Liz tells him what just happened with Jason. She says their relationship is over and blames herself. She says she won't mess up her second chance with the boys. He says she has made the right decision but knows how difficult it is for her. Liz tells him about the trust fund and that worries Lucky. She says he is a good dad and he takes her home.
On The Same Page?
Lucky brings Liz and her boys back to their place. Liz thanks Lucky for being such a wonderful father and asks if they can have some kind of mini celebration as a family. Lucky suggests a trip to the zoo to see Santa. Liz loves the idea. Then she gets a call to come to the courthouse to give a statement.
Sam goes home and soon after, Lucky arrives. He takes her in his arms and says how much he has missed her. Lucky tells her that Jason and Liz are grateful to her and now they can get back to normal. He gives her a kiss, but she pulls back.
There's Another Spencer Family Reunion.
Over at the Spencer house, Lucky and Cam encircle Jake (in Liz's arms) to welcome him home. Lucky takes the boys inside to make popcorn and Liz expresses her gratitude to Jason and Sam. Jason tells her to thank Sam. Liz says that she will be forever indebted to her and then goes inside. Lucky comes out and takes Sam in his arms. Jason is very quiet throughout the entire exchange. Lucky asks if they even considered calling the cops, but Sam says that Jason didn't want Jake in a standoff situation. Lucky tells Sam that he'll call her later and asks Jason to see her home safely.
Finally, Some Good News!
Liz has handed her knife over to Lucky. She says that renting this art studio is selfish and she doesn't have time or money to paint anyway. She says her dream of being with Jason was wrong, too, and admits to painting Jason into a corner of being someone he's not. She tells Lucky that Jason is a criminal who will be killed one day and she doesn't want any part of that. Lucky tells her to stop punishing herself, but Liz says that Jake is going through worse. He tells her that Jason is her drug of choice and she has just hit rock bottom. He urges her to face the choices she has made and rebuild her life one day at a time.
