In the ballroom Nik is asking a tearful Leyla what happened to her necklace. She says that it was her grandmother's and it means a lot to her. Nikolas asks why she is covering for the person who ripped it off of her and why didn't Patrick defend her? He angrily walks away and Emily chases after him.
Patrick has cornered Robin in another room to yell at her for Maxi's behavior (in breaking Leyla's necklace). They end up arguing about their problems and Nik listens outside the door for a few minutes. When Patrick tries to leave the room, Nikolas pounds on him asking "How many women do you plan on leaving in tears tonight?" Patrick gets a few punches in but is no match for a deranged Nikolas. Robin is horrified and begs Nikolas to stop. Finally Nikolas snaps out of it and Em rushes into the room. She explains to Robin and Patrick what's been going on with Nikolas. Nik doesn't apologize to Patrick but numbly says that he has guests to attend to. Patrick tells him he has bigger problems right now.
In the ballroom, Lucky is happy to see Lulu, and then asks if anyone has seen Liz. Nik tells Em that he's going to help Lucky find Liz. He kisses her and the brothers take off. Luke closes the ballroom door behind them and announces that they will leave the doors closed now in hopes that "…the sword-yielding whack job" stays on the outside. A bold of lightening flashes and we see that AZ is in the ballroom with everyone else.
On the terrace, Lucky demands that Liz and Sam tell him what they are fighting about. Liz tells Lucky that Sam is only sleeping with him to get back at Jason. Sam says that Lucky and she were the ones who were cheated on! Emily comes out and asks what's going on and Lucky says that Liz attacked Sam. Surprised at the side he has taken, Emily tells Lucky that he should be grateful that Liz didn't take the boys away from him when she had the chance. Suddenly Nik shows up and asks Em, "Who the hell are you to trash my brother?" He tells her that he is so sick of her protecting the almighty Jason and for some reason she wants Liz to be with him! Emily withdraws and takes Liz with her to clean up. Lucky gratefully thanks Nik for being on his side, but asks why he was so hard on Em? Sam tells Lucky that she wants a word alone with her cousin and then asks Nik if he's okay? "What just happened?" Nik asks her.
Emily has whisked Liz up to her bedroom to repair her gown and fix her hair. Liz is apologizing for her bad behavior at the ball but all Emily can think about is Nikolas. She tells Liz a little about what's going on with him and says that she couldn't bear to lose him. She says that the blackouts are becoming more frequent and they are lasting longer. What's more, he's convinced that he might hurt Spencer so he's not spending any time with him. Tonight he's at Grandma Leslie's house. Nikolas comes in and apologizes to both of them. Liz hugs him and leaves Em and Nik alone. Em admits that she told Liz everything and that she thinks they should tell Lucky, too. Nik says, "First I'd like you to reconsider your promise to marry me." She won't hear of it. He worries that he'll hurt her and she tells him that when a person is hypnotized, they don't do anything that goes against their basic nature. She thinks his blackouts are the same way. Alfred comes in with "news of an alarming nature."
Nik and Em go back to the ballroom so that Nik can make an announcement. Apparently the Harbor Patrol has shut down the harbor because the storm is heading their way. He says that they have plenty of rooms and might as well enjoy their long night together. Moments later, lightening strikes and the power goes out.
In their private room, Nikolas wants a moment alone with Emily before they greet their guests. He breaks down and cries as he tells her that he's afraid that "this thing" will kill him and that only bothers him because he won't be able to wake up with her every morning. He's breathless, but is able to get four more words out, "Will you marry me?" She gleefully tells him that she will be honored to spend a long and happy life together. He pulls a ring box from his tux pocket and tells her that he will love her forever. They kiss and then remember that they have guests waiting.
The guests are all ushered into the ballroom and Nikolas welcomes them all. He makes a lovely speech about the endowment he is making to the hospital in Alan's name and then announces his engagement to Alan's lovely daughter. Liz hugs Em and Nik makes a point of telling her that he's glad she came. Lulu hugs Nik, followed by Lucky and finally Alexis. He asks why Jerry Jax is there and she says it's better that he's with her than alone. Nikolas glares but doesn't say anything.
Nikolas asks Emily for the first dance and they begin a lovely formal waltz with all eyes on them. Lucky walks out on the terrace and finds Liz watching alone. They are both thinking about the same thing - the time they sneaked into the first Bacchanalia in their jeans and sneakers and danced on the terrace. She says that they thought they would feel like that forever and he admits that the memory of that night got him through more than a few bad times. Then he says, "Elizabeth Webber, may I have this dance…for old time sake?" Liz doesn't hesitate, just offers her hand and they dance the same formal waltz that is going on inside. Sam comes out and sees them.
Inside Em and Nik have finished the first dance and the rest of the guests are invited to join in. Jerry and Alexis, Patrick and Leyla, Skye and Ric glide along the floor. Lulu and Logan don’t get that far however. Luke cuts in on Logan and Lulu gladly dances with her father. After the song ends, Nik and Emily tell them that they wish Laura would have seen them dancing together. Luke graciously tells Nik that his mother would be very happy with his engagement.
