From Intern to Surgeon

But Emily is yelling for help locked inside another room with her father. A masked person opens the door and Emily tells him that her father is having a heart attack and she needs a defibrillator. The door gets slammed in her face. Emily rifles through a desk and finds an aspirin to give to Alan. He's trying to calm Emily as he chews it. He tells her that he just needs some rest. They talk about the day that Emily was adopted; both are crying. A goon comes in and tells her that she needs to assist in Robin's surgery. Alan tells her that she's trained for triage; she needs to go to Robin.

Lulu has been pushed into the room with Alan, the door slamming behind her. She tells him that she doesn't know how to help him. He asks how Robin is doing, and Lulu fills him in on the surgery that Patrick is talking Carly through. Alan says that if anyone can do it, Patrick can. Then he asks her to tell him stories to take his mind off of things. "Like, why do you think I killed Rick Weber and framed your mother," Alan says. Lulu asks him if he did. "You first," Alan says. Lulu explains that she's following her mother's last wishes. Then she says that they found Rick Webber's date book and it has two phone numbers written over and over on the last week of his life. One is Monica's cell phone. Alan says she's a good detective and that she's right -- he hated Rick Webber and when Monica started her affair with him again, he did want him dead. (He is choking back the pain as he speaks.) He says that he never had the chance to kill Rick. Rick broke things off with Monica and the next thing he knew, Rick was dead. Alan tells Lulu that he followed Monica to the Scorpio house that night. He saw Laura go up to the attic. He thinks that Laura might be innocent, because for a long time he thought that Monica killed him. Then after Lulu and Dillon starting digging around, they finally talked about it and realized that neither of them did it. He apologizes for any part he has played in Laura's condition and asks for Lulu's forgiveness. He says that his only explanation is that when you love someone as much as he loves Monica, you'd do anything to keep them out of trouble. He tells Lulu that he saw something that night that she should know about. He tells her that he wrote a letter…but then his chest pain gets worse and he can't speak. Lulu tells him to breath and "…do NOT die."

Outside, there doesn't seem to be much of a plan:
Alexis comes to the scene after seeing the situation on the news. Ric allows her to come down to the line with him and tells her that Sam and Nikolas are inside. Patrick is waiting next to Ric, waiting for the phone call so he can begin talking Emily through the surgery. Ric wants Patrick to talk in some kind of code so that they can ascertain how the rest of the hostages are, but Patrick says that he doesn't want to fool around. Mac comes back from the hospital and says that Skye claims to know nothing and Alcazar is recovering from brain surgery. When Alexis hears this, she takes off.

From Bad to Worse.

Just then the phone rings, but Mr. Craig would rather let the hostages play for their freedom rather than negotiate for it on the phone. He suggests a new game called "Musical hostages". He wants them to scramble and find partners and the person left out loses. But, they can't start with an even number, so he has to get rid of somebody. He chooses Elizabeth. Nikolas offers to go instead, but Mr. Craig has made up his mind. The goons take Liz to a door and lock her inside. She discovers that is where they have stashed Alan after knocking him out. Only now, he's awake and having chest pains.

Sam whispers to Lulu that there is a door at the end of the hallway, and Lulu wants to risk everything by going for it. Nikolas forbids her to move another inch. Just then, Mr. Craig sits next to her and asks if she's going somewhere. He tells her that he's going to shoot one of her legs so that she'll hold still. Just as he's about to do it, Carly does what she does best – creates a diversion! She stands up and proclaims that she doesn't even like Robin, why is she getting her contaminated blood all over her. She is able to convince Mr. Craig to let Emily come work on Robin for a while. As Emily makes her way over to Robin, Mr. Craig traces her pretty face with his fingers and calls her "Emily darling." He puts a gun to Nicolas's face at the same time. He offers to take her somewhere less public and Nikolas jumps up. Sonny restrains Nikolas. They put Lulu in charge of Robin because she obviously needs something to do. They make Carly help her. Then Mr. Craig pulls Emily away and asks her what she's willing to do to help poor Doctor Scorpio. He throws her in the room with Alan and Liz. Liz has been trying to comfort Alan and get him to take deep breaths. Emily takes over. She tells him that his shortness of breath has nothing to do with the concussion he got when they whacked him on the head. Mr. Craig tells them to choose one person to go back and join the group and Liz offers to go.

Inside, Emily is freaked out, but trying to remain calm while talking to her dad. He assures her that he's only having a panic attack. He says that he was a doctor before she was even born and he knows what he's talking about. Then, he arrests. In the lobby, Mr. Craig decides to taunt Nikolas a little more. He asks him if Emily looks as good out of her dress as she does in it. Nikolas tells him that if he touches Emily, he'll kill him. Carly and Lulu are still working on Robin. Carly tries a new tactic, she harshly tells Robin to "suck it up and live." She doesn't want everyone to blame her for letting precious Robin to bleed to death. Robin's eyes open and she weakly asks, "What are you doing?"

Mac Gets the Worst News.

The crowd in the Metro Court lobby is growing more frightened by the minute:

Sonny tells Mr. Craig to shoot him if he has to shoot somebody. Instead, Mr. Craig points his gun at Carly and says, "Lady's first." Then he waves his gun around and invites his hostages to feel free to stretch their legs because he loves moving targets. Sonny tries his best to get through to him that Robin needs doctors; she's bleeding badly and is the closest to her; so she's the one trying to stop the bleeding. Mr. Craig points his gun back at Sonny and fires. The bullet just missed Sonny, and since he didn't flinch, Mr. Craig grants permission for Alan, Emily and Liz work on Robin. Lulu steps aside and her hands are covered in blood. Carly explains that the person they shot is HIV positive and wants permission to help her cousin sanitize her hands. Alan demands that Robin be taken to the hospital and one of the goons whack him on the head and knock him out. "I don't have to do anything," Mr. Craig replies.

Nice Teamwork.

Inside the Metro Court, things are getting tense. Mr. Craig starts shooting up the place just to get their attention. He announces that "we have a long night ahead of us. I can't leave without that brief case and it's locked for 12 hours." He tells them that they have to play a little game called "Get to know you." They have to toss a pencil cup around and whoever has it has to say their name, along with an adjective to describe themselves. If they drop it, they will have the job of being the human shield when he leaves tomorrow. Carly catches it first and says she's "Kickass Carly." She tosses it to Max, who is "Menacing Max". After the cup goes to "Screw You LuLu" and "Nightmare Nikolas", it goes to "Baby's breath Elizabeth" and "Intern Emily". "Howlin' Alan, "Sweet Sam" and a guy in a tux calls himself "Ready Eddie". When it comes to one of the employees, he panics and can't think of anything. He thinks of a name just before Mr. Craig shoots him at close range. Finally, the cup lands in Sonny's hands --who delivers a deadly line…."Michael. Corinthos. Junior."

Mr. Craig congratulates everyone for playing the game so nicely. He tells them that they are his guests for the night and they are to behave themselves, or die. Then, he shoots Robin.

And So It Begins.

Monica, Edward, Tracy and Dillon are sitting around their study, grumbling as they wait for Alan to be read for the fundraiser. He finally shows up and they all bicker, as usual. Luke walks into the room and wishes them all a happy new year. Alice gives him a big hug and kiss. Tracy asks for a moment's privacy with her husband. After they all leave the room, she asks Luke who his first stop was, "Your real wife, or your imaginary wife?" He pours a drink. He tells her that he hasn't stopped by Shady Brook yet. He asks if she divorced him in absentia. She tells him that they're still married, but wonders why that is exactly. Why didn't he divorce her and marry Laura legally when he had the chance? "Because as much as I love her, I can't be with her," Luke replies. Before they could go further with their conversation, Lulu comes home.

Alan has arrived, too, and finds Robin. He sits with her and tries to explain Patrick's point-of-view. In fact, he reminds her that Patrick is doing exactly what she did years ago when Stone was dying – she refused to take her HIV test. She'd forgotten! As they're talking, Alan notices that across the lobby Lulu is handing something to Spinalli. It's his PDA! He goes over to ask her why she stole it. Lulu answers a question with another question. "Why did you kill Rick Webber and frame my mother?"
