Alexis assures Nadine that if she just explains the situation the senators will be happy to hear what she has to say. "I tend to talk in circles on a good day," Nadine says as she voices her concerns about her ability to speak. She rushes off to prepare and Alexis asks Nik what's going on between them. He says that Nadine saved him from letting himself die from tumors after Emily died. Alexis asks if he's in love with her, and Nik says that he 'genuinely cares' about her. Alexis points out that it's not fair for him to lead her on, but Nik says that maybe he will fall in love with her someday. Then he admits that he's not sure he can ever love again.

Alexis comes by and Nik asks how she would feel about taking on the US government. They sit down and explain what's going on and Alexis says that companies like Equinox are making billions of dollars while innocent people are getting killed. She warns that this is a matter of national security, but is willing to make a call. Later she says that her friend in D.C. suggested that they set up a senate hearing to blow Equinox out of the water. Nadine says that she owes it to Bruce and all soldiers to try.

She angrily tells Nik that she wishes her old friend Bruce where here to see all of this. Nik asks about him, so Nadine wistfully talks about the guy who stole her heart in high school who went into the Army and died. She explains that if refusing the patent saves even one person's life, then she is obligated to do it. Suddenly Nikolas understands how Nadine was able to be so supportive to him when Emily died.

Separated at Birth?

Nikolas and Nadine went riding early in the morning, but the horse Nadine was riding threw a shoe. She sees that as a bad sign so they stop and go back to the house. They talk about their various family superstitions, but then Nadine admits that she's nervous because she can't get a return call from the licensing company she's trying to deal with regarding Aunt Raylene's patent. Nikolas offers to have his lawyers look into it. After he speaks with them, he reports to Nadine that the farming patent is licensed to a defense contractor so that means the plow could be used for a weapon of some sort.

A representative of the Equinox, Nadine's licensing company, comes out to Wyndemere to meet with Nadine regarding re-signing a new four-year contract for the plow-fitting patent. Nikolas informs the man that he will have the Cassadine lawyers look over the contract and they'll call him. Nadine asks if Equinox uses the plow-fitting machine to make plows, but the man can't answer and uses national security as his answer. Nadine tears up the contract on the spot.

Nik tells her that she helped him with his grief and she can lean on him. He says that his mother always advised them to learn from their mistakes in the past year when making New Year's resolutions. He resolves to be a better father to Spencer, obsess less and laugh more. Then he asks her to spend the night with him and Nadine giggles as she pulls her toothbrush from her purse. Lulu and Nikolas show up at Lucky's house and promptly order pizza for their Christmas Eve dinner. Luke shows up with a Christmas tree and the first thing they all ask is how much he's had to drink. He brushes their skepticism off and comments about how 'unfestive' they are. Just then, Spinelli and Maxie show up to spread some holiday cheer. Spinelli hears some jingle bells and reaches into his magical Santa suit and pulls out a key for Lulu. He promises it will bring her cheer.

After Spinelli and Maxie rush off, Lucky and Nik go to the attic to get the ornaments. Later, Luke recalls the story about a long-ago Christmas in which Laura insisted on putting an angel on top of their tree even though they didn't have enough money for it. Lucky looks everywhere for the angel, but can't find it. When he finally produces a locked box, Lulu tries the key Spinelli gave her and pulls out the Angel. She can't believe her eyes. The phone rings and Luke answers it. It's Laura! They all wish her a Merry Christmas and Lulu puts the angel on the top of their tree.

After they're gone, Nadine gives the envelope to Nik to open for her. Once they unfold the contents, they both break out in grins. It turns out that Aunt Raylene had a secret life as an inventor and held the patent to new and improved farm equipment. Nik tells her that this is worth a lot of money. Next, she drops a bomb by leaving her big brother Vance $2 million and adding that there's a million for Bo, too.
