Valentine's Day in Port Charles.

Jax walks in on Carly and Sonny at Casa Corinthos and accuses his wife of wanting to jump back into her ex's bed. They argue and Sonny jumps in saying Jax screwed his marriage up all on his own. They fight some more and Jax tells Carly he doesn’t care what she does anymore and walks out. Sonny tells Carly he always thought she deserved better than Jax, but Carly needs to see how this plays out because she's worked too hard to throw it all away. Sonny just wants to see her spread her wings again, but she thinks he's enjoying watching Jax lose everything.

Sonny and Olivia meet up at the hospital and she tells him Dante is too mad to talk to her. Sonny was going to go see him, but sits with her instead. He tells her Dante would have a different life right now if she had only told the truth from the beginning.

Damage Control.

Sonny, Carly, and Diane discuss Claudia's murder at his home. He wants to confess to Claudia's murder. Both ladies worry that he won't be acquitted and remind him he threatened Claudia in public. Sonny orders Diane to convince the jury otherwise because he is going to save his son! Diane warns him there is no turning back and asks Carly to coach him on looking soulful and less icy. Carly thinks that he will be found guilty and he'll never survive jail. Sonny does not want Michael to face a trial. Carly orders him to swear that he will flee the country if the trial takes a turn for the worst. He promises he will and they embrace. Jax enters to witness the hug and sarcastically remarks, "You finally lowered yourself and are throwing yourself at Sonny to get back at me."

Family Drama.

At GH, Dante opens his eyes to see Sonny standing above him. He tells him that there's nothing left to say, but Sonny wants to explain how it was that he became a mobster. He pulls up a chair and gives a little background about his parents, Dante's grandparents. He speaks of Mike's gambling and how his mother struggled to raise him alone. He explains how Trevor, and then Ric Lansing came about and then Deke, his abusive stepfather. He tells Dante how he spent hours locked in a closet while Deke beat his mother. He says that the only thing Deke taught him was how to hate. He flash forwards to when he was old enough to leave the house and his mother encouraged him to leave without retaliating against Deke. Mob work with Joe Scully was the first thing he found to do and after Joe had Deke killed, his loyalty was born. Dante takes it all in and says that he can't imagine such a childhood, but comments that prisons are full of people with crappy backgrounds.

Sonny comes home in no mood to work on his defense. Diane jumps down his throat anyway, with Carly on her side. Sonny makes it perfectly clear that he won't do anything to shine the light on Michael. He says that he will plead guilty and that's the end of the discussion.

Too Much Damage.

In the hospital chapel, Sonny talks to Carly about recent events. He knew 'Dominic' had to die for the betrayal, but now he doesn't know if he can live with shooting his own son. He says he has to make it right with Dante, but Carly doesn’t think he'll forgive him so easily for shooting him. Sonny thinks Dante lied about shooting himself because he's protecting him.

Jason meets Sonny at his house and tells him they have a traitor in their midst. Sonny tells him to tie up all loose ends and asks who it is. Jason says, "Dante." Sonny won't allow Dante to be harmed and wants everyone in the organization to know that. Sonny doesn’t think Dante will betray his own father, but Jason reminds him he's a cop who came there to bring him down. Sonny vows to make amends, but Jason urges him not to let Dante destroy him.

More Than Biology.

Sonny thanks Dante for protecting him with the cops in his hospital room. Dante tells him he can shove it, but Sonny hopes they can build on their father/son relationship. Dante says it means nothing to him that he is his father. Sonny doesn’t want to fight with him, but things changed for him when he learned they were related. Dante spits out biology means nothing to him and it makes him sick to know he is connected to a low life like him. He doesn’t think life means anything to Sonny, citing his killing Mr. Pelletti, and says he's not fit to be anyone's father. Sonny recalls the friendship they were developing, but Dante says it was part of his job and reminds him he still pulled the trigger. Lulu comes to Dante's room and orders Sonny out. She tells him he is worse than garbage – he's a murderer. Dante wants Lulu to come near him, but Sonny knows she's just looking out for him. Sonny says she has every right to be upset, but this is between him and Dante. Subdued, Sonny promises not to make things worse than they already are. He just hopes he can make things right, but Lulu orders him out. After Sonny leaves, Lulu lies on the bed with Dante as he tries to fully understand how Sonny could be a part of him. Lulu assures him he isn't the part that she loves. Maxie comes in offering Lulu some new clothes and suggests she take a shower. Lulu doesn’t want to leave, but Dante urges her to let Maxie help her because he can't. Lulu leaves, as Dante wishes he could shower with her, and Maxie stays behind to ask if he was faking his feelings for Lulu as part of his cover. Dante doesn't think he can win with her, as Jason walks in next. Maxie leaves and Jason locks the door. He menacingly looks at Dante, as Dante wonders how exactly he's going to be killed.

Sonny meets Olivia in the chapel and tells her it was wrong to keep his son from him for over twenty years. She's sorry it hurts him, but she thanks God every day she did it because of what he's become. She can live with it, but wonders if he can live with pulling the trigger. Sonny stays behind after Olivia leaves and talks to God about what he's done to his own son and how he lost him before he got a chance to love him. Carly walks in and a teary Sonny says he doesn't want to give up on his son.

Off the Rails.

At the airport, Jason tries to get Sonny to board the plane, but he won't leave his son, who he shot.
