Alexis pays Sonny a visit to tell him that she's cracking down on the mob in town. He tries to charm her, but she tells him that their long-ago lapse in judgment was because she rationalized all of his choices. Once he married Claudia Zacchara she knew that she could no longer do that, she explains. Sonny asks if Kristina likes the gifts he sent and Alexis curtly says that she does and tells him not to change the subject. She adds that he can't see his daughter this Christmas because he's created a climate that is far too dangerous for such things. She tells him, again, to be careful because the next time he screws up she has to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.
Sonny grumbles as Milo drags the Christmas tree in and Claudia talks about how she intends to decorate it. "By the time Christmas comes, that tree will make you feel better," Claudia tells Sonny.
Same Time Last Year?
Sonny has cornered Claudia and asked how they can make their marriage real. Claudia says that if he's referring to sex, she doesn't want to do it and then realize that he was only using her. Sonny admits that he hasn't automatically grown feelings for her in just a couple days, but he doesn't hate her anymore. What's more, he wants to break down the walls between them. Claudia is happy to hear it, but says that she needs time to trust him. "If I wanted to be treated like a joke and a tramp I could've stayed at home with my father," she says. He wants her to feel like an equal and she tells him that she didn't think what they had could be long term.
Later, Jason comes over and Claudia let him in. She tells him that she's glad they didn't marry because being with Sonny might turn out to be the best thing she ever did. Then she tells him that Sonny suspended all activity while Jake was in the custody of his enemies. She warns him, however, that Sonny's going to have to ramp things up now. Sonny shows up and Jason thanks him for holding off until Jake was returned. Then he leaves abruptly. Claudia thinks it's odd, but Sonny says that Jason said what he came to say.
Jax shows up on The Haunted Star and Luke gives him a warm welcome. He admits that it's Jax's bottomless wallet that he welcomes, but pours him a drink anyway. He asks about his wicked niece and Jax informs him that his marriage to Carly is over. Just then Olivia shows up in search of a card game. Jax throws in and Luke starts to shuffle. As the threesome start to play, Sonny walks in and clears the room so he can talk to Luke. Jax is happy to take the opportunity to dodge the gunfire and escorts Olivia home. Sonny tells Luke that a lot has changed while he was gone and proceeds to fill him in on his marriage to Claudia. Next he reminds Luke that John Zacchara was his original financial sponsor but now they can be partners again. Luke looks pleased as he and Sonny shake on it. Sonny tells his old friend about Kate's shooting, Karpov's attempt to drown him and the burning down of Kelly's. Sonny says that teaming with the Zacchara's gives him the power he needs to retaliate. He assures Luke that the Zaccharas won't pose him any problems and Luke is glad to hear it. He explains his situation about Laura's recovery and his so-called divorce from Tracy. Sonny is surprised to hear that Luke didn't go to France with Laura, but Luke says that he has to live in the present. As Sonny walks out, he passes Tracy and notices that Luke is suddenly drop-dead drunk. Sonny smiles and walks away as Luke tells his wife that he's on his last leg.
Alexis Impresses Her Daughter.
Over at Sonny's house, Claudia allows herself to enjoy the kiss for a moment, but then backs away. She questions his motives and Sonny asks why she's over analyzing things. She says that marriage has made her introspective, that's all. She surmises that he needs the Zacharas and wants to solidify his place in the family. Or, he's getting ready to move against Jason? Sonny says that Jason is his oldest friend. Claudia wants to understand what happened between them, so Sonny openly discusses how it happened that he signed his parental rights away to Carly after Michael was shot and sold the business to Jason in the process. He expresses his pain over Jason supporting Carly instead of him during that time. Claudia points out that the Zaccharas are all he has left and that's why he wants it to work out.
Anthony is announced and as soon as he enters the room, he tells Claudia to leave. Sonny says that this is her home and then assures Anthony that he has a good strategy ready to put into motion. He says that while Jason is distracted with the Russians, he plans on moving in on the territory because Jason doesn't have the resources to fight two enemies. After Anthony leaves, Claudia thanks Sonny for keeping her in the room while they talk business. Sonny says that he's not proud of the way he treated her when they first met and they need to get past that. He says that they're in this marriage together and need to go with the flow. "Maybe it'll turn out okay," Sonny tells her.
The Jackal Will Not Abandon Stone Cold!
Claudia tells Sonny that she knows their marriage is a business deal and that they don't have a romantic future. She asks what her role is; Sonny says her role is to be on his side. He leaves to see Mike. Ric arrives a while later and asks Claudia if she has won Sonny's trust and approval yet. Claudia says she doesn't want or need Sonny to trust or approve of her. She reminds him that the marriage wasn't her idea but she is making the best of it – because one day she will have his power! Ric says Sonny will never love her. He suggests that she avoid Sonny but she says she doesn't want to do that. She says she can't trust him just because they are good in bed; Ric says she should trust him because they are good together. Claudia doubts him and says he just wants what Sonny has. He turns to go but she stops him and says they can be good together as soon as she gets something from Sonny!
Sonny arrives at the hospital as Kate is visiting Mike; she gets up to go and they immediately start arguing about Sonny's marriage – again! Sonny tells Mike that he only married Claudia to find out who shot Kate but Kate isn't interested in his reasons any longer. Mike tries to logically figure out who in the Zacchara family would have shot Kate but can't figure it out. Kate says that is because the Zacchara's didn't shoot her and Sonny married Claudia to get back to the mob wars. Sonny says if she was over him she wouldn't be so mad; she says she slept with Jax! "That's not right," Sonny says. She says their relationship is over and walks away. Mike tells Sonny he can fix this; Sonny says he is fixing things – by taking over the Zacchara operation and finding out who shot Kate. Mike asks what happens when this ends. Sonny says this isn't going to end because no one is going to want Anthony back at the helm when he is done! Mike is worried about Claudia; Sonny says he has Claudia figured out and is just playing her to learn the Zacchara secrets. Mike says none of this will change how Kate feels; Sonny says he has to know the truth.
Back at home, Sonny asks Claudia how her visit with Ric went; she counters by asking why he is watching her. She points out that they have to be on the same side or things will be too difficult. Sonny kisses her!
