Sonny shows up at the Zacchara mansion and tells Anthony that he's ready to run his organization.
The World According to Maximus.
Jason is over at Sonny's house arguing about how Sonny handled Karov. Sonny accuses him of sitting on his hands, but Jason says that the business is running smoothly since he took over. Sonny tells him that if he doesn't fight for his territory, he's going to blow everything that he built from the ground up. He tells Jason that he taught him everything he knows, but now he's on his own and everything will come crumbling down around him.
Sonny goes to see Kate. She begs him to promise her that he won't go back to the mob. She says that she can ride out whatever comes with him as long as he stays free of the business. He asks if he's supposed to forget that she almost died? She says that if he loves her like he says he does, he won't make her give up on him. He says that he loves her deeply, but even if he loses her, he has to do what's right.
Later, Sonny returns home and finds Maximus waiting for him. He tells Sonny to pour him a drink so they can talk. Then he implores Sonny not to react with emotion and wait until he has all the facts. Sonny respectfully thanks him for his advice, and then asks why he cares so much? Maximus explains that he doesn't want his boys' butts blown off while defending him. He says that he knew Max wasn't the boss about two minutes after getting to town and asks Sonny to take care of his sons.
Giambettis Versus the Russians.
Sonny has Karpov by gunpoint down on the docks. Karpov swears that he didn't have Sonny's bride shot, but Sonny shouts that women and children are off limits! Sasha and her goon appear and point their guns at Sonny. Just then, Max, Milo and Maximus arrive, guns drawn. Max takes the lead and tells Sonny to come with them. Sonny resists, but eventually steps down. After they leave together, Karpov yells at Sasha, but she tells him to leave town until things settle down. Instead, he calls Sam and tells her to meet him at pier 52 in one hour.
Maximus and Max escort Sonny back to his place. Maximus chastises Sonny for going after Karpov unprotected, and then asks if he's new to the business? Max quickly explains that Sonny is just emotional and he knows how 'we' operate in Port Charles. Sonny suddenly gets it and plays along. He explains that Karpov shot his bride at the altar. Maximus tells Max to 'whack him'! He expresses his condolences to Sonny and then meets Milo back in the car. Max promises to do whatever Sonny wants him to do as soon as his father leaves town. Sonny says that he'll take care of it.
Jason goes to Sonny's house and asks if he has a gun because Karpov is likely coming after him now. Sonny shows his weapon. Jason asks what he was thinking going out alone? "I didn't have a choice, you wouldn't help me," Sonny answers.
Sonny Won't Listen to Anyone.
Sonny is at the D.A.'s office with Alexis. Things between them are getting heated and he says that he's the only person who can make the Karpov situation go away. She urges him to leave Kate's shooting up to the law to avenge, but he doesn't see it that way. He reminds her that she went to Jerry when Anthony went after Kristina instead of letting the cops deal with it. Alexis hates it when he's right. She changes tact and tells him that Kate loves him and will forgive him for her shooting, but not if he goes back into the mob. Sonny repeats that she shouldn't waste the police's time on going after Karpov. Alexis makes one more impassioned plea, but his response is simply to tell their daughter that he loves her.
Carly shows up at Sonny's house and tells him not to avenge his phony fiancée. She wants him to let Jason handle it, but Sonny announces that his so-called friend Jason turned him down! He will handle this himself. Carly asks what she's supposed to tell Morgan if he gets killed? He won't let her dangle his son in front of him now, after taking him away from him before! He tells her to tell Morgan that his father will take care of everything.
Back at the waterfront Karpov is carrying on a phone conversation in Russian, but is interrupted by a gunshot. He ducks and Sonny grins from behind his cover. He steps out and holds the gun right up to Karpov's temple, announcing that he wants to see his face when he pulls the trigger.
