Comment by Admin: Welcome back! We don't allow "Fan only" threads (see http://www.soaps.com...6285/ at this point because we want everyone to be able to communicate no matter which side of the fence they're on. So, a better title for this thread would've been something like "Jolu discussion"...just FYI. Hi Everyone, Haven't posted in a while; had computer problems (needed to buy a brand new PC, unfortunately) and health problems this past week..when it rains, it pours! In any case, I have not been seemingly able to find my "niche" on any other thread...no one's fault at all. So, in giving it some thought and missing sharing with the pals I have made here, I decided to give doing a new thread a try. The writers are certainly to blame and responsible for what's happening on the show and the dissention many of us feel with Jolu and people related to their storyline, be it Spinelli, Matt, or Ethan. So, I wanted to create a thread for all Jolu fans (or maybe used to be fans or folks that just are not sure where they stand) to come post and not be worried about offending anyone who is still on the Jolu bus, off the bus or on the fence somewhere. I wanted spoilers to be fine as well so people won't have to worry about voicing where they think or perhaps have heard storylines may be going. If you're off the Jolu bus, it's no doubt the result of being continually disillusioned what they've done to Jolu and the characters. In thinking about it, I am so upset about what TPTB didn't do with Jolu (all in the name of playing musical chairs with couples, it would appear, which was totally foolish on their part because it upset fan bases and ruined characters also in the process.) Jolu started out so well...a chance meeting between two people at the end of the rope with their lives. Johnny was running from himself, his father and the life he was born into; a life he was not sure he wanted for himself (and still isn't sure about that) and Lulu was running from all the humiliation which dominated her life at the time; finding out her parents didn't have the storybook romance she always thought they had and also being a repeated victim of Maxie Jones' determination to make it her quest in life to make Lulu's life eternally miserable...something Maxie's still doing after all this time. Jolu never bonded through sheer lust (unlike JoMax...that's the only thing I see with that pairing...lust and mutual self destruction. Not exactly the stuff from which Supercouples are born.) They bonded through dispondency over their lives and realized their commonalities with their mob ties (an element which was never adequately explored.) They eventually became something "forbidden" by everyone around them, but eventally decided to preserve against that which was forbidden by their families and the mob, even if it meant death. That IS the stuff from which Supercouples are born. Had the couple been allowed to maintain their "Us against whatever" foundation, we would not be where we are today. I have often thought that writer strikes and tug of wars between directions Frons and Guza wanted to take with characters were ultimately responsible for the loss of that original focus. Whatever the case, I think regardless of where we are, we might all agree that the past and the original foundation of what was Jolu has been destroyed...for good? Well, that we don't know! Lots of couples have angst, but it seems that is all this poor couple ever had! It gets painful for even the most faithful fan to watch that repeatedly. So much was NEVER explored in this couple... Their mob ties and how they were the same and different and how this created the "baggage" Jolu have as young adults. The death of Johnny's mom and how that shaped his life. Johnny's parentage (the possibilities of his being a Lansing could have made for an interesting twist). Johnny's conflict with either accepting his fate as a mobster's son destined to take over someday versus his wanting a life free of the mob. Lulu's role in Johnny's life...I would have much preferred her as his equal (as we see with a couple like Sam and Jason) and not as some perfect angel which brought out Johnny's savior complex and had to be placed on a pedestal or as a fragile little girl who couldn't handle his mob life (which is utter BS, considering Lulu's past) or as the long suffering girlfriend who has dimmished herself in the process of being with Johnny, which is what Lulu's pretty much become. That's been painful to watch as well. All of that (just my thought), began with last summer with Lulu going "crazy" and has just snowballed ever since. I am not sure if it's the product of Guza listening to fans who complained that Lulu needed to be brought down a few pegs (Ok, it's fine to bring a character down a bit, but not destroy them!) or it was the product of Guza overdoing a storyline...as he's sort of doing with Robin and the PPD thing now...things did not really need to get this far out of hand to the point where watching the storyline becomes a drag...and how many fans started complaining about Lulu screaming and seeing Logan every five seconds after about the first week or two of that? In the process of all this, the writers have completely ruined characters... Lulu's a shell of her former self. I wonder (though I think Luke's being a jerk lately after how he treated Lucky and then Lulu in favor of Ethan) if this week was not a turning point for Lulu and her dad was trying to make a point with how he treated the situation of Ethan lifting the Crimson money (Ethan's sticky fingers is getting a bit boring now too...we get it; the guy's a player.) and not just giving Lulu the money back. Luke seemed intent that Lulu's not reacting as she should or did in the past...and she's not. So, maybe as much as Luke's being a jerk, maybe he's also trying to help Lulu too...in his twisted dad way. Johnny's just turned into a first class moron! It is very hard to root for this guy. He treats Lulu like crap, he lies, cheats, is a hypocrite, doesn't see people for what or who they are, cannot decide if he wants to be a mobster or a grease monkey, protects a sister who doesn't deserve his efforts, and is a coward who'd rather accept his "fate" than fight for what he claims he wants. Who'd route for that kind of character, the longer he keeps up the behavior? In many ways, what Sonny said about himself recently applies also to Johnny. He said, "I am living the life I deserve, with the wife I deserve." Johnny's doing the same thing...settling for less with someone like Maxie. With those two it's just self fulfiling prophecy meets self fulfiling prophecy...total destructiveness. Maxie...well, I wonder now what the heck she was supposed to have "learned" from her BJ dream? If anything, she's gotten worse as a character ever since. She's in full throttle biotch mode. A "friend" would not walk around all holier than thou, feeding her friend's insecurities, making Lulu think SHE'S the one with the problem. Just like Johnny, Maxie's just become utterly deplorable. Is this so the viewers won't mind when Jolu and Spixie end? Makes you wonder and think back to what we were told about Jolu fans perhaps beginning to wish Jolu were not together after a while...well, that's certainly happened! Whether you are off or on the Jolu bus or somewhere in between, the way things are now, one would have to admit that there HAS to be a break with Jolu and even Spixie now. To keep this up much longer is just cruel. From what I read so far about how it's going to be handled, I am not sure I like what I see. I wanted Lulu's dignity to remain in tact. I wanted HER to walk away from the mess, leaving Johnny in the dust to regret all he's done. I wanted JoMax to get comeuppance BADLY! I did not want Lulu to look needy, hysterical or foolish. So far, with Lulu pulling in these gigolo replacements for Johnny, what I wanted isn't happening. I also wanted Maxie out of the picture a long time ago...she's doing all the things Lulu should have been doing with him. Johnny's confided in Maxie, shared his dreams with her, let her in on some of the mob stuff with the Ric incident. Shouldn't he be doing that with his girlfriend? Nah...too busy lying, keeping things, yelling, screaming, berrating her, and making a total idiot out of her in the process. As much as you want a couple, if Lulu were your daughter, sister or best friend, you have to ask yourself if you'd want her around Johnny. I don't think I would. What in the Helena should Maxie want to get even with Lulu for once the crap hits the fan? Hasn't she hurt Lulu enough by jamming her tongue down Johnny's throat...twice? Why does Lulu have to be her "whipping girl" all the time...this sucks! The best term I can use to describe it. If Maxie's only comeuppance is Spin taking a walk, frankly, it's not enough for me because I don't think she's ever really loved Spin as he's loved her. Losing her job...well, yeah, then we'd be hitting the biotch where she lives! Johnny...I want him to suffer big time. I can see how he'll most likely turn out...if there is JoMax sex, it will be grief sex over losing Spin and Lulu, like we are supposed to feel sorry for them. Why should we? Is this not what they wanted? To drive Spin and Lulu away? Congratulations...you keep doing that repeatedly and it works! They just do not need to make them look wrong and foolish in the process. Sure, the big coward will go back to the mob (Johnny in the fight with Ric the other day was about as believable as Spin taking on someone like Sonny and living to tell about it...I especially liked that nasty growl when Johnny finally got pulled off of Ric...big, scary mob dude...right.) he may blow a few things up and throw a few hissy fits. He might even take the blame for Claws and her role in Michael's shooting. I read that a DVD will be altered to blame someone else...how about it being Johnny? He seems to be ready to walk through fire and water for Claudia. He used to do that for Lulu, didn't he? When did Lulu stop being worth the effort? Would he think Claws was worth the effort if he knew all about her past with Trevor and her little bet with Maxie? Gee...I wonder if Maxie will go to Claws and ask for her money? Nah...burried storyine, I guess. Where all of this ends up is any of our guesses. I think all the crap the writers have been doing, plus all those rewrites we've been hearing about make the task of knowing what to expect even more tough. Regardless of where you are with your Jolu appreciation...I do think this is going to be a tough week or two ahead. The breaks (Spixie/Jolu) are necessary now, as I said...it's just too cruel too keep this up much longer. Maxie and Johnny don't seem capable of any positive change now. Johnny's just as selfishly self destructive as ever and Maxie's the same biotch she always was...even worse. So I do wonder if remorse or regret ever figures in for them? I would think it plays little of a role for Maxie...she's just a shallow person. Her feelings never run deep. Jolu, well that's another story. These two once had a real relationship...willing to perhaps die for each other. That's pretty deep. Only it was so long ago, no one remembers...especially Johnny. For those of you who are future Jolu fans who want to see them have a future (and this is far more than a speed bump in their relationship, since all of this crap has been allowed to continue for so long...it's not like we're talking about one single minor infraction in a relationship here) then some sense of remorse, guilt and the desire to do something to fix things would need to be present in Johnny's character. Lulu would also have to be mighty forgiving! If there's no Jolu future, I just cannot see JoMax established as anything more than lust. I'm also having a problem with Luthan...the guy irritates me the more he is on screen. (Looks aren't everything, but can someone please give him a bath, shave and a haircut? He just is too sleezy for my liking.) If he would serve as a voice of reason in how Lulu deals with Johnny, then I could accept that...whether he is her sibling or not; and we still do not know because of those rewrites! Oh well...I wrote a novel here. Lots of venting! Feel free to jump in!
