I think that “shame on you” is a little harsh. Just flipping through the pages I mean every quiz or survey has a sexiest guy or girl contest, on the the other pages I found “Who would you have an affair with” “Who would you like to be stranded on a desert island with.” “Where’s Alexis’s make-up?” “Lindsey’s put on a few” “Brody and his smoking bod” “Anyone else think Todd is so sexy?” “Followed by “Who thinks Todd is not sexy at all.” “Jessica is prettier as Tess.” “Wow, Amanda in a bikini” “Leyla’s Bangs” and those are just on the ABC threads. All reference the attractiveness of the stars and no one had a cow over those. No one did because whether you like it or not being as attractive as possible is a pre-requisite for soaps stardom. And maintaining that level of attractiveness is as much a part of their job as remembering their lines. And I am sure that people like Claudia, Jason, Sam and Lucky who clearly spend every free moment pumping iron appreciate that their hard work and effort is being appreciated. But I digress, my point is unless you skipped the sexiest man question on all 800 survey’s that cruise around on these pages then you really have no room to judge and certainly no room to call shame down on fellow posters. Furthermore just by watching soap operas you are contributing to the propagation of the beauty myth in our culture. And don’t try to tell me you don’t have a favorite guy/girl who you watch a lil more just because they are pretty. We all do it. That’s the only reason I don’t fast forward through all of Logan’s scenes. Finally, clearly the board isn’t that offensive or it would have been closed yesterday. If you have a problem with it then why not advocate for the beauty of someone untraditional, make other people see the beauty that you see. So chill-ax, if you don’t like the topic don’t post on the board. I mean that in the nicest possible way but seriously shaming all contributors was a lil harsh and uncalled for.

HAHAHAHAHA! Sorry, your post ran together so much it was hard to make it all out, so I'll just comment on the portion I bolded for you...

I don't watch Soaps or any other show just to see a certain "pretty" actor or actress. I watch for the STORY.

You may think my calling "shame" on him as being harsh - you're prerogative - I still maintain that commenting on REAL people's looks is harsh - however well-intended someone may be. There is always the potential for what happened in here - (the comments turning negative) and THAT is precisely why it's against the board rules to have these kinds of threads/comments. The fact that he showed no consideration for the feelings of others - who may very well come in here and read about themselves - is something worthy of calling a "shame on you."

The first line soap dweeb included on the post was “This is totally shallow…” Some people are prettier than others that’s a fact of life. If you want to go into the unrealistic standards of beauty our society spreads and creates then that’s another thread. But it’s a well known fact that babies respond positively to people with symmetrical faces, ergo beauty is a fact and pretending like you don’t see it doesn’t make you better. I watch soap operas the stories aren’t that good…

You left out THIS part: """...since it's based soley on who looks better than who..."""

That's an open invitation for negativity and don't let's pretend otherwise. Nobody is blind to "the pretty" of certain people on certain shows - that is SOOO not the point - don't you see that? Yes, sure there are lots of pretty, pretty people on lots of shows - that's all well and good, BUT... that doesn't mean we have to get into who is NOT as pretty. In other words, if someone thinks so and so is pretty? FINE! Say so. Just do NOT go into who said person thinks is LESS so - or who they think is ugly or has bad teeth or so on and so forth. Get it? That's not cool. Not even a little bit.

Case in point, remember the actor who subbed for Jax a couple of months back? He reads the boards and he was SHOCKED AND HURT by all the negative comments about his personal appearance. Not cool.

The question was who has the best face and body... it didnt ask for any input on who has the worst, or less good, the question only asked for the best ofthe best and thats what 99% of everyone replied with, who was able to reply before everyone was shamed. Thats all I am saying.

You still seem to be missing the point... The author of the thread INVITED negative comments by making the thread to begin with AND with his comment about "who looks better than who..." YOU have been around the board long enough to know better, too. Threads like this ALWAYS devolve into the negative - as you said, it's human nature. Doesn't mean we have to indulge in it. Do you get that?

What I dont get is why its your job to police or moralize the board. We do have a paid moderator, she didnt pull the post so clearly she didnt deem it as offensive. It wasnt intended with ill will, cant we just leave it alone.

Not my job per se - but isn't it up to all of us to maintain a higher standard? As for Julie, she has an awful heavy workload and depends on us regular posters to "help out" whenever we see something off or downright out of bounds. No, she didn't pull the post, but that's usually her last resort - she DID do a lot of heavy editing/deleting though. Doesn't that tell you something?
You wanna drop it, we'll drop it.

Okay, I can see that it's time to shut this baby down! Far too much arguing going on and nothing positive is coming from it. I knew this kind of thread had the potential to go south quickly, but I thought editing it would be enough. While commenting positively on actor's appearances is allowed, it usually degenerates into bashing as well, which isn't allowed.
