I didn't say he was going to rape her, I said "some kind of violent act".

Some of the rebuttals here astound me. This is how I read what some of you are saying.
"He intended to rape her, but all he ended up doing was scaring the heck out of her, dominating her physically and calling her offensive names. So what's the big deal."
"Woman have been raped on daytime television for decades. What's the big deal?"
"But after a woman's attacked and brutalized and shot or stabbed or kidnapped ... man is she tough. So, what's the big deal?"

My feeling, when I started this discussion, and still today, is that A. woman can be portrayed as strong and independent without having to first go through a trauma. and B. GH has used this as a way to move a storyline forward quite a bit lately. Not in chronological order, but here are some instances:
Emily killed
Carly attempted kill
Robin shot
Leyla shot
Carly's nanny killed
Georgie killed
Maxie attempted kill by Diego, twice
Maxie held at knife point by Devlin
Claudia stabbed and thrown into the water
Kate shot
Elizabeth kidnapped by Diego
Ric's temporary girlfriend had abusive guy Randy
Johnny's mother shot - shown in flashback, brought up ad nauseum by Claudia
Carly ending up in the water after the dock explosion

And each time, the woman was pretty much minding her own business. When the men encounter violence it's usually to save someone, or to be whacked because they are a bad guy.
Though, I do think Ric's stabbing by AZ was a blindside, so I'll give a pass on that one and of course the innocent shooting of a child.

Anyway, this is my final say on this. I really appreciate the posters who have agreed, whether in whole or part, with my grievance. It's easy to be numbed to something you witness often. I felt it was too much.

I said before that if there were one more rape on General Hospital I was going to stop watching for good. Now I see from upcoming episodes that both Maxie and Lulu will be attacked in some way. And not just by some random man, but by one Lulu used to trust, by a character who has returned from serving for the US Army. Really poor choices all the way around by GH's head writer.

I am sorry but I do not understand your comment about the serving in the military...so are you saying that men/women in the military cannot comment sexual assault? If so you are way off base her...it happens in the military on a daily basis. Plus look at the one guy in the military who killed that girl b/c she was prego with his child...then he ran to Mexico.

You make it sound like you are not only upset with the s/l but because it is with a vet...
I get why the military veteran being the bad guy bothers so many - it's because of the shoddy treatment veterans are given in storylines. Need a crazed drug addict? Make him a Gulf War vet! Need a murderer? Make him a vet! Rapist? Make it a vet! Like the cops in PC, military veterans are treated with disdain and written to be less than the true heroes MOST of them really are.
I understand what you are saying Shep, I too hate how television has portrayed vets, it is disgusting. I work with vets and I am saddened by how they are treated..If this s/l comes to be true I hope the writers spin it and make it positive for vets in our nation.

Now I know what a lot of you are thinking...how can a rape be positive...but maybe they can spin it that he had PTSD or an effect to a drug he was given while in the military, b/c they are given a lot of drugs that have some very horrible effects.

I was just trying to get a point across that just b/c he is a vet does not mean the s/l should not be done...it happens in our society everyday...and a lot more than we no with vets involved...is it right, no, but it is a fact.
I hate to see rapes but it happen everyday and vet's do committ it also. But, I not should it is a rape scene, if I wrong, we wll see. I sorry to say we as women get attack all the time, it is sad but it happen.

What I don't like is making the women look bad in our eyes, like Robin she has every right to look into Patrick and give him a hard time. He treated her like shiit when she was honest about wanting a baby. It push her to look like a nut looking for a man to have a baby with. So now it Patrick time to plead.

Not necessarily b/c I thot he was too. Didn't he rip her blouse, or was that in some preview?

Is your argument that that makes it all right? And apparently it will remain a standard storyline. Maybe I expect too much. Maybe I hoped women would join me in saying, "enough." But that's not the case.
I, for one, would like to think I at least did what little is in my power ... I stopped watching.
Mr. Guza is also a producer. He has plenty of power, and plenty of fans rising to his defense. If he ever reads these boards I think he'll bear the insults, and there are a multitude of them on several different threads, quite well.
I've stopped watching. It's done.

Mr. Guza is only Head Writer, he is not a producer, that is Jill Farren Phelps. He has no final say on the s/l's. I am not at all rising to his defense, just saying he doesn't hold the kind of power u think he does.

This is the way soap operas r written and always have been. These s/l's r what keep ppl watching and I see no problem w/them. I wouldnt' have watched for 45 yrs if I did. Maybe soaps aren't yr thing. Just a thot.

I don't think his intent was to just "push her around" or scare her. He accomplished that. After knocking her unconscience (or close to it) he goes over to her and neals down over her, it's not until then does he look up and see LuLu. Heres the clip it starts at 3:12 for anyone who missed it.

Quote poicat: Hey out there , GH is a work of fiction...Like reading a novel...The writers are just that...We have the option of not reading a novel we don't care for or turning off our TV's if we don't like what we watch...America is great like that...Somedays we love our soaps...Somedays we hate them..Thats alright ..We still have the freedom to make choices... Happy Independence day...

Finally a post that makes sense...One persons rose is another persons thorn.

Watch your opening credits more closely. She is Executive Producer, he is listed as a Producer. I don't know what your background is for writing for TV shows, but I do know quite a bit on this subject.

I still had Thursday's eppy on my DVR so I watched the opening credits again VERY CLOSELY and it says...... Written By Bob Guza, Jr. and Jill Farren Phelps, Executive Producer. NOWHERE did I see anything whatsoever about Mr. Guza being a Producer, nowhere. I suggest YOU watch the credits more closely b4 telling someone else to do so.

People complain all the time. If you don't like a show then switch channels or turn off the TV. You can't please people all the time...but do you have to start a war over this SRMILLS. At times I FF a scene, but do not cause a big problem like you have. Goes something like this.........It is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. SRMILLS just switch channels and good bye.

This "so called" advise (to not watch or switch the channel) actually applies to everyone who made the DECISION to come into this thread and make a comment (whatever that comment may be). Anyone of us could have not replied to this thread, however it's our right to do so, as long as we are respectful :eye roll:. People need to take their own advice... Weve all had a rant, complaint, or concern with the direction of the show at one point or another.

I'm not talking about the show, I'm talking about your sudden use of "text speak"... Things like shortening words...

U for you
R for are
PPL for people
YR for you're

And so on and so forth. You never used to do that before. Come on back to the light!!!!
