Quote genhospchat: First, this should have "Spoiler" in the title.

Second, to make an ASSUMPTION like that about a person (Guza) is pretty bold and not very nice! I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want someone ASSUMING your psychie and why YOU do the things YOU do. Guza is NOT the only writer on the show and is NOT the last word on the show either, so there ARE others that make decisions on how storylines go besides JUST him.

Third, these types of things happen on soaps and we can't change that. Do we like it..no BUT it is a part of the soap world. Look at Luke and Laura, look at Marty and Todd on OLTL, these were MAJOR storylines that brought in viewers as well as awareness AND pinnacled the characters themselves.

I'm sorry to hear that you're leaving the show because of it though. It's a good show and perhaps you could just not watch certain scenes?

Quote srmills: Maybe you should widen the scope of your world. Making the comment, "maybe he wasn't breastfed" is a pretty common thing to say about men who have issues with women.
Just as "maybe her dad didn't say I love you enough" is one to say about women who have issues with men.
(For the record, my father has always told me he loves me.)
And I have a right to say whatever I want about whomever I want, as they do about me.
Read a few of the other posts about "Guza" and you will see that many diehard fans do feel he has the last word on storylines.
If he can't stand the criticism he shouldn't be a writer.
Or maybe he should just hire you to fight his battles.

I don't know who you're talking to here but talking about a person's psychie that YOU DON'T KNOW has NOTHING to do with the show and is quite a sad assumption to make. You're not happy with the writing, ok, but I think you need to leave the psycho babble out of it.

I'm completely lost with your post and accusations about Guza hating women.

You don't site any instances of victimization of women. You discuss Logan attacking Lulu and Maxie which hasn't played out yet so we don't know the story yet. However, last time Logan grabbed Lulu, she put him in a coma with a wrench. To me it wasn't about victimizing Lulu as showing a woman protecting herself. Also, did Lulu ever really trust Logan? Lulu tried to but I don't think she ever completely trusted him. Lulu also tried to love Logan but she didn't or she wouldn't have kept going back to Johnny. The only victimization of Lulu with Logan was from the fans of the show who thought she was an idiot to give Logan a chance after the bet.

Logan has been a jerk since day one. Coop even said that Logan was a jerk when they served together. However, the writers did give him an out on that one. Remember, he is on that drug that causes aggression and produces a sweet smell. That came out during the TMK.

The TMK s/l wasn't about victimizing women, it was about revenge and getting even with Sonny and Jason for the most part. Even the TMK ending was Liz causing the car to crash.

The only recent rape on the show was Irina raping Jax.

The core audience of the show is women. Women empathize more with other women than men. How many of us really got upset about Jax's rape? How many of us would have gotten upset if a woman had been raped?

You can't write good drama but never have anything bad happen to a woman. Recently though, even with the bad, the women are not being victims. Victims sit there and take it. These woman fight.

Excellent post!! And yes, Logan has been portrayed as dirty from the very beginning. He's a rotten weasel and I've never liked him. He came on dirty and he'll go out dirty. It has absolutely nothing to do w/him being a vet but everything to do w/his character. It is very fitting IMO!! Who can blame LuLu for never trusting him after that bet either? I sure wouldn't if some jerk ever did that to me!! She tried after Scott blackmailed her but I am sure that made her like Logan even less.

1. I never mentioned the Text message killer. I consider that a side step caused by the writer's strike.
2. Pysche is spelled p s y c h e. I consider that to be a person's spirit, as the word was originally intended. Sorry my use of a colloquialism like "not being breastfed" was so bothersome to so many. I guess it's more obscure than I had thought.
3. Emily and Elizabeth have also been raped. It seems to me, and god knows this is only my opinion as a viewer of the show for a measly 30 years, that violence against a woman has become a recent "go-to" idea for story propelling.
4. The head writer is just that, THE HEAD, he absolutely has the final word on any idea that comes from anybody on the team. I've been on a team of writers, I am sure on this point, but if you wish to differ in your opinion, go right ahead.
5. There can be other action, including action that shows women as strong, without it coming from them being physically attacked.
6. Women are the majority of viewers, that's why I thought maybe others felt the same way. All I said was it bothered me. And that I will no longer watch.
7. I have voiced my grievance to the Producers as well. Twice.
8. All the threads, discussing everything from Robin stopping her whining to when will Jason and Elizabeth get together are criticisms of the writing. I just chose to be direct. Writers are used to being criticized.
9. I didn't see it as a spoiler because the previews have shown on the network several times, clearly explaining what is coming up.
10. It was on that upcoming storyline that I based my decision to stop watching. That's just me. You are free to do whatever you want.

Rape has been a standard storytelling device in all soaps for as long as I can remember. Heavens, even Erica Kane was raped. Eden on Santa Barbara. Julia on Santa Barbara. My memory's not all that but also Jen on Days Of Our Lives, Carly, Days Of Our Lives, Valene on Knot's Landing...it's certainly not a recent plot device.

And somehow I doubt the head writer has more power than the executive producer. So Jill Farren Phelps (sp) has the final say on storylines and for all any of us know, this storyline was her idead.

I don't see any of these women as victims, since they do fight and try to protect themselves.

And I think that personal attack on Guza was uncalled for. Maybe the rules here need to be updated to include writer bashing. It's one thing to complain about writing, quite another to attack someone personally.

Is your argument that that makes it all right? And apparently it will remain a standard storyline. Maybe I expect too much. Maybe I hoped women would join me in saying, "enough." But that's not the case.
I, for one, would like to think I at least did what little is in my power ... I stopped watching.
Mr. Guza is also a producer. He has plenty of power, and plenty of fans rising to his defense. If he ever reads these boards I think he'll bear the insults, and there are a multitude of them on several different threads, quite well.
I've stopped watching. It's done.

I think we're jumping to conclusions here. There is no rape storyline coming up on GH. There isn't, so if that's the only reason to stop watching there's no need. The violence on GH tends to be 50/50 toward men and women. I agree there tends to be a uneven balance on the way women are portrayed on this show but it doesn't have to do with rape or other violent acts. It's more about attitude IMO.

Quote NoSoup4you:
Quote srmills: I don't know why this Robert Guza person hates women so much, but he should go get professional help about it and stop taking it out on fictional characters that are watched by young women across America.
I said before that if there were one more rape on General Hospital I was going to stop watching for good. Now I see from upcoming episodes that both Maxie and Lulu will be attacked in some way. And not just by some random man, but by one Lulu used to trust, by a character who has returned from serving for the US Army. Really poor choices all the way around by GH's head writer.
If you stop and really look at the women on this show, and the men they love, it is pretty sick and twisted. And obviously coming from one sick and twisted mind.
Perhaps Mr. Guza is a mob wannabe, maybe his mother didn't breast feed him, who knows. What bothers me is that young girls, like I was once myself, watch this show everyday, and this is not what I would want them to see. Spineless women being dragged by the hair by neo-cavemen, professing either love or hate for each other, but doing both with a near compulsive obsession for abuse.
So, my afternoons are free now. I will be happier for it, I'm sure.

It is very frustrating that Guza is planing to have another abuse to women storyline...... especially since WE JUST HAD ONE with the TMK storyline......

What makes me most disappointed about all this, is they are taking what I believe to be a GREAT character and turning him into a irremediable creep!

Which makes me sad, cuz I LOVE ***....... however, despite the bastardification of this character...... I am looking forward to watching these intense and scary scenes!

Edit by Julie to remove Spoiler.

Thanks for this post. I was thinking the same thing with regards to the storyline becoming "must see TV".

SRMILLS - Keep posting your opinion, your entitled to it just as everyone else is. Ive been on this board a while but dont post very often and I can tell you that people have a tendancy to be fickle. One moment they're on your back when they dont agree, and hve forgotten there own rude, judgemental, excessive, passive agressive behaviors on this board...but we wont go there since we're playing nice. Thanks for standing up for women in your own way!!!

I never said it was all right. I was pointing out the fallacy of saying it's a new or recent plot twist.

Rape is a crime that stay's with the person for the rest of their life and Gh tend's to use it over and over again, freely Luke did it to Laura that should have been the end of that dirty disgusting crime, he could found some other way, to end this charcther, too much abuse against woman on this show, trust me I do turn the TV off I didn't watch Thursday show, and if Monday it's the same thing I refuse, to watch woman being rape for rating's.

i completely Agree. if the writers victimized women. carly wouldn't be carly. sam wouldn't be a gun slinging chick. and lulu would have never dashed logan over the head when she thought he was trying to attack her..i mean people are jumping to the wrong conclusions. monday hasn't even gotten here yet. and no previews or spoilers to make a valid assumptions of rape..do you actually think logan will go through with raping maxie in front of lulu watching? then again. that's why logan is getting killed off in the first place..with that being said. in my 14 years of watching GH. never have i veiwed women on this show as victims..IMO they kick some serious ass.

Well it looked like Logan was about to rape Maxie today, so I guess that invalid assumption was correct...
