General Hospital - MESSAGE BOARDS

Hi Guys,

Yes, I'm new to the board, in fact, I just signed on today. First off, I want to start by saying that I've been skimming through the boards for a while and I'd like to say--hopefully, without sounding like a kiss up -- that you all are variations of funny and inspired. Second off, I've got a pretty serious question: Has anyone noticed that some of the most infuriating characters, namely Claudia (at times) and Sonny, are bigots?

With Sonny , and I know many others have mentioned this off and on, on other posts, it's Spinelli. I mean come on-- "Freaky Boy"? What the heck is that Spinelli is one the sweetest, smartest, and might I add, respectful people on the show. Since when does his intellectual way of speech signify him being a freak, in any way of the word?

(By the way, I am a gigantic Spinelli fan, in case none of y'all could tell )

With Claudia , as I'm sure most of you remember, it's Robin. And while I'm aware that there are several people who don't particularly like her right now... I sincerely doubt that's because she's HIV Positive. I take her medical status just as seriously and respectfully as I take Michael's comatose state. It doesn't define her, its just a part of her. Now right now, I like Claudia when she's around Spinelli and putting Lulu in her place, but I can't say her bigoted remarks were the first time I've wanted her to disappear. Nonetheless, I feel that there are some circumstances in which kindness is most definitely not just the best, but the only policy.

Don't get me wrong, I realize I probably picked some of the two most generally despised characters on the entire soap but I need to rant, if only for my own piece of mind.

Since this is General Hospital and a majority of us, the viewers, at one point or another experience this same surge of fury a time or two...please speak your mind and run with this.

I agree with the whole "freak boy" thing, its not a nice them to call him since it doesn't even describe Spinelli, but I think he just weirds out Sonny a bit.




With the whole Claudia thing, I understand HIV doesn't make Robin who she is but the scene were Claudia was in the hospital and wouldn't let Robin treat her BECAUSE she's HIV positive, I understand that. And don't get me wrong I don't think its right to discriminate someone for any reason. But I'm not sure that I would let someone who has HIV treat me if I had an open wound. I no her count is low and everything but I wouldn't take that risk. So I understand Claudia's hesitation towards Robin, but I don't think she should be so blunt and mean about it, but that is who Claudia is.

Hey Eternal, Welcome we love newbies. We are a very spirited group, and for the most part we all speak our minds, but with tact and kindness.

I loved your post, because when Claudia started with her remarks to and about Robin, and when she called Jason a cripple, well, my blood just boiled, maybe in part, because I have a disability and it is hard for me to not take exception to that kind of stupidity. I know it was the writers who put that crap in her mouth, but still it was wrong and cruel and unnecessary, and it made her much more unlikeable. I agree that Robin's HIV status is a small part of who she is, but it by no means should define her. People who don't live in those circumstances should indeed keep their mouths shut. There is alot to be said for the old saying, If you don't have anything nice to say, just SHUT UP!!! And, yes, with the exception of when she put Lulu in her place, I generally dislike her with a passion.

And then there is Sonny, I never thougt of him as a bigot, but rather, a class A a$$. He is just stupid and he is mean and ugly toward others. I think the way he treats Spin is dispicable to say the least.

Well, there is my rant on that subject, I rant a lot. Welcome to the board, look forward to posting with you.

Welcome and hope to see you often. Yes, we have all ranted about these two. I certainly wish they would change Sonny as I like the actor so much.

Red has never had much allure for me, b/c of the way she stormed on the show.

Now, seems they are trying to change her. good luck. I do like the way she stands up to Jason about Spinelli.

I'm relatively new here myself so believe me when I say that this is the BEST group of posters I've ever had the pleasure of ranting with! So go ahead and let it all out, all we ask is that you do it with respect and sensitivity. If you have any questions feel free to ask for help. I cringe when people are nasty about things that people can't change. Must be a Pavlovian response to Jr High School.

Sonny is an Ass and while I can't agree with what Claudia said - good for GH for shining alight on an unspoken fear alot of viewers would have. It gave them the chance to try to educate the audience.
IMHO.

Welcome. I will look forward to posting with you. Regarding Sonny and the "freaky boy" comment to Spin. He has never liked Spinelli. He's acting like a jealous friend who feels that he has been replaced by Spin. He knows that Jason trusts Spin and he can't deal, so he in a sense is acting out against it.

Claudia is no different than a lot of people who are not educated when it comes to HIV. It's fear.

Hey Eternal Liason, Welcome.. I have been on this or someother board for the past 7 years...I'm not on often but I enjoy all the post whether I agree with them or not... It is great to know there are so many of us who have the same interest and addictions.. I love Sarah Brown and will take her in any thing, I don't always love Claudia..Love Spinelli and don't like Sonny most of the time... I do think it would be a kick in the pants if Sonny turns out to be Spins dear old Dad.. He could hug him kiss him and love him...Noooooo probably not...
